  • Incredible!!!

  • Ralph was the drummer and had the upper hand ond this!

  • There they go: The funkiest White boys in The Music Industry doing their thing. God bless Maurice and Verdine White Jr.!

  • where is donwload, this is very good :-)

  • Maurice White says it best at 2:56 - "We're talking about groove personified."

I was a 10 year old white kid in Connecticut in 1975. This stuff was SO FUNKY - that it probably scared me back then. As a grown musician, I can NOW appreciate just how great this is. Such a level of "tightness" with a dozen instruments requires a brilliant leader like Maurice White. The Beatles still effected my head the most - but this music targets the lower half of your body. Amazing.

  • DON'T YOU JUST LOVE MAURICE DANCING?

  • if you listen to the lyrics they were way ahead of their time..since the earth revolves around the sun hence mighty people of the sun...always a positive message in their music, incredible vocals unlike any other you hear today and the music is out of this world

    EWF forever and ever...

  • Few other bands used horns, few other bands used 2 drummers and few other bands had tight vocal harmonies. Earth, Wind & Fire had/has it all.

  • 1975 - the year I was born - paaaarrrty!!

  • Jordan and Pippen on Stage!

  • wish they still made music and clothes the way the did back then.

  • EWF ARE MY FAVORTIES. i am a 60's child, so i saw them in D.C. IN THE 70'S. They are still rockin!!!!!!! I SEE THEM ON MY BIRTHDAY WHENEVER THEY ARE NEAR. I'M AN AC,NJ GIRL

  • The sound like a machine with a soul in it.

    Pure brilliance.

  • THe BADEST group sound vocal horns, and they were young here... just keep getting better

  • Funk!

  • they need to remake this song!!!!

  • i love the earth wind and fire eversince.....

  • Maurice and Phillip were the perfect blend of vocals and style. You gotta love those dance moves!

  • @clbzone i know they even sound alike at times

  • The best band EVER!!!!

  • we love EW&F no matter what! The real regend!

  • can i say an Amen Yall!

    ewf for ever!

  • Real good music with that 70 vibe. Good enter action with the crowd at the EWF concerts. Peace Traestar

  • Verdine... good good.

  • VERY VERY GOOD!! EWF FOREVER!!

  • Verdine was kicking a** back in those days on bass!

On the recent videos of him playing now...not so much. : (

  • What a jammin' band, but Verdine is skinnier than me! I bet Maurice yawns musically and Phil Bailey sounds like he swalled a trumpet. Wow! We need more of this music today.

  • As a huge EW&F, I can listen to their live performances and never grow tired. Their music puts in you a good place and the lyrics are inspirational, always are. God bless Maurice White for being the phenomenal musician that he is.

  • i'm away on business sitting in my hotel room and this is just touching my soul. Man, I can never get enough of this group, I sure wish I could get a DVD with all of their live performances. Grew up with these brothers and fell in love from the first time I heard the Spirit album..hooked ever since

  • Maurice White, the heart and soul of EW &F!!!

  • i wonder if i can still walk in platform shoes? hmmm! lol! one of my favs....

  • During the 60's the voices of our people were silenced, afterwhich EWF came with a higher realm of conciousness: Veganism, Spirituality, Truth, They reigned as a supergroup impacting the whole planet universally, ushering in the Messianic age. Our people were coming of age. What state of mind would you say our children have today, in whose interest would it be for us to sleep on in decadence?

  • @SHAVAHT

So i'm the very lucky kid who's just buy a compilation CDs and listen to EWF

and loved it same as you who comes from 70s!

Just feels so sad of what today we called music which i could hardly ever listen to

    let alone enjoy it!

No.1 best music artist of all time is EWF and forever!

I'm only 16 so no chance of getting to know them directly!

  • So what killed the quality of musical artists like the ones born out of the '70s, '60s and .50's. It seems that my generation did a poor job of carrying on the tradition. But why? Is it because the synthsizer made musicans lazy? Or are there more distractions than before (like cable TV). I really would like to know what killed the quality of music. It can't simply be blamed on rap, because there are no new Led Zepplins, Eagles, Beatles or AC/DC's either.

