Its kinda of a pluck/brush/ pluck(mute) that is not consciously done... it happens because the chord changes on each beat(slow down) and I "three string pluck" them with the fat pad of the finger. That method ends up momentarily muting the chord till the next one is plucked. I also may be muting it with the heel of my hand occasionally without thing about it. I improvise a lot and am not always aware of what I am doing.
