  • 3:30 to 3:40 he has a boner

  • what a great suit

  • 55 people don't know how to "cool it".

  • He really learned a lot when he was working at the magic shop at Disneyland, didn't he? ;-)

  • who knew he would become a stand up comedy fad

    even the hippies get it

  • hold on, some of steve is on the smothers brothers dvd's

    i dont remember seeing this

but the CLAPPING one handed thing is on

maybe this isnt re issued yet...this part here...

  • Could someone please post the anti-war song "I'm Just An Orphan Of World War Two," from the Smothers Brothers?

  • holy cow the smothers brothers too!

  • Aside from color in his hair, the genius of Steve was evident even then!

  • any1 know what yr this was

  • it all about tricks

  • u suck °__0

  • An old lady told me I looked like an young Steve Martin the other day.

  • Why does this take so long to load at 360p?

  • I'm pretty sure The Amazing Jonathan did a trick similar to this..

  • @killswitchred19 yea...thats the thing about magicians. They use a lot of the same tricks. Just with different presentations. Thats why i lost interest in doing magic and have started to learn to write comedy. Its much more of an artistic expression than magic i think. Magic is like cookie cutter art. Just slap your personality onto a pre-made trick.

  • @acebrawler73 ya, that's true for most bad magicians. the good ones create and develop their own material. most magicians get their start hanging out in a magic shop, and the goods ones branch out and produce original effects.

  • @acebrawler73 sounds like u got stuck in a magic shop, magic cart, or online magic shop and haven't seen or experienced magic beyond that. magic you find sold commercially on the market to the public is completely different from what is peformed and produced on the magic circuit, scene, conventions, etc.

  • The first half of this was his act when he was playing SF coffee houses to next to no one just a few years before this.

  • anyone noticed that the audience was just a tape that was played over and over again ? :P

  • First time i see him with brown hair

  • fushigi!

  • It's really too bad he went into more movie roles and got away from the comedy.

  • @kingslice75 well at least his books are AMAZING

  • Huh...so that's what he looks like without white hair.

  • My favorite Steve Martin movie is Bowfinger. What a comic genius ! There's only one Steve Martin...fortunately or unfortunately. Of course, with that banjo, he's also a great musician. He was my generations funny guy. Back when comedy was clean & fit for most of the family (except Red Fox). He's like Steve Allen, Jackie Gleason, Charley Callas & Chaplin all rolled into one. Long live Steve Martin !

  • How can something he did in the 70's make up for something he did in the 00's? That's a complete fail when it comes to logical thinking, me hearties

  • This still doesn't make up for the Pink Panther...nothing will.

  • @vicavox or the Pink Panther II: a sequel no one asked for from a remake no one needed to do.

  • Steve is great in this and he does a killer zombie. I've added this to my favourites. Thanks.

  • how the hell did he do the trick with the floating ball?

  • @ritzbitz00 small rod u can see when he turns the cloth around

  • @ritzbitz00 If I tell you the secret would you give me $1,000 USD?

  • Wow! He was young?

  • ahahaha that 70's hair. oh steve!

  • @ 3:30 its just his boner

  • OMG the clothing colors back then. Earth tones, ugh! Bright yellow shirt and brown suit. I've don't recall ever seeing him with very dark hair. I like his grey hair tho now. Thanks for posting.

  • Wasn't that Big Hair ahead of it's time?

  • Steve Martin is fantastic, but that may very well be the ugliest tie ever!!!

  • hahahha,,,,,,,,,,,,,very funny.........love him

  • He should do a limited city standup tour. he's given up standup, but he should go back to it for like a month. donate all the proceeds to charity or something. charge like $200 a ticket. make a dvd.

  • um.. while im waiting for me i'd like to..

  • He looks a bit like John Fogerty and Han Solo

  • Steve Martin is one of the true geniuses of comedy.

  • the thing about Steve Martin is that in many cases, he's the only guy that can make something funny. Other comics may try to do these "stupid humor" gags, (e.g. tongue through a napkin) but mostly it just ends up as a groaner, and personally I really can't figure out whats so different. But I suppose there are many who groan at Steve Martin.

  • Who is that lady in the front with navy blue jacket? Everyone seems to be paying attention to her. Girlfriend?

  • hahaha :D

  • his hair did a magic trick

  • Omg he has dark hair!!!!!

  • whoa, brown hair steve lol

  • @GrahamHorgan

Steve Martin- a magician, comedian, actress, composer, philosopher, musician.

  • @CBasie2856 actor, not actress

  • @SuperShortlife

thank you for correcting me superman ;)

  • @GrahamHorgan

Steve Martin- a magician, comedian, actress, composer, philosopher, musician.