  • @hankaaron1961 My friend, After black leaders were silenced in the 60's came EWF with a higher statae of conciousness. Veganism, spirituality, return to truth of who we really are as a people. This pacified the people, ran parallel with the beginning of the messianic age. Our people were coming out of their 400 year stupor. ask yourself in whose best interest is it for us to go back to sleep corruptly. the music that came after this era has created a degenerate mindset in the youth of today!

  • During the 60's the voices of our people were silenced, afterwhich EWF came with a higher realm of conciousness: Veganism, Spirituality, Truth, They reigned as a supergroup impacting the whole planet universally, ushering in the Messianic age. • @SHAVAHT

    God bless you

  • @hankaaron1961 what changed? the true quality of life changed. money became the anthem of the 80s. yuppies, buppies, crack! and apathy as human beings about the overall human condition. music is born of the spirit, when the spirit dies the music dies. but i wont dismiss rap. it has been a tool used to numb the soul. the question is who wields the tool.

  • @hankaaron1961

The music industry killed creativity in the music; the younger generation has conformed and intermittently agreed to be slaves to the industry. Blues, Rock, soul, rap was started by a generations that waited for no one: Especially the music industry.

  • i liked their cosmic philosophical lyrics. cool and positive - not preachy.

  • Muy buen inicio de bateria de Ralph Johnson.... debio ser siempre el baterista de EWF. Tiene muy buen estilo y talento.

  • I see they have 2 drummers,,,it seems like they would throw each other off beat. But I guess not cause it worked for them.

  • Naaa.....If you have good time...that is not a problem....James Brown did the same thing!!

  • You can spend your WHOLE life trying to be this funky - and you will fall short. Trust me! They just make it look easy. Maurice White must have been some kind of genius.

That bass player keeps that groove going even when he's kicking his legs up at the end !! Amazing !

  • JAM!!!! thanks EW&F for the many years of great music.

  • love those funky pre-disco EWF songs, :D

  • Maurice White was the session drummer for chess records and you can hear some of his best work on jackie wilsons "Your love is lifting me higher".

  • VINTAGE, FLAWLESS, LEGENDS

  • Does anyone but me think that when they say " we are the people of the sun" they are really saying " of the son" Jesus Christ, because the chorus says people of the body, which is the church?

  • They say, "we are people of the mighty, mighty people of the sun".

  • does anybody have the show when they host the midnight special . they do six songs and labelle is their guest . contact me !!! if you have the 1976 concert on video , you are a magician !!!

  • @tubagee This is the same show' unless they both did another show together. I'm looking for that one!

  • the Labelle portions should be on youtube

  • Been an EWF fan since '75. Didn't know Johnny Graham played trumpet too! All were awesome musicians!!

  • awesome tune great groove from a great band love the sound of 2 drummer's p.s for more groove check out my channel

  • I love EW&F for obvious reasons but also because their music conjures up sentimental feelings from my childhood. I was born in '68 so most of their early 70's music was out during my elementary school years and I can remember playing thier albums on my little record player and hearing my older family members playing the same albums on their big sound systems. I can remember being driven to school and listening to their songs on the radio. What sweet memories.

  • @Mshoney720

Agreed! I like EW&F for the same reasons... same generation, my friend! Sweet memories... all that nostalgia!

    And let's groove!

  • i love the OLD ewf, with Ralph Johnson on drums, the Man was F**KEN FILTHY,and of course MR. MAURICE WHITE- peace and love- lorenzo

  • @tailo59 Fred White was the drummer

  • Soul Train Dancers will forever be the only dancers 2 ever dance 2 this kind of music ...thats just final !!

  • I was just looking at a sould train clip where they were dancing to this song! You are right!

  • ty 4 your reply .and always Yes only the professional soul train dancers can dance 2 this song and many more.just look at the rest of the soul train dancers 2 many more great music on soul train and Only the soul train dancers r forever the best coz no one now can ever dance this great way agin ,unless they was born in this time. this style professional kind of dancing with their best looking style of clothes as well ...

