The band said in multiple interviews that the inspiration for this album was the music they heard on "long car rides" with this parents when they were young. That's why there's so much 70's and 80's influence in this album...contrary to most people's thoughts that the band was selling out. ;)

I listened to the album twice and I keep wondering... Rilo Kiley what happened? Is it warner that wants you to change your style to sell more records? You guys just wanted to be famous and sell out? You got tired of not making it into mainstream? Who knows.

The lyrics are fine, is what Rilo Kiley would write, but come on, they have made better songs with complex rythms, AMAZING guitars sounds and MUCH longer lyrics.

Certainly, if it weren't for the lyrics i'd say they totally sold out.