  • I wonder if the carpet

  • Kfumike, good post -- you're right about him. Most of my life, I was not aware of how far his talent is spread. I'll have to check out that autobiography...

  • quality!

  • Just read his autobiography, "Born Standing Up."

  • he os not thta good

  • "Return,Return.Return.Return You Fool" haha lol maked my stomach burst

  • Hilarious.

  • ahh so funny

  • Met him at a hotel in L.A., 1978. Would not admit who he was. We were both registering for rooms.

  • i didnt knew steve martin is a magician

  • Are those the Smothers Brothers?

    Wow.

  • He always amazes me/ his showmanship.

  • Steve Martin: Poet, juggler, screenplay writer, musician, comedian, actor, philosophy student, playwright, author, magician....the man is a genius; truly a Renaissance man. Read his autobiography "Born Standing Up", it's an enlightening and entertaining read. And then go out and buy his latest CD of Banjo/Bluegrass music called The Crow.

  • awesome shirt

  • outstanding

  • Just read his autobiography. It's crazy seeing this stuff that he spoke about.

  • HAHAHAHA, the candle trick was awesome, and hilarious!!

  • I at one time went to the bathroom with steve nothing gay just pooping and man did he smell!

  • Tommy Cooper RIP

  • Classic!!!

  • RETURN.... YOU FOOL!

  • So he HAD black hair once? :D

  • @bansaraba haha my first thought :D

  • @bansaraba ur fuckin dum

  • @JabbatheCunt241 You surpass me, Cunt! Look in the dictionary at J for Joke!

  • @bansaraba No. Actually he was born with gray hair. He dyed it for this performance.

  • This and Little Shop of Horrors are the only two times I've seen him without whit hair. But I think it was a wig in LSOH.

  • This is 1968, Steve was 23; By the mid seventies, his hair was going white.

  • Hilarious!

  • wow steve martin PG - Pre- Gray

  • just read his autobiography, such an amazing man

  • reminds me ALOT of the amazing johnathan's so called "tricks" it seems they go for more of a comedy aspect than an actual magic one.

  • First time I see him with black/brown hair. I've always been confused about his age because his hair has been white since first time I saw him in the 80s but his face is so smooth.

  • Great stuff here. Also a reminder of when E! was a good channel. Sadly it has gone down the toilet like every other channel and just shows garbage now. Steve Martin also wrote material for other performers on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour as well as performing.

  • @storrs19 u 2

  • I'm reading Martin's autobibliography at the moment. It's fun to see the tricks he told about :)

  • So I was right. That WAS gray hair in 1977. My mom used to tell me, "no, he's just blonde."

  • He powdered it to look funny.

  • I met Tommy and Dick just last summer. They're really nice, down to earth guys!

  • Holy shit... He doesn't have white hair!!!!!

  • WELL!! excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse!!!!!!!!meeeeee!!!!!

  • Classic Steve Martin, still very funny to watch.

  • smothers brothers!!! =D

  • 3:35. lmao!

  • what year was this from, I for some reason thought his hair was always white lol

  • this was when he was still working with bob einstein right?

  • ROTFLMAO! amazing when all TRULY funning people needed was simple funny comedy, no crude and vulger, etc.

  • Comment removed

  • nice spelling.

anyways steve martin did plenty of crude and vulgar acts. they were hilarious.

and he was actually complex anticomedy, not simple funny comedy.

    learn you some steve martin.

  • WOW! i know i posted this another Steve Martin video but it's amazing how young he is, with dark hair, and handsome. i'm 27 so only ever knew him in The 3 Amigos and Father of the Bride, etc. Good stuff :)

  • creo que es la primera vez que le veo sin canas jajaja

I thinh that ist the first time that I see him without grey hair XD

  • Five stars! <3

  • ha siktir lan

  • It's so neat seeing him before he was a star. His comedy uses irony really well, he's a unique talent. Thanks for posting this...it's great!

  • @BisexualsRBeautiful its so neat seeing him with brown hair!!

  • No lo tenia a Steve Martin de Mago! Que capo! jajaja!!

  • HAHAHHAH .. I LOVE HIM <333

  • your father shouldn't get SMAAAALLLLLL before he cleans windows. and plus..he was in a MOVIE called the Jerk. shouldn't that have been a warning?

  • You lose!

  • It's headed for the john!!!

  • hahahahahahahahhahaahahahhhahahhahahahahhahahhahahahahahhahahhahhahahahahahahhahhahhahahahhahaahahhahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahhahaahahahhhahahhahahahahhahahhahahahahahhahahhahhahahahahahahhahhahhahahahhahaahahhahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahhahaahahahhhahahhahahahahhahahhahahahahahhahahhahhahahahahahahhahhahhahahahhahaahahhahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahhahaahahahhhahahhahahahahhahahhahahahahahhahahhahhahahahhahhahhahahahhahaahahhahahahhahaahahhahahahahahhahahahahaahahahahahaaha

  • holy cow he had dark hair!

