Look, communism, unfortunately, leads to most of society being essentially impoverished. You need a group of people to run the country. They may have the same salaries as a plumber or a doctor, but they may take extra. The major problem is that when you are running a communist country's treasury, there is a lot more that you can take to make your life easier. All of the communist leaders in Russia had special schools and their own gated communities. This is not like a stolen piece of cheese.

Stalin "paid" Kamenev and Zinoviev for their services later, as was his custom. His bastardization of Marxism and Leninism with his cheap "Socialism in one country" pseudo-theory among others did not pass the test of reality as is evident in the disgregation of the USSR.
