The turbo era was one of the best times in F1, maybe the V16's was a close second but I really liked the V10 and V12 variance after that. I bet when F1 downsizes their V8's to V6's they won't be turbo, and eventually they'll go to I4's which I HOPE they allow turbo on those.

The naturally aspirated 3 liter formula was the most stabe and beautiful F1 motorsports history until the sanctioning body started messing about with it. From the late '60's to the late '70's some of the most beautiful cars of the modern era, and the Lotus 78 was amount the most perfect. Wonderful memories of that era.

You're probably thinking of the Lotus 79. It was the perfect car for the 1978 season. The Lotus 78 was designed in 1976 but not raced untl the 1977 season.

Yep. Although the Lotus 78 did have some ground effect it didn't have sliding skirts and the ground effect worked too well at the front of the car, thus they were forced to counter that with a huge rear wing, which slowed the car on the straight, which meant they tried a more powerful but less reliable Cosworth V8, which meant Andretti lost the 1977 title. Phew. :)

Anyway they got it right with the Lotus 79 and all the other teams had to play catch up. Williams got it best.
