  • hi, what's the song of this vidéo plzzzz

  • Sweet Virginia, Exile On Main St.

  • @django030358: Although, it should be noted, they didn't actually record Sweet Virginia at Nellcote, though it appears on Exile On Main Street. It was actually recorded the previous year (1970) before they departed from England. It was recorded at Mick's country house, Stargroves, again using the mobile truck as they did in the summer of '71 at Nellcote.

  • @aarfeld, I know that as I collect Stones bootlegs since the mid seventies, but the song fits perfectly to the atmosphere of this place (and the clip) IMO.

  • who the heck even owns that place now? cuz they should totally make that into a ROLLING STONES MUSEUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! =)

  • exile on main street!!!

  • Watching this vid for 1.000th time, I though that, in some way, that´s something like the Graceland of our generation...

  • i must confess I´m absolutely jealous bout your 2007 vacations at the Cote d´Azur....Did you know if there´s anybody living there now? greetings from Spain...

  • Hi, Thanks for your feedback. It was big fun visiting this place. I wanted to go there since I read about the Exile sessions for the first time 30 years ago. I am sure that someone is living there but I have no idea who it is.

  • Was there a week ago. Place is being refurbished on the outside and roof. A bunch of workers there.

Tricky to find but worth it. Took a good pic with the Exile LP resting above the Nellcote sign at the gate that is seen at 1:46

  • I was planning to go there sometime too, but it looks like you cannot have a peek around, can you?

  • Looks like somewhere I saw in a movie

    ...if walls could talk, meow

  • remind me the book of Robert greenfield; Exile on Main Street: A Season in Hell With the Rolling Stones ..

    Excellent vid !

I read "Exile on Main Street: A Season In Hell With The Rolling Stones" recently--and it was really cool to be able to put a visual to all the images that I had created in my head around the stories!

  • No chance, I don't sell it! ;~)

  • Who lives there now?

  • Probably some Russian maffioso...

  • thanks, i was mistaken that Nellcote was gone. now the pilgrimage is back on!

  • A beautiful video, and a wonderful place, and a crazy summer the band and their families, friends etc must have had there. I´loved this are, I've been there (we also did a tour along the Cote d'Azur), and it was beautiful. And although we were very close,I didn't visit Nellcote, though, will do that next time, for sure!

    Thanks for the video!

  • One more comment. I once found The Stones the Andy Warhol "factory" days etc. endlessly fascinating. At 54 {they are 63 now} I guess a lot of the glamor has worn off as far as the hedonism and drug use. There were ALOT of casualties from that era. To me only the terrific music {from their younger days} survives. Geriatric rock bands do nothing for me. No youth.........not glamor.

  • Looks like a nice place. The Stones looked for another place to record but were dissatisfied in their search so what began as a temporary thing {Nellcote} became....the thing. It has become legendary over the years but was probably pretty mundane for most of the Stones at the time. Recording can often be boring and time consuming. It takes two days to get one good minute. It was the last gasp as far as a youthful Stones is concerned. They were never youthful again.

  • Hah, Righteous. I wonder if it still has Nazi morphine in the basement...
