And I'm sure the Chinese blame the accidents on Tibetan backwardness. I'm sorry to believe the war there is over and China won. I'm glad we got over there when we did. I imagine the first KFC is under construction right now.
100-meter drops from guard-rail-less dirt roads might not affect you the same way as some people. You may have noticed also that Tibetans and Chinese are a little new at driving. They're most comfortable in the middle of the road. The quality of the roads appears to be improving rapidly. I too feel that everyone was beautiful and friendly. Unfortunately, a police state usually is a very deceivingly-peaceful place.
Why was it a risky journey . I Did the same trip(lhasa to everest base camp via shigatse gyantse in may 06 and never felt scared or at "risk". Beautiful place beautiful people
Made the Lhasa to Kodari trip 4 times in 1987...This was a stopping point on our trips...nice town.

Point taken . Any accident we came across on the drive was usually atributed to Chinese drivers ,by our Tibetan drivers.
