  • TAMA for sure!!!

  • I love my Artwood, same size as in the video. However the Gretsch sat in the mix much more nicely than any of the others in this vid: basing a buying decision on this vid alone would be very wrong. That said I'd still love to have all of these drums, especially the Gretsch for its overall warmth and blending ability.

  • musashi for me

  • The Musashi sounded the best to me, almost sounded like a brass snare. I'm guessing as it will have sharp bearing edges and that Oak is one seriously hard tree.

  • 1 Musashi - Very dark sound, fat and wet

2 Steve Jordan - Bright, but not too bright, great wood sounding

3 Gretsch - Very fat due to it's depth,

4 Tama Artwood - Sounds good, but the least wanted of them imo.

  • Steve Jordan first, next Tama.

  • 1. Steve Jordan

    2. Gretsch

    3. Tama

    4. Yamaha Oak

    My opinion

  • Steve Jordan snare by far

  • Yamaha Musashi Oak Snare is better

  • I think the Yamaha Steve Jordan snare is the best.

  • Yep Tama ftw

  • "Dyke assed hoops"?

  • @craycpanda lmao

  • yamaha steve jordan series!

  • gretsch for me....i bet its the cheapest too.

  • @rix29

  • I thought the Yamaha Steve jordan snare was the worst.

  • TAMA

  • Gretsch snares always sound strained and choked to me. I like them all....

  • Tama 4 ever !! :)

  • TAMA Wins lol

  • it all sounds the same online ugg

  • tama wins!

  • gretsch has a good vintage sound

  • two Yamahas sounds best. the oak is probably more versatile

  • I choose Yamaha, that one is oak snare. I hate maple and don't trust TAMA anymore :). Thanks for vid!

  • tama hands down!

  • my pick would be the musashi

  • I quite like the Gretsch

  • its hard because one of these drums tuned to you liking and the way you usually tune could very much change you opinion........

  • gretsch all the way

  • For this song the Musashi, but the Tama wins due to the 7 ply all maple so there are alot more fun ways to tune up the head and get killer sounds. It has and excellent stock head.

  • Im getting a custom 14x8 soon :)))

  • i use a pearl mapel free floating snare

  • tama war lord the beast and the dw sanres

  • love all of them actually... Realised a should get a wooden snare

  • I have the Tama Artwood 14x8 limited edition snare. It's one of the best, fattest snares I've ever heard.

  • @tpuntch FUCK I wish I had that snare. I have the 14 x 5.5 Artwood but the 14 x 8 would be a perfect size.

  • MUSASHI!

  • they all sound the same.

  • @callofthegiraffe FAIL... Either your speaker sucks or you have problem hearing things.

  • Musashi!

  • That Steve Jordan snare is the tits

  • I think it's pronounced tawh-ma

  • Actually the Yamaha Musashi sounds awesome if it's tuned medium-tight. But i choose the Steve Jordan for this one.

  • 1:49 - 2:49 Braniac musixx

  • Yamaha Musashi 10+

  • I think they are tuned a little to high

  • The first Yamaha has way too much ring, the Gretsch is ok but not my favorite, the Tama is the best of those in my opinion followed closely by the Steve Jordan. But I don't really care for any of them myself. Although I am spoiled with my Tama G Maple and Mike Portnoy Melody Master Steel snares.

  • steve jordan and Tama are really close

  • My favourite is the Yamaha Musashi, although it sounds very similar to the Tama...

  • Tama

  • yamaha musashi

  • gretsch for me but i like more pearl morgan rose :D

  • @GearGuruz how much tension you guys put on the heads?

  • Musashi

  • Tama

  • Musashi was the best for me

  • Tama. jordan, musashi, the other crap.

  • i cant stop laughing the bass playing is soo fucking wicked.. i cant pay attention to the snares..

  • yea i dig the steve jordan. go yamaha

  • Ok i have have been looking for a snare for over 2 months now (no i do not have the money to buy one but when i do ill diffidently get a new one.) Right now i have a pearl forum snare along with my pearl forum set (I HATE THIS SET). It is good for beginners but I'am on my way to intermediate. would recommend? I really want a snare that doesn't have that annoying snare buzz. And it sounds great for rock/metal/hardcore. I do not so much of a high pitched snare tho. I dont really like anyofthese.

  • @DrummingMisner If you don't like the ring you are gonna have to learn to love moon gel or rings. All snares ring like that. I have a Tama G Maple snare. That's a $600+ snare drum that is one of the most critically acclaimed snares ever made and it has ring to it. My best friend plays on a Pearl Reference snare. That's a $750 snare. Still rings. However wood snares do ring less than metal snares, and your tuning will also change it as well. As far as the kit goes, what is your price range?