  • oh one more thing 2 say 2 u >i have a family member couplecomes from this soul train time and i love watching them dance as a couple coz they come only from this great time of real dancing real music ... and i actually c soul train alive in my home not just clips .wow ! i get happy every time i c them dance .!

  • They could also be called! Earth Wind and POWER! Dam their music was pure energy!! on FIRE!!

  • I think i saw these guys 3 times...

    got me in the heart!!!

  • My favorite band.

  • Can anybody name a Black band that came out in the last 15 years

    Like the Ohio Players.Kool &the Gang,Slave, BT Express,Midnight Star,Earth, Wind & Fire,Gap Band,Lakeside,Isley Brothers,Brother Johnson,Chic,Change,New Birth ,L.T.D.,Commodores,Brainstorm, Ready for the World,Mandrill,Jimmy Hendricks,Mfsb,James Brown,Rolls Royce

  • Came out? as in gay?

  • on the music scene with a record deal

As the 21st Century came around, Mint Condition was the only R&B/Funk band signed to a Major Record Label. After a six year hiatus, the group resurfaced as a quintet due to former member and keyboard player Keri Lewis leaving the group to produce for other artists, such as his wife, singer Toni Braxton

  • U're a fool that's funny !!!!......

  • came out , very funny !!!!!!

  • Music change...everything don't stay the same....But most of those bands are still today touring on the road and they don't play anything New they play what made them !!...only the Isley Bro & Charlie Wilson have been recording new stuff and is it the same 2 u ?? so what's your point on your question ??

  • The ?? is name a group

THAT CAME OUT Not what old Band is still preforming

I named over 10 groups you name 2 people who preform without their bands(It's all Love)

The point is where are the new R & B bands

the New Issac Hayes.Curtis Mayfield, Quiny Jones,Teddy Riley,

The old bands have to play their old stuff no problem Well there is a problem black radio won't play their new stuff anway

Who to say it would be any good but can be any worse what out here now

    music change all right

  • i was eight ..power to the people....spread love.ooohoo

  • Yeah, that's him.

  • I got a chance to see them only once in the 70s and they were flat awesome.

Ahead of their time. Hit after hit.

  • EW&F was my first concert ever; they performed in Seattle at the King Dome, 1976 or 77. Went with my friend Carol Wright. I got a black t-shirt with the symbol on it.

  • I'd sure love to know where I can find more videos like this! :-)

  • this song is too good on live

  • This is the joint!!!

  • I haven't seen that cover in years so I forgot about that spinnig drums. I meant to say that the hi hats on "Sun Goddess" was Fred and the dynamics of course was Ralph. My personal favorite on that album. And the guitar solo by Johnny on "Shining Star what'nt bad either.

  • Yeah. I hear him on "Devotion". On "Sun Goddess" I do hear two drummers at the part after the keyboard solo when the whole band joins in. Listen to the hi hat and listen to the drum dynamics. The hi hats are constant and the dynamics (I believe is Ralph) are separate.

  • Yep.

  • Yep! If you listen to the "Gratitude" album it's easy to pick out which is who by their snare sound and the way they play.

  • From what I saw in an interview Ralph did when theyn added a dance routine it was just Maurice and Phillip and the instructor needed a third person and he picked Ralph. Ralph said that that was the last time he played drums live. This was around the late 1970s probably around when that "fateful" movie came out.

  • hey romynastore-----------give me ur contact info...i want footage from the 1970s thru the middle 1980s...anything before Maurice stopped touring esp the first 10-15 years..thanks

  • Yeah! Listen to Verdine White go!

  • These guys really know how to throw a concert!

  • What a bassline ! =D

  • Earth

  • Wind

  • and

  • FIRE!

  • every great memory I have of the 70's has soemthing to do with EWF--best band every put together!!

  • one message

  • I remember being at summer camp in '71 as a seven year old, and this song was always on BLAST all through the gym of that community center. Great, great song. An anthem in many respects. Anything by Maurice and his brothers is very close to my heart.

