Doc was definitely one of Michael's favorite players. He also looked up to Walter Davis and Marques Johnson. There's a picture of MJ in college in his dorm with Marques Johnson's poster on his wall. His most favorite player though was David Thompson. All these guy's had similar quick first step games and leaping ability(though Walter Davis didn't get up as high as the other's). MJ took something from all those guys, and had his own game at the same time.
Great video my man, ANYONE with a PS3 can download my rosters on 2k10 with THESE TEAMS that play LIKE this video, and a HOST of others great rivalries, check my channel, you wont regret it. Peace. P.s. for those with other systems I'm making video's of the teams so the stats can be entered if desired of other systems, plus relive just about ALL the BESt rivalries to '87 Showtime Lakers, to '92 dream team and MORE, check description for more info, take MY legend's World's Greatest Startin' 5's
@uberathlete To a degree. But MJ didn't create his own style. A lot of his game is adopted from the smaller guards and other players. Same with James Worthy and like players that had the quick first step game. Julius during the early 70's had a quick first step game and there are plays that he had done that was never televised during his ABA career that were sick.
@epics7 I would have to disagree. MJ's style was influenced by other players no doubt, but his game and the way it was executed was so different that it became uniquely his own.
Everyone mentioning Kobe is missing the point. Jordan is talking about leaving the game with class and dignity, which I don't think Kobe has despite how great he is. If you want a list of players who continue to model themselves the way Jordan did after Dr. J then check out the guys whom Jordan specifically chose to wear his Team Jordan brand.
lebron is a hypocrite he changed from 23 to 6 because he said it was disrespectful to jordan yet he has no problem disrespecting the legend MJ used to look up to
Kobe should have taken a page from Michael in respect of Dr. J. This was EXACTLY what Kobe should have said about Michael when he came into the league.
@mmcneil777 Since when did Kobe come into this? People get mad and accuse Kobe of using MJ's moves, but now people expect him to mimic his approach towards the player he looks up to? MJ is MJ and Kobe is Kobe...they're their own person. Just like how they're different players, they also have different character.
i bet dr j's advice to mj was: young man i know ur very skilled... but when all else fails just jump over defenders, believe me they wont be able to block you hehehehe
i love the fact that doc embraced mj, & didn't distance himself from him - as other veterans did like magic, isiah & others, doc was secure n himself 2 not feel threatened by ne1 let alone michael, & it's obvious that michael truly appreciated doc's approach, especially from this clip ...
I was glad to hear this. Every one looks up to some one in their life I'm happy for MJ Dr J is some one he looks up to. There were a lot of NBA players who looked up at the DR as he slammed on them. But he never looked down on any one that's why I admire Dr J.
i look up to james, james, looks up to jordan, jordan looks up to dr j, dr j looks up to chuck norris

Lol I love how he said "Even if I don't win any world championships or MVP's..." So humble for the Jesus of basketball.

The only similarity to Dr. J MJ had was some of the dunking. But their styles are completely different. MJ created his own style.

@uberathlete Exactly. Jordan was definitely a more rounded player overall.
