  • Well that mango died, but i have one that made it and its in the ground. I was wandering if i should start a compost pile next to it, so i does not die when winter comes? What are your ideas?

  • Hey, how do you know when its time to transplant it to a bigger pot?

  • @acidexpierence Transplant it once it makes a few sets of leaves. You can also make things less complicated for yourselve and initially plant it in a large pot to start :).

  • @Reptiliatus Yea, I have it in an 8" pot now, it has about 5 leaves that are growing quite large and beginning to turn green slowly. I think the pot is pretty good for now. What do you think?

  • You are using plastic pot for mango plant?

  • hey, i have a seedling and it looks like the top got pinched and it is starting to rot back, in you video you said you cut it and something else i couldn't understand what you said. Can you please give me some advice? :/

  • @saberblast1 Hi, hope it's not too late, I cut the rotten part off, kept watering normally and kept the plant in ample light and it just grew a new shoot from the exposed part of the seed. Hope yours makes it!

  • I followed your instructions, and mine has roots already!!! Thanks for posting.

  • i had my mango plant for 4 months and it's looking good. Can't wait till it gets bigger.

  • @SuperKare123 awesome!

  • @Reptiliatus Wonderful! Glad it worked out for you :D!

  • i have 2 mango plants. i planted them around a year ago. one of them is about 4 feet tall now and doing great, the other is about a foot and i dont think it will ever get really big.

  • looks like it needs water man

  • @ovandocarter Actually after having grown a few more Mango trees I found that this is completely normal. The leaves grow out quite droopy and harden and darken into a nice green within a few days.

  • @Reptiliatus yours is how mine looked and mine is starting to look like the one in ur update

  • @Reptiliatus yeah but it needs much moisture all the time and your soil is really dried

  • @adidasbooi I agree with your comment, but the tree was quite fine only the top of the substrate was dried. I I recall correctly (seeing as this video is over a year old) I stuck my finger in the soil to check if it needed water, it didn't. That being said, the tree is alive and healthy and has grown about a foot since.

The leaves were droopy because they were new. Mango tree leaves start a droopy redish brown then gain their firmness and green color with time. Thanks for your concern :)

  • @Reptiliatus yeah i agree with you this time! x) it often just dry the soil on the top but just a layer, and when u dig in the soil with ur finger it's still moisture but under that thin littled dried layer! sorry! looks fine, green and healthy thanks for share, keep us updated! it's addactive once u start xD

  • The leaves start out floppy, with a reddish ting to them. After a few days the leaves begin to harden and stand up.

The plant looks normal, but you might want to give it a little more water.

Remember that their roots will grow deep, so be ready to transplant it.

Don't worry too much about the size. You can keep it reasonably small by keeping it in a small pot... but not too small. Try a 3 gallon pot.

  • It looks to me as your plant needs more water.

  • For a better Instructional video come on over to "The Mnago Plant Maker"

  • For a Great Instructional video on growing a mango seed come on over to "The Mnago Plant Maker"

  • I've started a mango tree as well, here in Texas. It's crazy how fast they grow in the first few weeks!

  • @KDog430

Don't grow it too close to the house. The roots get big, as does the tree in most cases. Some of the plants can grow to be really enormous. There's a video on youtube where one old lady had to cut her tree down after about twenty years, because it was starting to damage the foundation of her home.

If you don't want to worry about that, try planting a dwarf mango tree.

  • Yes it will look like that for a few weeks but it looks like your not givring it sun because i have a mango tree and that was what happind and i gave it sun and the leaves got up

  • You are a Canadian version of me! :L I started a mango a few weeks ago and it looks so beautiful! Hopefully the leaves will expand more and green up soon!

  • your mango tree looks good nice and healthy to!!

  • how long does it take till it starts giving mangoes since the seed

  • What variety of mango is it please?

  • How long does the mango root/spout have to be before you can put it in soil? When it's ready, how is it placed? Does the side you place down or up matter? Thanks!

  • @dillontard Hi there, I would plant it on the soil sideways and barely cover it with soil. :)

  • @Reptiliatus Oh boy. I was worried my seed might be covered in mold on the soil covered side so I GENTLY pulled it up. The root broke about half way from the seed. It was around 3 inches long. Is there any way it'll fix itself?

  • @dillontard

just put it back in the soil and leave it alone. Usually they can survive, but sometimes, if the root is too damaged, I hate to say, they can die.

  • I was nearly in tears when i found out you cant do this kinda thing with banana and have to actually BUY a tree/seedling :/

i want one of those lol

  • Ya I know it stinks eh?! I have a little advice though... One, alot of nurseries do actually sell small banana plants so you could try looking for one there. Also an amazing Canadian Nursery that ships internationaly is Howaiian Botonicals (search the name on google). Once your on their site you can send them an email and see if they have any banana trees. hope this helps!

  • How long pod-peeling to what i see in the video?

    4 weeks?

  • Sorry what do you mean by "pod-peeling"? After I know that I'll try to answer your question :).

  • Peeling open the pod "the hard outer shell"

to reveal the "bean/seed" inside of is what i meant by pod peeling :D

After watching this video i ran over to loblawns and grabbed 4 mangoes, at them all at once "felt a lil sick after lol"

and put them all in soil/bag the way you did

    that plant is smexy :D

  • The leaves are fine, they could be just a "tiny" bit stiffer, but thats to be expected indoors.

  • it looks pretty good but when they turn green they are mature leaves but when you see the sprout that shot back roots come out the same place as the stem so it may have been a root

  • hey looks good

i have this weird plant that my friend gave me and when it grows seedlings sprout from the inside of each ridge on a leaf from it and i was hoping you could help me define what type of plant i have

  • Hmmm there are virtually 1000's if not millions of possibilities for what your plant could be. If you send me a picture I'd be happy to try to Identify it. sorry for the delay! Sincerely, Dayyan

  • sadly i dont have a camera

the only thing i know is its not a type of jade or pothos

    thanks anyways

i also am thinking about buying a venus fly trap do you know how to repot them and how much to water them because i know how to feed them and they practically feed themselves

  • Hi, sincerely sorry for the late reply... Yes Absolutely. I wouldn't repot your venus flytrap any time soon since we are fast aproaching winter and your flytrap will need to go through its winter dormancy. The best time to re-pot/transplant your flytrap is during the early spring, although I personaly have done it a few times during the growing season with little noticed effect. You'll want to use a 50/50 mix of Spaghnum peat moss and washed coarse sand (washed play sand works fine for this).

  • Mix the peat moss and sand together well and plant the vft into the pot. For watering remember that carnivorous plants should only be watered with pure water (reverse-osmosis, bottled, rain or filtered) seeing as they are very sensitive to the minerals and metals in tap water. The plant may seem fine for awhile but it will suddenly die after these products build up in its soil. Hope this helps!

  • cant you jus put the seed in water

  • You could but I had the best luck doing my method illustrated...

  • i want one...i need to get pot and soil for mine b4 it dies...u think a very small pot would work?....like just a little bigger than the seed?

  • Hey sorry for the delay... Well if you can get a bigger pot that would be better. Infact the one I'm using is probably gonna be too small for it soon becasuse mango trees have deep growing root, thus you'll eventually need a bigger/deeper pot. Hope this helps btw the seed wont die you can let it dry completely and plant it whenever you want :) !

  • i had already planted it and leaves are growing....and looks good for now...how do u take care of it...does it require a lot of watering/sunlight/humidity?

  • It's looking awesome!

  • Wow! its doing great!

  • Thanks! I hope it stays that way! Fingers crossed!!!
