Yeah, 8500GT is pretty fail. That C2D should be fine, just get a 4850 or 4870. Even better yet, use the money you were going to spend on the i7 and get a 5850...should be about double the performance I get with a 4850. I'm still waiting for these prices to come down before jumping on the 5850 myself.

Yes, of course! A game like CoD1 will probably run at like a million FPS. I ran some CoD2 but didn't check the FPS w/ Fraps because its obviously super high. However, just a little tip if you plan to run CoD1 in particular: If you are using a multi-core cpu, you wanna bring up the task manager and set the core affinity for the game to 1 core. Otherwise strange things will happen, like frozen enemies or checkpoints not completing.

Just realized this comment was on my Win7 video and not my 4850 on XP video. But yeah, CoD1 should work fine although I haven't tested it. Age of Empires III says there is a compatibility issue, but I just ignore the notification and I haven't had any problems with it. Maybe I'll make a vid of older games running on Win7 next.

Well there's always the option to dual boot XP and 7. Thats what I'll be doing once I get an SSD. Gonna put Windows 7 on the SSD with all my newer games and then dual boot with XP on a regular 7200rpm HDD for other programs and stuff including any games I run into that have compatibility issues. Mirror's Edge is a good example. If you watch my 4850 vid where I use XP, Mirror's Edge runs great. Was gonna put it in this vid but it won't work properly for me in 7.

the ati 5770, 5850, and 5850 are dx 11 cards and they're already out lol. the only thing they can use dx 11 with tho are some benchmarking tools because of obviously no games support dx 11 yet.

Yeah, it sure can. It runs much smoother than this video shows...Fraps took the framerates down substantially while recording COD 5. You don't have to change anything...it just works.

The benchmarks I've seen say that Vista and 7 perform pretty equally, with Vista taking the lead in some games. But almost everything *feels* smoother under Windows 7 to me. And thats what really matters, regardless of what the benchmarks say.

Only difference between my TV and a LCD computer monitor is the resolution. And since I have to play at a lower resolution, I tend to crank up the AA. Will be getting a 24" 1080p monitor in a couple months.
