Could lightening from the storm cause an oil fire? Now that would be amazing to see. We need to plug the hole asap and I doubt an oil fire at sea would stop the drilling for any great length of time.

normaly each flash is enough(iron on iron), to get a gas(Ch4/C3H8/or any other explosive gas), mixted with Oxygen, burned...but the Explosive Gas must have reached a minimum concentration in the Air to be explosive, for Methan its i think from 5%Vol up to 20%vol in the Air its explosive, Propan and any other ex-gas has different values, BUT

when there is thunderstorm, which normaly is before and after the center of storm, u have enough air-turbulences that this ex-Values are never reached!!
