  • Look at the height differential at the very end of the video. Sissel is tall, or Neil is not!

  • Wouldnt you say I Love You to her?

  • She is a goddess,, I found her today.....

  • She's 21 years old in this vid!!!

  • RESPECT!

  • Absolutely phenominal. What a difference in appearance, from 1991 to 2011. She was and still is drop-dead gorgeous. Just look at the face of Neil Sedaka; it says "I want You, Now!"

Her voice is better now. Just a great performer. She should spend more time in North America. Toronto would be good.

  • She sounds like Sarah Brightman.

  • Yes KAREN CARPENTER sings this song so wonderfully and conveys such evocative images in her interpretation!! Sissel sings this nice!

  • @dickdomino: Exactly. I think Neal's piano playing suffers because he is experiencing "Sissel Captivation Syndrome". She and Neal toured Scandinavia in the fall of 1991. Sissel and Neal sang a duet of "Breaking Up is Hard to Do" on her 1992 CD "Gift of Love". She also sang Neal's: "Miracle Song" and "Solitaire".

  • Sissel is definitely my favorite for all time. She is such an amazing singer and she inspires me a lot!!

  • I go for Oslo in next yer

  • Fantastic...

  • Without doubt, the best interpretation of this song that I have heard. Neil Sedaka couldn't have sung it better. She touches one's heart and soul to the core....

  • After listening to her, I can die now...!

Sublime, y todos los etcéteras del mundo.

    Sissel, ¡gracias por existir..!

Thank you Sissel, for existing here with us mere mortals..!

  • Sedaka knows talent when he sees it. Sissel is the bomb!

  • @beweau, I thought "run" was well suited to describe what had to come. Reality support me.

  • The best ...thank you for uploading this video hittingimage..Sublime...*S*

  • Nádherné! Tak čistý soprán a lehký projev!

  • 3:15 Mr Sedaka: "I love you"

Nah nah, my friend, stop that shit. She had a run with an older man once and it was a dead end. We won't have another bad trip with her, okay Sedaka? You may play with her though, as much as you like.

  • @Vocalallusive You know, it seems like he's simply adoring that performance. Watch him as much you can find he's pianoplaying at Youtube, he simply has to forgot he's part and makes it that dirt i never seen. People can't be dualcore as processors. You can focus only to main thing and he seems to be really upset and confused by her. Btw, me too. She's just run 14th with that talent. And what I like - she has never showing even in hardest parts that silly face as operasingers. She is the best!

  • @Vocalallusive A "run" with an older man? She was married with this man for many years, and have two children with him. He was older than her, but what about it?

    From Norway: Berit.

  • Oh my! Oh my!

  • Wow.

  • I can only say : WOW

  • I'm learning to sing this song now, because of Sissel's influence . )) so it's fun just to watch her sing it differently at different stages of her life. Sweet voice, sweet singer. Even Neil Sedaka seems to be charmed.

  • She sings beautifully and I think she is gorgeous but is this singer's name Sissel? I saw some other 1991 videos of Sissel and in those 1991 videos Sissel looks younger but has the same face and sings similarly to all the other current Sissel performances that are posted on youtube. But this "SISSEL" looks a lot different and her mouth moves differently when she sings. Plus I notice that "N. Sedaka and P. Cody" is posted across the screen. Could P. Cody be her name?

  • Comment removed

  • @HDBLandAC

The reason "N. Sedaka and P. Cody" is posted across the screen is that the song is written by Neil Sedaka and Phil Cody.

  • @HDBLandAC this is Sissel Kyrkjebø, the same sissel as the 1991 imagine video, and the later video of pie jesu. and she sings flawless as usual,,;-)

  • @HDBLandAC This is our Sissel Kyrkjebø. She is born in 1969, so here in 1991

she is 22 years old. Regarding her mouthmovements, maybe she is a bit more trained than in her first appearances. Look for "Pie Jesu" here on YouTube. You won't regret. From Norweay: Berit.

  • @HDBLandAC It's the same Sissel. I thought it wasn't at first but after the close up there was no doubt. I have a dvd of her singing in Norway and all the tracks on youtube are no where as old as this one.

  • 3.18: Neil going "I love you".

  • like the greek singer nana in her prime

  • Second best after Karen Carpenter's version and that puts Sissel in GREAT company!

  • Today I discovered Sissel. Turned out to be a wonderful day after all. Wow beautiful voice

  • They played the solitaire!

  • What a pair.

an absolutely magic songwriter and musician and an absolutely Magic voice

  • I'm am still crying at the end of this video!

  • ¡Qué maravilla!

  • The best ever!!!

  • @martinjacobnathan Absolutely Beautiful!

    Isn't she Magic??

  • Wonderful!