  • and thre weeks l8r it was white lol jk

  • Shit, it's like he was born with white hair!

  • @RememberTheEighties did u think he had gray hair all his life?

  • steve martin is a wild and crazy guy!

  • Steve Martin was a writer for the Smothers Brothers?

  • he was. and i think he wrote for the tonight show too. and he had a lot of experience in stage performance that he got at disneyland or somewhere.

  • OH MY GOD. he looks so young i cant even believe it. i thought he might always have had white hair. lol, just because he had it in roxanne. but BOY DOES HE LOOK DIFFERENT. sure has changed

  • he got white hair really early in his life

  • totally orginal. thanks for posting.

  • hilarious hilarious hilarious hilarious hilarious

  • he looks like daxflame

  • The Amazing Jonathan did that same exact trick at the end. With a modern twist.

  • comic genius

  • "pragmatic metaphysics"

lol, that probably went over most people's heads. Shame too, it's so witty!

  • Doesn't Steve have a degree in philosophy? Good thing for us he didn't pursue that.

  • Steve's my hero. He's so clever.

    It's the straight face.

  • When they joke about not paying Steve, they might be right. Steve can only afford one outfit. If you check out Steve's appearance on the Dating Game (also on YouTube) he is wearing the same suit, shirt and tie!

  • Does anyone know how he pulled off the magic napkin trick not just once, but, twice? I am completely and totally baffled by it!

  • It was obviously a gimmicked napkin, there's no way anybody can do that.

  • Do you even know what magic IS?

  • Do you even know what sarcasm IS?

  • That makes no sense. Explain if you can. Because, that wasn't even sarcasm. Now don't be a pussy.

  • See? Aren't jokes a lot less funny when you have to explain them to people on the internet who think they're smarter than you?

  • That wasn't even the trick I was thining of. But the hankerchief trick I was thinking of.

  • Well that's awful funny because we were clearly talking about napkins. Pay more fucking atteton before you start trying to be smart.

  • Apparently Arubans speak English, but are also pussies. I guess You need education too though. But you're a weirdo douche. I accept your apology. ok? Make sense now? Ifyoucan.

  • Oh, when I tried to make sense I didn't make any sense so now I'll purposefully not make sense so it seems like I was never trying to make sense in the first place.

Seriously dude, that's like the oldest trick in the book. Go away nao.

  • McNew - Do you really have to use such foul language? Its rather hurtful to all involved

  • Welcome to the internet my friend.

  • I am trying to improve standards. Will you help?

  • Check out the actor Paul Schneider on IMDB. He looks like he can be Steve Martin's son.

  • he actual once had dark hair. seems like he was born with grey

  • Maybe he was-- he might be wearing a wig!

  • OH MY GAWD! He HAS BROWN HAIR!

  • The Smothers Brothers ... like Steve, were so far ahead of their time.... it is like the Beatles... culture needs time to appreciate the insights.

Remarkable insights, era defining ( AKA: cutting edge ), comedy. Rowan and Martin, Carol Burnett, Tim Conway & Harvey Korman, etc... EXACTLY like premium Rock and Roll, after retrospect... A paradigm shift in entertainment and comedy direction.

Also: the GREAT Flydini: he trick is the left hand is a fake, the arm/hand is in the coat.

    So FU&*ING cool

  • i think its because everything in todays culture of entertainment is just a rehash of the 70s to the early 90s, and now theres nothing new, its just half assed repetitions of greatness, and you can be an entertainer so long as you have money, instead you used to have to be good.

  • Man, Martin was on "10" from Day One!

  • omg this is awesome i just read him talking about all these tricks and gags in his bio. "born standing up"

  • omg i love him ....wow hes really young there

  • what's with that laugh in the audience, someone sounds like a donkey with bronchitis- about every 30 seconds or so...

  • how does he do the napkin trick? i dont understand

  • Magic.

  • have anybody heard of his song "king tut"

  • Yes. It's an old sketch Martin did on Saturday Night Live. You should be able to find it somewhere.

  • watch his right hand.

  • The ball is attached to a stick. When he flips it around to show the back, you can just see it at the top

  • An oldy but a goodie. lol

  • I always enjoy these types of vids. Two well known comedians introduce to the world an unknown with ultimately far greater talent. A rare look at a comic genius.

  • steve martin is a totall enigma to me, brilliant but unplaceable

  • i'm reading his autobiography Born Standing up and this is super cool to see cause he does all of the stuff that he said he did in the book
