Was that a VW Beetle engine? Marvellous, another one gone. I have known 3 beetles and they all caught fire. A friend had a camper van and yes that caught fire on the M6 causing a 6 mile tailback. When I was on holiday in Italy in 1973 a water cooled VW went on fire outside the hotel, in 1998 a Golf went up in the street outside at 3 o'clock in the morning. More recently a Polo went up in flames again in our street. All the incidents were caused by bad wiring routing. lets see another BUG go up.
i hate to see one wasted as well but the fact of the matter is without the engine blow and air kooled kustoms yearly flavor the profit raised for this cause would be even less. Dropin a bug in everyones ear here,we need to pump up the action next year at bugn cause ingalls show was lacking in many areas, oh by the way spook thanks for not entering that ghia in hoodride, you would have beat me out of my second placehehehehe i'll get rodney next year!!!
@nevr4getzs Thanks for the feedback. We'd love to hear any suggestions you might have for pumping up the action at the 2012 Bug'n. We were at a new location this year, so that might have caused us to loose a few folks, but overall, we were pleased with the turnout.
It wasn't that good an engine. It was found all seized up in the back of a junkyard. The crankshaft had over 1/4" of endplay in it. NOT something you'd want in your daily driver. The money raised went to charity and everyone gets a kick out of watching it.
dude get over it. not like you can change it. rather do that and give the money to charity than spend shitloads to fix it. crappy engine+crowd willing to pay=a good cause.
@Dayberry Just a Volkswagen. That little Volkswagen engine held on four minutes. A 350 chevy engine in another video only held on for One minute and fourty seconds. But it's just a volkswagen.
ac vw engines kick ass. i'v wrapped my 1904 to probably 6500 rpm daily, and it shows no sign of stopping. been through drag racing, and burnouts, and just daily driving for a wile. gotta love the vw's
This year was the second year it was run again. I don't know if it's up to the cause again next year. We never put any real money into it, just whatever discarded part that's lying around that would get it going again.

yeah, might be, but I think that you can fix ANY engine thats still able to run, and as you see, this did.

It started to speed up just before seizing.
When side of piston gets molton it must slip better for a couple of seconds then cool a bit the seize solid?

You could probably rebuild it again and run it in a bug for the next ten years. lol
