Really don't see too much point in GPU folding. They use considerably more power and give lower research value, making them a bad proposition when looking at PP/W and PP/$.
My 2600K at 4.4GHz regularly gets 30K PPD on smp8. It'd take two GTX 560 Ti to match it, and they'd pull around 400W at the wall while my 2600K only pulls 125W. I guess the benefit is that it's more convenient.
I was wondering if anyone can fold for my school.....its one of my projects and im supposed to go around and ask people to do it, but thats just way to hard soooo many go away's...........so i was wondering if anyone can fold for me just till 100,000 doesnt seem like to much........well here it is
Darn it...I have everything but the resistors...and there isn't a Radioshack near where I live...shucks x(
Oh well...
Is there an alternate way (if at all) to make this multi-GPU client work without the need of resistors? I'm currently running only one, which is ok for now.
The "-gpu x" command alone doesn't do very much without tricking the plug.

folding@home is a research project where your computer (along with everyone else's) with basically help each other break down the work load of medical research so we can understand the folding of proteins folding. Which will key in finding cures for cancer and many other illnesses.
There are MANY "@home" projects out there, you actually can choose which project(s)to contribute to. E.g. SETI@HOME (Search for extraterrestrial intelligence @ Home).
mate, if ya just have a single GPU X2 card do both video outputs need to have something connected or do dual GPU cards fold fine on both GPUs with only one monitor connected?
trubrit i got it to work. after many months of fidgeting, its now completed two work units without crashing. i overclocked the memory to 1000 mhz, and underclocked the gpu clock from 770 to 750. i have no idea how this solved it, but it did. yay!
F@H runs simulations of proteins, the tiny little molecules in our bodies that cause many different things, sometimes however, it goes wrong, and the proteins do the wrong thing.
doesn't it say on the F@H website how to enable multiple clients on one of their FAQs? its like add -gpu N (N standing for numbers 0-3 depending on how many gpus you have)
or do yuo have to do the same thing like you did in the video
becuase right now i have a 9600gt and im going to get a evga gtx 260 core216 ssc and i wanna keep my 9600gt as my dedicated physx / folding gpu and i dont use the tray client i use the console ones because its more efficient and you get more ppd
NO that is Points Per Day. Rather than judge someones folding performance in Work Units, which would be unfair due to the difference in size and complexity of particular WUs, it makes more sense to assign a points system that awards more for more effort and less for less.

only if you the kind of person who turns your computer off when you aren't using it. Also think of the money spent on electricity as charity. not only are you dedicating time to find cures for many diseases but also money. When you run different Cards fold at the same time, it reduces the PPD, last I remember.
bob333336 2 years ago
It doesnt anymore if it did before, if you get 8000 a day with one gpu then three cleints on 3 gpus will give you 24k a day.
