Absolutely phenominal. What a difference in appearance, from 1991 to 2011. She was and still is drop-dead gorgeous. Just look at the face of Neil Sedaka; it says "I want You, Now!"
Her voice is better now. Just a great performer. She should spend more time in North America. Toronto would be good.
@cd72, one must be pretty flexible if only to agree Karen Carpenter had a singing voice, but not under any circumstances was she anything to write home about.
@dickdomino: Exactly. I think Neal's piano playing suffers because he is experiencing "Sissel Captivation Syndrome". She and Neal toured Scandinavia in the fall of 1991. Sissel and Neal sang a duet of "Breaking Up is Hard to Do" on her 1992 CD "Gift of Love". She also sang Neal's: "Miracle Song" and "Solitaire".
Excerpts from Neal's liner-note comments for "Gift of Love":
"... The moment she opened opened her mouth to sing, I was speechless. ... The only other occasion I can remember getting so excited with a female voice was thirty years ago, when I performed with Barbara Streisand.
But star quiality goes beyond a voice. The talent must have that undefineable 'something extra'; that personality that you want to embrace, the emotion that sends chills through you, the natural voice touched by God that all at once puts you in another place and time when you hear it."
Without doubt, the best interpretation of this song that I have heard. Neil Sedaka couldn't have sung it better. She touches one's heart and soul to the core....
Nah nah, my friend, stop that shit. She had a run with an older man once and it was a dead end. We won't have another bad trip with her, okay Sedaka? You may play with her though, as much as you like.
@Vocalallusive You know, it seems like he's simply adoring that performance. Watch him as much you can find he's pianoplaying at Youtube, he simply has to forgot he's part and makes it that dirt i never seen. People can't be dualcore as processors. You can focus only to main thing and he seems to be really upset and confused by her. Btw, me too. She's just run 14th with that talent. And what I like - she has never showing even in hardest parts that silly face as operasingers. She is the best!
@Vocalallusive A "run" with an older man? She was married with this man for many years, and have two children with him. He was older than her, but what about it?
I'm learning to sing this song now, because of Sissel's influence . )) so it's fun just to watch her sing it differently at different stages of her life. Sweet voice, sweet singer. Even Neil Sedaka seems to be charmed.
She sings beautifully and I think she is gorgeous but is this singer's name Sissel? I saw some other 1991 videos of Sissel and in those 1991 videos Sissel looks younger but has the same face and sings similarly to all the other current Sissel performances that are posted on youtube. But this "SISSEL" looks a lot different and her mouth moves differently when she sings. Plus I notice that "N. Sedaka and P. Cody" is posted across the screen. Could P. Cody be her name?
@HDBLandAC This is our Sissel Kyrkjebø. She is born in 1969, so here in 1991
she is 22 years old. Regarding her mouthmovements, maybe she is a bit more trained than in her first appearances. Look for "Pie Jesu" here on YouTube. You won't regret. From Norweay: Berit.
@HDBLandAC It's the same Sissel. I thought it wasn't at first but after the close up there was no doubt. I have a dvd of her singing in Norway and all the tracks on youtube are no where as old as this one.
she is just soo good,,, you can see it when you look at his face, he approves every note,,,(of course, because every note IS perfect :P) wonder why she isn`t more famous outside Norway,,,,she should,,,
Absolutely Brilliant performance by this Norse Goddess and one of the greatest song composers of the 20th century. I only regret I never heard of Sissel before seeing this video. Now I can't get enough of her.
Hehe, Neil Sedaka even played a little mistake note at his piano at 1:22 (if I didn't hear wrong) .. probably because he was soo into Sissel singing so beautiful
It's easy, isn't it!...Just look at Neil's face. What he's saying is that, "hell, this girl sings this better than I ever did, and I wrote the bloody thing". Sissel, so under-rated. Probably the best 'pop soprano' of today.
No, the norwegian version. She's norwegian, but has lived many years in Denmark. I should know, because I'm norwegian and The Little Mermaid is one of my favorites. =)
I just discovered this angel today. If I could hear her voice on my way out of this world it would ease the journey to the other side. She is simply an exquistie singer. Heavenly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Brava!!
how on earth is he rock and roll? that would be like anne murray or englebert humperdink being inducted...lovely talented people but so NOT rock and roll. let's call a spade a spade.
It's so sweet to see Neil's unselfish appreciation of the delightful Sissel. Aside from their enormous talents, they both seem like such genuine and nice people.
Yes. He is great, and she is great. I read his lips, he said: i love you. I never get bored by this song, it's so beutiful i can listen to it over and over again.
At 3:14, Neil sighs with delight about the way his song is being performed, and then, as he is looking at Sissel, he says "I love you". All I can say is "I'm right there with you, Buddy!!"
I love her, her voice is so beautiful, thank god she cut her hair short LOL, she looked kinda older than her age there ,sorry, but she looks so beautiful now with short hair :)
It's intriguing to watch the expression on Sedaka's face as they do this performance, he knows he's a part of being "bettered" by this wonderful lady. Seems to both love it a hate it at the same time. But in the end, he is appropriately humble and grateful.
Fantastic!!Powerful singer and song. Loved the ending!Powerful voice. Such a smooth and fantastic singing voice...wonder if she has some concert at this time of year? Thanks for sharing guys.Peter

Honey, being the biggest selling *anything* doesn't make it the best. It's a matter of marketing, that's all.
And in music, 'best' is a matter of taste.
Notice how Neil Sedaka is staring at Sissel, though - he can hardly take his eyes off her- he's spellbound by her voice.
He even plays a few wrong notes...
