  • Rolling Stones are good because they listen this music!

  • swamp...

  • Epic!

  • its not superstition fukin weirdo, i belive that you cant just die and nothing happens are soul is caried somewhere or has to do something

  • @iammewhoami "Are soul is caried somewhere or has to do something"

An interesting assertion - do you have any proof to back it up? (Just remember, an extraordinary claim requires extraordinary evidence.)

  • @imaccuish exactly how do you know its not goin to be carried to heaven or hell do you you have any proof its not

  • The sound quality is EXCELLENT!

  • THIS IS REALLY REALLY REALLY GOOD, OH FU**. LOL His voice and the way he plays is just brilliant.

  • Why there is a masonic sign at fred's grave?

  • @ihaveallseeingeyes just read the previous comments man :)

  • O som que toca a alma , quando DEUS te chamar vc tem que ir . YOU GOTTA MOVE

  • @ CBBalthazar. the fact you even love music like this makes you a person who understands artistic expression and weather or not it was before or after i think the two people are playing the same song

  • really what year?? johnson died in 1932? come on in my kitchen by robert johnson

  • Yes! I finally found the original song artist! I play this everyday on guitar. Thanks for the upload man! :D

  • I am 15 yet I adore this.

  • @TheHostClan no one cares that your 15 and you adore this, you fucking douche

  • The blues........

  • listen to the fucking songs

  • this is a rip off of robert johnson's come on in my kitchen!!!!!

  • @FourChordBlues Fred McDowell came before Johnson. Just letting you know...

  • @FourChordBlues robert johnson wrote come on in my kitchen as a homage to the sheiks' sittin on top of the world. it wasn't considered stealing back then, it was done in praise of the song.

  • @bluesguitarist93

Have you listened to the lyrics? :-) Since I've been presented with no evidence for gods, the lyrics are somewhat moot for me. Still, I dig the song, in the same way I dig some of Alison Krause's religiously-themed tunes.

  • Ah, a Freemason...

  • Sweet!

  • A true legend. I don't mean to sound disrespectful, but does anyone else think he resembles the scarecrow dude from Wizard of Oz.

  • I like this version, but everybody is saying that the rolling stones version is better, I think they're both equally amazing.

  • sweet

  • Funny how the sign at 2:28 says that he died on July 13, 1972 while his gravestone says July 3, 1972.

  • Aerosmith did a pretty good cover on Honkin' On Bobo albumn...this is the best.....

  • who of those new school pop artist can touch THIS?!

  • This guy is fuckin awsome, but what an ugly mother...

  • Top Tune :)x

  • The melody is the same as "Sitting on Top of the World" and "Come On in My Kitchen". Great tune.

  • This is the God I believe in.......

  • there aint no atheists in foxholes

  • Real sound with real emotions... Priceless...

  • damn fred MAC dowell!!!

gives me goose bumps the way that guitar is played and the way the man sings!!!

  • I'm an atheist and I even love this :-)

    Freaking awesome!

  • @WithoutGods ahaha mmm...Your nickname is quite explicit :)

  • @WithoutGods i dont understand what being an atheist has to do with this song.

  • @WithoutGods You know that Keith Richards and Co. are of similar attitudes. Does not mean that we don't give a damn about you. I was raised in the Christian traditions. but don't practice, abd still identify with them.

  • @WithoutGods why did 13 thumbs up an athiest hes gonna burn

    in hell

  • @iammewhoami I dunno, maybe because at least 13 folks have advanced beyond superstition and bigotry?

  • i heard this 40 years ago by the stones ... how sweet to hear the original

  • @kaja66 didn't you know the original until now? take a look at my blues icons playlist! there is the original version of "backdoor man" by willie dixon! covered by the doors

    peace

    Marco

  • @frenzexperiment i absolutely fuggin luv this, if he was alive i;d travel everywhere jus ta shake the mans hand .. ya ... when the lord get ready ... listen to that sorry guitar ... ya got ta move

  • @frenzexperiment 40 years ago thar warent no utube,bro

  • @chipgowest your welcome buddy! Glad if you found out something inspiring among my uploads...this is the reason why I put them on my channel!

    Take care

    Marco :)

  • Simply awesome.

  • You may be high

    You may be low

    You may be rich, child

    You may be po'

But when the Lord gets ready

    You've got to move!

    WOW!!!!!!!!

  • >>> There were many black artists who were Freemasons.... also Bob Marley's Buffalo Soldiers were Prince Hall Freemasons.... in more modern times Barak Obama is a 32% Prince Hall mason too......

  • This sparse aching piece is gut wrenching. There is irony dripping from this song. The vocals, music and lyric all mesh to create the classic blues.

  • Lost music, what happened to music? I guess it is up to us old timers to keep it going.

