my understanding is they have schools for various sports like boarding schools and when not being taught science, math, etc it's all baton, all the time. Not that there's anything wrong with that...it certainly shows in their performances!

i heard they like, study the physics of it. some of them turn their hands a certain way to make it more aerodynamic while doing illusions, that's why they do them so fast