  • The Jordan is badass, with the Musashi as a close second.

  • It's the Musashi, then the Catalina Club, then the Steve Jordan, then the Tama for me.

  • Tama

  • Chuck Norris' Snare Drum Wins!!!

  • #1 Gretsch #2 Yam :D

  • Steve Jordan for funk, Musashi for R&B, Tama for rock, Gretsch for EVERYTHING!

  • i think that my snair wins :P

  • The Gretsch sounds very well rounded.

Yamaha states on their website the Musashi is a seven ply shell.

    Great review. Thanks

  • GRETSCH ALL THE WAY.

  • The Tama gets my vote

  • stevo.

  • How about you compare it whith areal Gretsch snare??????!!!!

This is a cheap Gretsch snare! you cant compared it with other top series!!!

  • Yamaha Musashi, nice pop

  • hmmm....to me the gretsch sounds best

  • dam, i came on hear firstly lookin at new cymbals to buy, already bought a new snare and yet ive watched 10x more snare vids

  • Yamaha

  • tama wins hands down!

  • TAMA WINS!

  • @thisishyimhot HELL NO STEVE JORDAN SNARE

  • definately steve jordan snare!!

  • Hard to say, they all sound fantastic.

  • shoulda got a gretsch usa instead, but for the price deffinatly get the gretsch, its like a quarter of the price of all the rest of those snares!

  • Tama Artwood

  • the musashi snare is a babe

  • man it went from best from best to worst, to much res in the last three

  • Tama, Gretch, Musashi, Steve Jordan...i would buy the gretch because all of these snare drums have the same versatility but Gretch is the cheapest...now its $120 on the market...its all in the tuning...slap a powestroke 3 on it and it has a pure tone

  • The Artwood makes my loins ache.

  • Why didnt you get a real USA Gretsch drum for this Comparison?? All the other snares are top serie snares, only the gretsch is cheap?! Why not a "real" Gretsch usa shell?

  • i like the artwood it has very nice decay, and it has a tight loud, dry pop to it.I like that plus its a tama snare im a tama fan to the heart thats what i have

  • #1 Steve Jordan

    #2 Gretsch

    #3 Yamaha Oak

I'm a huge Tama fan. But didn't like the sound of the Tama at all. Wouldn't even consider it from this test. For MY pocketbook for the sound...I'd go with the Gretsch. Seriously considering buying one.

  • Tama FTW! :))

  • the tama is absolutely the best

  • 1. gretsch

    2. tama

    3. jordan

    4. poop

    5.kitchen pot

    6. yamaha

  • the first one was best, had a lovely pop, and the steve jordan one.

  • Tama artwood

  • i dont like all the lugs on the yams but they sound more livlier than the others.

  • Yamaha Musashi Oak

  • gretsch

  • The Gretsch is Nice, I like the real deep sound in a snare. It just pops just right, but the Tama, is just perfect.

  • I like the Tama one and the Steve Jordan one. Although the Tama one sounds a little better IMO.

  • Yamaha musashi oak snare and tama.....

    I cant decide

  • TAMA FTW!

  • Really liked the first Yamaha

  • have you noticed how they just mirror him when he switches side of the screen hhah

    i like the last yamaha

  • Yamaha sound like s**t here..

  • Tama And Gretsch are better than yamaha....yes or not?

  • at 2:27 my video froze in the middle of "cast" and reloaded, then it sounded like he said "ass tubes"

  • Tama for sure they are the best brand for drums :D

  • yamahaa!!!!!! it has the popy sound,,,that the other don't have!!!

  • YAMAHA!!!

  • Yamaha!!

  • I'd like Joey Jordison Signature Snare!

  • they saved the best 4 last

  • The 1st one has me sold

  • It's a tie for me between the Gretsch and the Steve Jordan signature

  • my ddrum dominion maple 13x6.5 snare has all those beat

  • Gretsch has die cast hoops. They are all amazing but the Tama does not hit it for me.

  • @ 2:12---218 he switchs what side his ear ring is on ,,,lol

  • Comparing snare drums....what n00bs

  • @DancesWithNarwhals ...how?

  • @triforce10155 Its impossible to say one is better than the other.

  • yamaha is most honorable

  • Well, I'm buying the Gretsch Catalina Club Rock kit soon, and that includes the Gretsch snare.. But if I am going for another snare, it'll be the Yamaha Musashi snare! No doubt!

  • blastbeat + tama artwood = horny!

  • Ohh ive just realized that the Tama snare has a evans reverse dot head on it..no wonder it sounds the best. Anyway its still a great snare drum. But they should all have the same head to get a true comparison. I reckon the oak custom with the reverse dot head would probably trounce all of them!!!