    Mississippi Delta

  • @mo9504

I'm a 23 years old-old timer from Italy eheh... this means that this music hasn't got lost...it just becomes more precious when few people hear it...

    Peace

    Marco

  • concordo

  • @andreafloyd88 su cosa? :)

  • @mo9504 Im only 20 n Im finding more n more blues musicians I never heard of.

  • How did he get that unique sound? They sound loose and in open D tuning, yet still keeps its tone.

  • The Fucking Boss

  • Oh God.... The rolling stones are so BIG

  • Oh God....

  • Sister Jesse Mae Renfro recorded thid song also.

  • 3 people couldn't move

  • @BritishTokuFan

    LMAO!

  • 3 dislikes, obviously deaf & blind or on average of view probably they just hit the wrong key! GENUIS

  • This man has feel.

  • He coached Bonnie Raitt on slide guitar technique - Needless to say it boosted her career tremendously

  • Isso é muito bom!! Fred rulez!!

  • three absolutely wrong people, cick on the wrong button.

    missisippi fred was awesome!

  • Wow, this song is basically "Sitting on Top of the World" with different lyrics.

  • this is a damn good song. You know what he's saying but at the same time you don't.

  • могилка красивая

  • coming back to this song again, these old blues dudes just kill me

  • after hearing this i realize the stones version is very true to this version. this guy has a quivering in his voice that is lacking in mick's vocal but other than that i prefer the stone's version.

  • supercool dieser song !!!!!!!

  • Did I see a Freemason symbol on his tombstone?

  • @xijack you're right, just read the previous comments...someone noticed this thing before!

  • @xijack, you sure did.

  • @xijack...think so

  • @xijack He was either a member or a benificiary of one of the fraternal organisations that were set up by black men of means to help each other and the less fortunate. They sometimes used the masonic symbol, and I doubt a "coloured" man could be a freemason in those days down south.

  • @mrshad544

prince hall masons aka the 'black masons' were formed in the 1700's.

  • @makeda13 Thanks Makeda, I just checked out Prince Hall and his history, interesting.

  • @xijack Was just about to write this as my comment so yeah I saw it too.

  • Looks like 3 people didn't move fast enough...

  • La versión de los stones es buenisima !!

  • This is true blues, not f**king comercial shit!

  • i sincerely doubt that this song was written by mcdowell and gary davis. the two men lived in different parts of the us and had very little to do with each other. where does this information come from?

  • @fidcoffcig the info comes from wikipedia, just search for "you gotta move (song)"

  • @frenzexperiment : I'm pretty sure that he song is traditional/public domain, and that both Fred and the Rev were able to claim songwriting credit (and royalties) for their respective arrangements/performances.

  • @fidcoffcig I have it on very good authority from a close personal friend of Fred's. When the Rolling Stones put this on Sticky Fingers (Ry Cooder on guitar) Fred was given the credit, but Rev Gary Davis' people laid claim to it as well for royalty purposes. In fact the tune probably pre-dates both of them. Wonderful tune regardless....

  • @fidcoffcig interesting story - McDowell wrote music/words from an old church hymnal - hypnotic w. slide Meanwhile, Rev. Gary Davis - writes it in a faster picking style and calls it his. Fred's record co. guy + Rev's agent come together to sue The Stones for royalties - 75% went to Fred, 25% went to Rev. and they're BOTH listed as 'co-writers' even though they had not gotten together, at all, for this :)

  • my story is about living in the US

  • how did we sink from this to justin bieber...?!??!???

  • @moosey288 Avarice.

  • took that beef bone and filed it with a file. . .

  • Sheriff little Doodle fired a shot at you whoooooo woooooo!

  • This is the first song I ever learned to play completely by ear (and with a slide too!) I'd been playing for a long time and one day I heard this song and decided to pick up a slide. I played it right the first time. I still can't believe it.

  • Just found a new release of never before heard Fred McDowell recordings from 1967—“Come and Found You Gone,” from Devil Down Records---there are some free samples too (devildownrecords. com)

  • great

  • seeing this man perform his songs

was something else, back in the day.

    outstanding.

  • fred is god

  • alcohol music............. sittn on the porch with a smoke in ma mouth lettn the evening go by. yes sir

  • @NoRosesForMe Music belongs to everyone my friend and blues, in particular, is about everyone's story...I'm not sharing it, I'm just spreading the news...

    Marco :)

  • This is the heart of Blues.

    Respect.

  • good sits on a stool

  • damn, freddie was gifted, stones aren't even close

  • @plutogallery Thanks to YOU for watching and commenting...

    Peace

    Marco

  • Thanks for the post Frenzexperiment!!!! really nice slideshow.

    7-bar blues!!!!

The Aerosmith version, looses something by rounding it out to 8-bars.

