@frackem 12 - sata ports(more than any x79 mobo), dual lan, new creative 3d quad core sound chip if you add that sound card to any this biostar mobo you at the same price, 8 ram slots, perfect pcie spacing for triple sli or crossfire and still being about to use the pic 1x slot for sound/lan card. so yes its more than biostar but less then asus, so considering it carries more features than asus's flag ship board for cheaper for me = best bang.

Again, nice specs I agree, but I still can't call it best bang. A $350 mobo vs $220 mobo, With the extra $100+ savings I can use towards better components, VGA, memory, or even faster SSD's. In the end, picking the right parts for the best performance without wasting money. That's a best bang. But if your rich and don't care where your money goes, you can call it best bang. I can't compete against the rich folks. I'm just the average joe looking for best bang

Hey, i defy logic my current mobo only supports 2.1 speakers, but i have it running in 5.1 set up! xD but yeah 8.1 is a tad overkill as i don't think may people hve 7.1 as it's too much room for just a PC. I may wait till 8GB DDR4 RAM is out till i do a CPU and mobo rebuild, i tend to wait for stuff like that. Sometimes you get caught in the i'll wait till this etc thogh haha

@krisakias You´ve already got X58 and as I would think, you will have an i7-9XX processor :D If you got a good CPU Cooler, start overclocking your CPU and it will be fine for atleast another 2 years :) Cause the current processors i7-2600k is not even faster than a good overclocked 920! :) So there is no real reason to spend more money. Better buy PCIe USB 3 card if you need usb3. Wait for the new gen of CPUs or it wouldn´t be a big deal in performance :)

I can't imagine that the production of USB3 ports costs more than USB2.

Let's assume that it is more expensive: It would make sense to build older ports on the mainboards to lower the price.

BUT: Why are there USB2/SATA2 ports even on the highest end motherboards like the SR-2 (for 400€ and more)? I don't think that anybody would care about 5 bucks more for USB3 and SATA3.

@3nimac the molex connector gives some extra power to the graphics cards if your running lots of them, the second 8-pin connector provides the CPU socket area with more power for "better" overclocking.

Why is there two 8 pin power connectors on the mobo? My mobo has one 8 pin power connector for my processor, and even then you only have to use 4 pins for the cpu. Makes no sense to me.

@footballelmaestro123 it will run it but hardly well. The GT 555 has double the shader processors (cuda cores). gt 545 = 144 cores, gt 555 = 288 cores. I would spend a little more and get the gt 555 imo.

Most gamers when they buy the headphones either they come with 7.1 surround or they just buy a sound card like the creative fatality series or the asus xonar that make a standard stereo headset turn into 7.1 on demand...thats what gamers prefer doing rather than spend on a 7.1 speaker system. peace out

Hey Elric, I don't know if you are aware but the sata ports on that board (and all x79 boards) are not all SATA 3.0, the x79 chipset has the same native support as the z68 chipset so on this board the 4 white SATA ports are SATA 2.0, the 2back-facing red ports are SATA 3.0 running on the x79 chip and the upward facing red port is a SATA 3.0 running on a Marvell chip that supports 2xSATA3.0, the other marvell SATA3.0 is on the rear I/O

Actually the 4 color white ports are SATA 3.0 and the red color ports are 2.0. Biostar has added a ASMEDIA SATA 3.0 controller to add the additional two white ports

@rawrsexrawr To get a decent computer at a decent price you need to learn to build it yourself. It's not hard. There are videos all around youtube that will explain the basics to you. You need to understand what chipsets go with what lga # (processor). Also your biggest factor in game performance is a video card. At the moment, price/performance the gtx 560ti is quite nice. I'd also advice getting atleast a 750w psu from corsair or cooler master. Take the time to learn the trade.

That's actually pretty damn nice for a biostar board. I love how all the SATA ports are the latest generation and how most of the USB ports are USB 3.0. More motherboard manufacturers need to do this. There's no point in keeping the old stuff around when the new stuff is backwards compatible.