  • I'm a Yamaha nut. Infact i play a Oak custom kit in "blue ridge oak" colour. But honestly..in my un-biased honest opinion, i think the Tama snare wins this comparo hands down. What a great sounding snare indeed!

  • The Gretsch is the only one that sounds different.

  • Go Gretsch, TAMA is fine, screw Yamaha c:

  • YAMAHA for ever

  • @elingenieroluciano sounds like throwing a garbage can down a stair well.

  • Tama wins No question

  • Definately the TAMA imo.

  • defenetly tama

  • gretsch sounds better than the yamaha musashi, tama artwood sounds kinda normal to me, like nothing wow, just for doing the job, however I think the steve jordan without the ring would be the best sounding of all the 4

if it was my pick i'd be between the tama and the steve jordan snare

  • Can anyone please recommend a snare drum around the £300 mark that is worth the money and gives a great sound?! Maybe a 6.5 inch one?!

  • @rduffy338 I'd recommend trying to get an ocdp on your local equivalent of guitar center or on any specialized drum store, i got mine on sale because a kid ordered it and then didn't have the money to pay for it or something like that, it was a hundred dollars less than the original price so I spent like 380 or 420 bucks on it, I can't remember, it's a 10 ply all maple shell, 10 lugs, white gloss finish and sounds awesome. Look for montecarlomty on youtube, and check their videos

  • @rduffy338 I got an ocdp on sale at my local guitar center 10 ply maple shell with 10 lugs 7/8" offset with remo coated emperor on top and an ambassador for the resonant head, I use an aquarian hi-energy batter head. The snare is 14x6" if you want to hear the sound look for montecarlomty on youtube and check the videos, I recommend the one called aqui estoy. By the way it's my band and the snare was around 450 dollars, hope you like the sound and that I helped you with your decision.

  • @rduffy338 Ludwig black magic

  • you can really hear that 7" difference

  • steve jordan wins!

  • Steve jordan or tama but probably steve jordan, although they're all fantastic sounding snare drums!

  • Yamaha Jordan ,Musashi, tama and Gretsch .

  • i like the yamaha the best

  • the gretsch

  • tama by a mile

  • I like the snare jks The audience won't be able to tell the difference in all honesty, just buy one you enjoy beating on.

  • i voted for pork pie XD

  • I like the Tama. Nice crack and warmth. All depends on the tuning too.

  • I have the Tama and it's a versatile and easy tune drum. I wanted the SJ signature drum but it was a lot more expensive, better but not worth the extra outlay for a working drummer.

  • I like the Steve jordan

  • Steve Jordan > Tama > Gretsch > Musashi

  • I like both Yamahas, the Tama is OK, and the Gretsch only looks good

  • tama

  • Yamaha Steve Jordan. The others sound terrible. I probably wouldn't buy any of these, though.

  • I'm all about Tama but in this demo the Steve Jordan sounded pretty good to me...just depends what mood I'm in and what sound I'm wanting to hear I guess

  • Yamaha STEVE JORDAN

  • Grestch all the way man.

  • Yamaha STEVE JORDAN Gretsch CATILINA CLUB

  • Hardly any difference but if I had to pick one it would be the Steve Jordan signature snare.

I certainly wouldn't buy a snare drum based on this kind of shootout. It took me 6 months of playing different brands and sizes before I finally decided to move from my old yamaha vintage to a Yamaha 14" x 6.5" maple custom.

  • Haha, "head to head" lol

  • tama

  • the gretsch speaks to my groin

  • im saying,

first place: yamaha musashi oak snare (13x6/5)

second place: tama artwood custom maple snare (13x6/5

third place: yamaha steve jordan snare (13x6/5)

fourth place: gretsch catalina club snare (13x7)

by the way am buying the musashi oak snare tommorow !!! ::D:D

  • goin 2 buy musashi now

  • musashi take it

  • TAMA

  • OAK all the way! -PK

  • tama

  • UNKLEMISHA I AGREE WITH YOU...YOU CAN ONLY KNOW WHAT YOU LIKE WHEN YOU ACTUALLY PLAY IT. PLAY IT MEANING WITH A BAND UP ON THE STAGE. I HAVE A TAMA SUPER MAPLE 14 X 6.5 SUNBURST WITH EVANS G1 COATED SNARE HEAD. THAT'S ALL I NEED.

  • i really don't get the point of this sort of video..// i mean HOW can anyone hear the subtle overtonal difference between the snares of the same grade recorded in mp4 or whatever and uploaded to youtube, with its sound transmitting ability, and people mostly listening to it it in an i-pod type headphones..? really.. there you have the result: just listen to it alternately with your eyes closed, i'm pretty sure you won't tell what exact drum you are hearing..)
