You can call Alan Moore weird, you can call him crazy, you can even call him strange, but I'll tell you what, Mr. Moore can write one hell of a story, i.e. Watchmen.
Hhhm, I've never been a great supporter of dork causes, but I suppose I don't intend them any ill will. My primary motive for using the term, was to deflate Miller's militantly ignorant veneer of machismo.
Those guys tend to get upset if you point out what shmucks they are.
@Jcolinsol I liked Millers art, back in 79-80, but didnt care all that much for the great latitude they gave him in re writing dd's origin. Still what turned me fully from him, was being burned on that expensive abonomation"The dark knight strikes again' Gahh!!! Worst mini series EVER!! An insult to fandom. Its amazing he still manages to sell any copies of his dreck.
All this stuff showing Frank Miller's good work really makes me wonder what the hell happened to him in the past 10 years. From "The Dark Knight Strikes Again" to "The Spirit".
Dark Knight Returns was fantastic, but he totally, one hundred percent missed the point of Superman. His misinterpretation could only be a mistake. It's not the sort of total misunderstanding that you can make on purpose. It's just embarrassing if anyone really understands and enjoys the character.
@razieldumas I didn't mind Supes in DKR too much because this was back when no one had considered that interpretation of Supes before, and before he got a big overhaul. However, some idiots think that interpretation of Supes is still valid, which is embarrassingly ridiculous and really irritates me, because Supes was reconstructed in such a way that nowadays he'd never, *ever* act like he did in DKR. All the logic behind DKRSupes would utterly fail if you tried to apply it to canonSupes.
@razieldumas Superman has a history of being very patriotic, respecting the president, iconically saluting, posing with the American flag, aiding service men and fighting for his country has been important to the character. He agrees to abide by the laws of the land (“the American way”).
i believe Frank Miller wanted to show his true opinion about Superman, Batman thinks Superman is very naive and he portrays that in The Dark Knight Returns, yea that's true but he wanted to go a different way and it works
@grumpytosnowwhite No, he didn't say Batman thinks anarchy should be the natural state of things. Frank Miller said that Batman believes that enthalpy is the natural state of existence. Frank Miller said "I'll gleefully take credit for breaking up the Batman/Superman friendship. Bruce has been one who enforces order and believes that enthalpy is the natural state of existence, while Superman believes that order is the norm. These two people would not like each other. They just wouldn't."
@thecooooolcat Oh, 'scuse me. I must've misheard. That makes *more* sense, but it's still weird: in the main comics, the Batman/Superman friendship is *very* strong, even if they disagree a lot more than they did pre-Crisis. I'm not sure I understand his logic about that point. Is he saying that people with different opinions can't like each other? Hrm.
@grumpytosnowwhite In order to form friendship people generally need to enjoy each others company and open up to each other and share opinions and agree on things or be prepared to have tense unfriendly arguing. As a reader I am entertained by tension and conflict between Bruce and Superman. I'm a fan of both characters and it's their differences from each other that make them such interesting, individual characters to me.
And thank you for making Daredevil amazing as well

Batman thinks anarchy should be the natural state of things?
HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAAHA.
Wow. I never pegged Frank Miller as a hack before. I thought he was just a genius who went insane after being successful.

God, I LOVE this documentary.
It's not 100% accurate. It's not as eloquent as it could be.
But the heart and the exuberance of superhero comics is really expressed in it.