  • Earth, Wind & Fire fans, type the following in the search box above - Earth, Wind & Fire (1/21) - Shining stars (Documentary) Type it in exactly like that. Watch all parts & spread the word. It's a great documentary!

  • Oh, yeah! They've always been rockin' and groovin'! Keep it up! I love how they get the crowd to dance.

  • This is one of my favorite songs by Earth Wind and Fire! I heard it for the first time a few weeks ago on a "Soul Train" re-run, and I've been hooked since!

  • I did not know that they made this. But I sure did groove to this back in the day.

  • Wow...Im into Metaphysical studies...now and Im just begining to understand the deep meaning of there songs...I know its always been about Love and good feelings, but back in the day I was just singing them with out truly understanding it in my heart. Dont get me wrong you can understand the meaning of the songs..without being a metaphysician. I think this was one of the main intents of this group is to put good vibrations into the ether for the healing of the world.

  • They still kick´s ass live thou they haven´t made any goo studio album since around 1980! But live...to say the least they rocks like crazy!!!

  • PARRRRRTAYYYY!!!

  • EW&F, the funk version of Chicago!..wow.

  • What about that phat bass line? Great band.

  • Bro Verdine White on the bass Maurice White's lil Bro.

  • Oooo to the Weeeeeeee!!! Good googa-mooga! These brothers ain't playin around! I LOVE EWF! I play in a Contemporary Gospel band and these guys are standard that we try to emulate in the musical genre that we are in.

  • That's a good standard to uphold.

  • I love EWF. But can anyone tell me what was the purpose of two drummers and, later, two lead guitarists?

  • One is a drum set, the other is timbales..

  • Actually, in the back there are two full drum setups, one with Ralph Johnson working it and the other with Fred White on the throne. This recording was made at a point in time when Fred White had just joined the band, so I'm guessing that Maurice just added a second drum set to the configuration. Eventually, Freddie became the full-time drummer and Ralph moved up front with Maurice and Philip to do vocals and percussion.

  • they 're really lay'n it down,sick!

  • classic EWF

  • i had the pleasure of meeting EWF this past summer, they are the coolest dudes in the world.especially verdine.verdine and i kicked it like we knew each other for years.truly a class act,and one of the greatest bands of all-time.

  • My favorite band. They are killin it!

  • loveeeeeeeeee

  • EWF pre Phoenix horns, amazing. Classic EWF stamp of excellent musicianship with a dynamic show. I was truly born at the right time.

  • Thanks for the rare show--It is truly a treat for all of the fans who go back to the beginning.

  • Spring '74 was when this song was happenin'. I was a sophomore in high school. That use to be my song. Still love it.

  • That's right - it was 74. I saw them at the Hollywood Palladium that summer and it was right before "That's the way of the world" came out. That's what this video reminds me of. I'll never forget it. It was teh best show I ever saw!

  • and in 76 I got to see them at the Form

  • And 75 at the Hollywood Bowl too! I took a hugh cardboard poster off the wall. I wish I still had it.

  • Thanks from an italian EWF fan!

    Giacomo

  • "Walk Around, Why wear a frown? Say little people, try to put you down. What you need is a helpin hand, All is ready at your command, How's your faith? Cuz your faith is you! WHo ya kiddin, to yourself be true!" What amazing and inspirational lyrics! MY favorite band!

  • Just a minor note: "All the strength at your command" is the correct lyric.

Part of the next verse: "Whatcha gonna do 'bout your living thing? Will you make it better, or just complain? Every day is real, don't run from fear. 'Cause better days are very near. There are times when you're bound to cry. One more time -- head to the sky!"

  • yeah man! give me more!

  • This performance looks strikingly similar to their performances on Bert Sugarmann's Midnight Special(1975). Right down to Verdine's pink shirt. check it out. thanks for posting, I'm interested in any vintage EWF concerts you have.

  • IT IS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • romynastore,EWF have made life a better life! This video has just made it that little bit better still. Thank you.

  • Mighty, Mighty is the best song of earth, wind and fire.