  • she is just soo good,,, you can see it when you look at his face, he approves every note,,,(of course, because every note IS perfect :P) wonder why she isn`t more famous outside Norway,,,,she should,,,

  • T H I S I S F A N T A S T I C ! ! !

  • my godness! an excellent voice from heaven accompanied with a wonderful written piece of song. Perfect combination !!

  • love you sissel.

  • Absolutely Brilliant performance by this Norse Goddess and one of the greatest song composers of the 20th century. I only regret I never heard of Sissel before seeing this video. Now I can't get enough of her.

  • @shilohrob

Check out "Oslo Gospel Choir" on YouTube for more of Sissel and more beautiful music.

  • Hehe, Neil Sedaka even played a little mistake note at his piano at 1:22 (if I didn't hear wrong) .. probably because he was soo into Sissel singing so beautiful

    ...how cute :)

  • "What a crystal clear song from Sissel!"

  • Beautiful!!! I agree..watching Neil Sedaka 's face is half the pleasure.

  • Watching Neil Sedaka's face is half the pleasure of watching this.

  • simply BEAUTIFUL!

  • It's easy, isn't it!...Just look at Neil's face. What he's saying is that, "hell, this girl sings this better than I ever did, and I wrote the bloody thing". Sissel, so under-rated. Probably the best 'pop soprano' of today.

  • I agree with you on that ..and she is the best...sublime..*S*

  • @dickdomino Yeah fair comment!!!!!! she's certainly grossly under rated.

  • A voice of an angel !!

  • When I first heard it and saw his reaction to her voice it was magic ! But of course it was SISSEL!

    No one could resist !

  • How could Sedaka not be in the hall of fame.

  • Magic, enchanting, such a moving voice , I am a big fan of this wonderful and beautiful woman ,thankyou Hittingimage .

  • lover her songs!

  • she is the voice of the mermaid in the danish version of Disney's The little mermaid. Loved her ever since...

  • No, the norwegian version. She's norwegian, but has lived many years in Denmark. I should know, because I'm norwegian and The Little Mermaid is one of my favorites. =)

  • actually she sings in both the norwegian, the sweedish and the danish version...i didn't know that until yesterday

  • I'm a huge Sedaka fan, but I had no idea of Sissel! She is fantastic!

  • SisselI great voice, glorious character.

  • ¡¡Simplemente fantástico!!

  • Sissel you are great !!..Thanks to you and Neil for such a beautiful song...

  • One word... Fantastic!

  • I just discovered this angel today. If I could hear her voice on my way out of this world it would ease the journey to the other side. She is simply an exquistie singer. Heavenly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Brava!!

  • Lovely Norway gave the rest of us all an angel---Sissel !!!!

  • I was mistaken. He says, "A little hope".

  • Am I mistaken or does Sedaka lean across the microphone at 1:42 and mouth the words "I love you" for the first time.

  • It cant be better sung than Sissel does! It seems like Sedaka loves it! Fantastic clip! Thanks!

  • this one is the best so far...

  • Like this version very much...

Sissel is a great, and so is Neil.

By the way, Sedaka fans have a petition on the internet, to get him inducted into the Rock Hall Of Fame.

Search here with 'Sedaka petition', and you'll find the link.

  • how on earth is he rock and roll? that would be like anne murray or englebert humperdink being inducted...lovely talented people but so NOT rock and roll. let's call a spade a spade.

  • this is much better than rock&roll

  • According to Sedaka the other is S. Bassey. Also Elvis did 2 versions of Solitaire, a live version and a studio version. I like his studio version.

  • Sedaka has said that Sissel is one of 2 of his favorite singers of this song. I think its the best!

  • and who's the other one?

  • It's so sweet to see Neil's unselfish appreciation of the delightful Sissel. Aside from their enormous talents, they both seem like such genuine and nice people.

  • I cant stop coming back for more of this song..Its the tops...

  • This is one anazing duo! I think this is the best ever version of Solitaire. As Sedaka says, "I love you."

  • Yes. He is great, and she is great. I read his lips, he said: i love you. I never get bored by this song, it's so beutiful i can listen to it over and over again.

  • A-MAZ-ING !!! I LOVE her voice, is SO goergous!!

  • love it =)

  • Brought tears to my eyes ! AMEN !

  • SUBLIME

  • At 3:14, Neil sighs with delight about the way his song is being performed, and then, as he is looking at Sissel, he says "I love you". All I can say is "I'm right there with you, Buddy!!"

  • agree 100 per cent -- isn't she great????

  • great !

  • wow Sissel owned this one and Neil was surprised ! Loved it !

  • Neil is so mesmerized by her rendition that a couple times he seems to lose his place on the piano. Not surprising given her voice and her beauty.

  • What a beautiful, crystal-clear voice!

  • Beautiful.