  • I remember I heard a testament cd or record with a pre war version of this song. Not sure it was Fred himself? Anybody tell me.

  • sweet, nice slideshow too!

  • @jondavidgriffin thanks for watching, glad if you liked it!

  • what Lou.. you think there aren't any black Freemasons? think again

  • aerosmith sucks. Fred is a God.

  • @thelordnick Hell no, Aerosmith doesn't suck

  • thank you fred

  • god bless, man

  • Hey, what's with that Masonic simbology on his grave?

  • @LouGypsyBlue

in the book "Blues traveling: the holy sites of delta blues" the author says he was a high level member of the organization...

  • @frenzexperiment

    D:

I have to get that book, thanks man!

  • @frenzexperiment That's very disappointing to hear.

  • @ScarTissue111907 what are you referring to?maybe the masonic simbology thing?

  • @frenzexperiment Yeah about him being a Freemason. Love his music though, never disappointed when listening to that.

  • @ScarTissue111907 You know I'm not familiar with masonic ideologies in America, since i'm Italian... However let's enjoy Fred's music, which is surely unbeatable...

    Thanks for watching

    Marco

  • aerosmith version kicks the shit out of this

  • @rphbo personal tastes, buddy...I prefer the genuineness of this version or the sones' cover of this tune...

    thanx for watching

  • @rphbo you must be on crack...

  • @rphbo dont be silly!! you aint got no taste pal

  • @rphbo hey, are you retarded? just wondering.

  • @rphbo If you're stupid. Aerosmith is good, but fuck.. you have to be a lunatic not to like this, and like it more.

  • deze is togh niet van die anwb togh

  • Really really well done montage. I remember when I first heard Mississippi Fred McDowell my mom had bought me a cd because i was a total music nerd and I didnt appreciate him. Years later I realize what an awesome gift it was.

  • @TheMrEMeat

Thank you...btw the montage is very simple and probably it could have been done in a better way but my aim was to post some great music, since nowadays it is rare to find good shit...

    Cheers

    Marco

  • Fucking A'

Even the Stones and Aeroesmith know this.

The man is an Untold Legend.

  • the blues are the roots and all the other are the fruits

    indeed....

  • Comment removed

  • Haunting rhythm, lyrics and voice... Stunning!

    Thanks a lot man!!!

  • @LSDelusions Thank you for watching

    Cheers

  • Very nice!!!

  • göttlich ^^

  • does he have an acoustic with f holes in it? or is that just an epifone dot special thing

  • @fireiron123 its called an archtop guitar

  • sounds like "come on in my kitchen" by robert johnson

  • @Repulver The way he's playing it does sound like "come on in my kitchen". Rev. Gary Davis plays it much faster with a lot more power and authority. Both versions are great.

  • Ole Fred could play them bones achin' blues.

First discovered Fred McDowell back in 1968 when I was in High School.

I was the only white boy in my West Virginia High School who liked the blues, and while everyone else was listening to that crap being sent over here from England, I was listening to Mississippi Fred McDowell, Sun House, Lead Belly, etc.

I still love dem blues, and nothing I've found comes as close to moving my soul like dem old Delta blues

  • why Blues is so melacholic and South American music so frivolous?

Becauces in the North they took the instruments away from the slaves!

And hear the impact of that fact!

    thx

  • godlike!

  • you gotti moo

  • How can you be an atheist???

This is God talking through Fred...get with it!!!

  • I'm not going to continue this debate - it's a simply asinine subject for a blues video - but if you want to take into account the wonderful things your God has given you, you must also acknowledge the horrible atrocities he's committed against others.

"It’s just that I get so tired of Him getting credit for all the things the human race achieves through its own stubborn effort."

  • Fantasties

  • " THE BLUES. "

  • the recording quality on this is rad

  • There is sometihng to be heard from this man's soul.

  • STRAIGHT TO THE SOUL......talent given by god. moves me like no other modern music can....thank god for the black man...(and yes, i am white).

  • what an incredible recording.

  • I would highly suggest everyone to read the book " It came from Memphis" by Robert Gordon. Pg 203 describes Charlie Freemans funeral where Jim Dickinson played this song on piano for his longtime friend and cohort. A very touching send off for a fellow musician.. I personally can't think of a better way ... I invite thoughts and comments ...

  • @scott87031 : I haven't read the book, but it's nice to come across a fellow blues fan like you. Son House and Robert Johnson are my favorites. Man, these men established EVERYTHING we listen to these days, and don't get a portion of the credit they deserve!

  • This sounds amazing if you play The Jack by ac/dc on top of this

  • this is suh-weeeet! brilliant. gotta keep this music alive.

  • Man i live the sound of bottleneck, it sounds so....Amazing

  • amen!
