Ahh me buddy Bubba on the bass, i played with him fer a few weekends, and i knew Cubby, Brownsville rules and i will do the songs that they did, they kicked ass! TCB
Anybody out there remember Sherwood Forest in Davidson,Mi.,SuperSaturdays & WildWensdays? Lottsa MIchigan bands cut their teeth there in the late 60s & early 70s.They had aindoor stage & a outdoor stage. The Nuge,Seger and a lotta other bands rock da joint back then.Lets hear some memories if ya can drege em up from those foooooogy days!
Yeah, I used to stand in the alley there, try to get beers, listened to the bands when I was supposed to be in the movies...Alan owned that place, I think...owns the Skullbone music park now, the store in Cades too.....good guy...worked with him years ago....where are you at?
I saw the Original Brownsville station at the Whisky A GO GO in 1972. They were the warm up act for Ted Nugent and the AMboy Dukes. It was a real small crowd and they were all in a bad mood. I'll never forget Cub looking down from the stage at this pathetic crowd and said, "C'mon people, you clapped for Johnny Rivers, you can clap for us". That cracked me up. Nugent was so irritated all he did was hold one of those obnoxious feedback notes for about 15 minutes. We all left.
Cub was one of the best performers/showmen I ever witnessed, no matter what size the crowd, he always played like it was "Don Kirschners Rock Concert".
A great noisy, garagey band that new what rock and roll was all about. Kings of the Party was another one of those tunes that jumped right off the turntable at you. Take the fun out of rock n' roll and you ain't got diddly squat!
Yeah! Go Cub go! Saw him this same era at a club on Panama City Beach Florida. Hung with him a bit after the show & he was as cool as you can imagine.
Thanks for posting this. Scotty and Red ended up here in Cincinnati...where they formed Medicine Hat and eventually Second Sister, where I had the honor to share the stage with both of them. Sadly we lost Red in 2002, 2 weeks shy of his 40th birthday. My local arts organization, The Rivertown Music Club, now awards $500 Recording Grants in loving memory of Red, to local artists to help offset the expense of recording original music. It's great to watch him play again, we miss him!