  • I love her, her voice is so beautiful, thank god she cut her hair short LOL, she looked kinda older than her age there ,sorry, but she looks so beautiful now with short hair :)

  • I can't say how much i love this song. I am nearly crying when i listen to it. And Sissel's voice is marvellous.

  • It's intriguing to watch the expression on Sedaka's face as they do this performance, he knows he's a part of being "bettered" by this wonderful lady. Seems to both love it a hate it at the same time. But in the end, he is appropriately humble and grateful.

  • Fantastic!!Powerful singer and song. Loved the ending!Powerful voice. Such a smooth and fantastic singing voice...wonder if she has some concert at this time of year? Thanks for sharing guys.Peter

  • What a beautiful collaboration, and Sissel sings one of my favorite songs and does such a fantastic job, as usual. She just has a perfect voice. I wish I could sing like her. Voice of an angel. :)

  • Sissel, your beauty is so contagious, not just your voice, but eveything about Sissel.

  • Such a beautiful voice that sings these beautiful lines just as

Mr. Sedaka wrote them. You can see in Neil's eyes how much

he loves the way she is singing his song. Nobody, including

Clay Aiken, can improve on this wonderful composition by a

supremely talented composer, pianist, and singer. What a

    wonderful colaboration.

  • Wow... Sissel sings so good...

Neil Sedaka must be very proud...

    Thanks for sharing this video.

  • such a breath-taking performance...this song/singer has touches me soooo much and in behalf of millions of fans outhere...luv it all...Long-Lived Sissel...

  • such a breath-taking performance...this song touches me soooo much and in behalf of million of fans outhere...deserved to be loved for all ages...long-lived Sissel!!!

  • Sissel is brilliant..Thanks !!

  • I am stunned....I am in love with this girl

and her voice and her beauty..

  • Is there no end to this girls talent, is there nothing she can't sing? Wonderful

  • I agree :-)

  • Sissel is just awesome. I love her and this song.

  • Sissel could sing the bloody phone book and it would sound great! She's a global treasure!

  • I love how she can transition her voice so easily from singing low to pretty high. Very impressed with her clarity and range!!

  • Je suis sûre que cette chanson est prise de "Momarkedet", annuelle émission norvégienne. A propos de Sissel Kyrkjebø, elle est magnifique, je manque des mots..

  • You are correct. This is from "Momarkedet".

  • Magnificent, adorable.....all the superlatives one can imagine to describe such an incredible voice. Sissel is so marvelous!

  • I never liked this song from when I was just a kid... until I heard Sissel's version from her CD... now I like the song, but only when she sings it. SIMPLY AMAZING!!!

  • As a fan of Sissel for some time now, this video is a real treasure!!

    Thank you so very much!!!

  • This is just so beautiful. The song itself is a deeply moving tale of a lonely man, and Sissel singing it is a great tribute to any man who feels or has felt this way. I am touched by her performance and the fact that she´s so much into it that she almost breaks up severeal times.

  • I never heard of Sissel but she sure can sing her braids loose.

  • Sissel keeps amazing me. Who could sing Solitaire as well as she does? Brillant, just brillant. Can you see Sedaka enjoying every second of it!

  • Try and listen to Elvis Presley´s version as well (it reflects his own life in a very special way).

Still, I must agree that this performance tops almost everything. A woman singing this song with such emotion is something very special.

  • Sisel certainly made me cry.

  • This day, Sissel has about 40 in fever, (Norwegian thermometer) and still she sings like an angel. just look at neil. at the end of the song he sais "I love you"

  • What a nice job........very good. Ahhh Beauty and talent too.

  • Isn't it criminal here in the States now, for someone to be so beautiful and talented at the same time! Flawless voice, great artist!

  • I'm so proud to be Norwegian when I hear you sing. I have seen you perform both in the US and here in Norway...one word...PERFECT!! You are the best!!

  • I love her in "the little mermaid"...

  • Oh my god! I've been searching for this clip for ages since first I saw it. I think it is tim we pay hommage were hommage is deserved. Spread the word!

  • Amazing! She really needs to be heard more in the US and Canada. Is there a site where I can find this other than YouTube?

  • Sissel is the best soprano ever

  • The second best, Sarah Brightman is the best:)

She is the biggest selling soprano of all times.

But Sissel is very good to.

  • karan is the best

  • Who?

  • karen Carpenter

  • Honey, being the biggest selling *anything* doesn't make it the best. It's a matter of marketing, that's all.

And in music, 'best' is a matter of taste.

Notice how Neil Sedaka is staring at Sissel, though - he can hardly take his eyes off her- he's spellbound by her voice.

He even plays a few wrong notes...

  • Thank you. Much appreciated. Cheers! MM. Sydney, Australia.

  • What a treat.. Thanks very much!
