Great videos, sir! I recently upgraded my equipment, although I committed the unpardonable sin of crossing over from a Nikon D200 to a Canon 7D. No doubt the resolution and ISO noise levels are better but I think the D200 did a better job focusing, especially in low light. I also have the Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 and I love it; it performs as well as Canon's L lens at 1/3rd the price. Anyway, keep it up! Are you going to buy the D800? (I might have to switch back over at some point, darn it!)
You can get a sharp shot @200mm with the sigma at 1/10 second so I'm not sure how you managed to get such monumentally bad results. The stabilizer works brilliantly for photos (less so for video). Mode 1 stabilizer? Did you wait for the image to stabilize before pressing the shutter? And I would have taken 2 shots each time to help eliminate random user errors.

Hi.. I have a Nikon d7000.. And I'm planning to buy a macro lense.. What lense can u recommend??? What is the use of 50mm f1.8 and 70-200mm f2.8 lense???
The 70-200 isn't heavy enough to damage the body of the higher end Nikon camera's, on Canon always use the lens collar because most of their camera's are built from plastic, I think the 7D is the cheapest that has a metal body. The D7000 as far as I am aware is the lowest with a metal body.
@TheEMPIRED He said he usually would but if he used the tripod collar the shots would change, so he used the camera body's tripod mount so all the shots would remain the same.
A professional should be able to whip up a model for next to nothing, why are you always using trees, teddy bears and signs you fool? You make me sick. Stop misinforming people just because you can't get any real work. Douchebag.
@Barnyrubbleism thanks for taking the time to watch and comment on so many of my videos - and for your concern about my business! (Things are going great btw) Clearly you would prefer I list previous clients on the website, and use models in my reviews instead of objects. Unfortunately, I don't do that. Generally I don't do head to head lens comparisons when it would take up others time as well as my own.
I hope you don't mind I copy the same response onto all of your comments.

@thatnikonguy Your outdoors where the sun slips in and out of the clouds, you don't lock up the mirror, you don't use a remote and your shooting a dark tree for Gods sake. You are so stupid you disgust me. Why don't you try consistant lighting, proper sharpness chart and how about some MTF graphs. You know like a real test?? Do you even know how AF works douchebag? Do you know the AF speed will change depending on in camera settings? Stop pretending to be a photographer tool!!
@Barnyrubbleism Welcome back! For someone who doesn't like my videos, you sure have watched a lot. I think you have made your point, I will leave your comments up so that people can take your warning about following my advice, or not. But that is enough negativity now, I am blocking your account.
Has anyone been to mattgrangerdotcom? It's soooo crap. A professional your NOT matt so stop misinforming people, some will be stupid enough to waste their money. You don't even know how to support a lens on a tripod properly, or lock up the mirror and use a remote. If your going to do joke reviews make it clear, so people here are fairly new to photography. By the way there isn't one real commercial client listed on your website, stop it you fraud!!
*runs back in WTF also a macro lens ... NOT TRUE it is only a 1:3 ratio true macro is 1:1 and above come on Nikon guy by more specific *cancels subscription I may not be a pro but know the difference
LMFAO great reviews BUYT why oh why oh why not spend the time to mount them properly yer poor poor camera having to suck up the weight f the lens on the mount ... when one is provided by manufacturer to spread the weight
Hi, superb and very useful work , keep it coming. I noticed when you used your flash in the group dining shots in the video, it had a bluish shade to it. Is there any particular reason to use a blue gel or is it the video camera's white balance not registering correctly. Thanks again.
Do you think it would perform well in continuous aircraft AF video tracking, like at an air show? On a Sony A77 for example.
I can't find this freaking information anywhere. You review is really great, but like a lot of reviews, there is no video test... Hope you'll have some time to anwer
great review, even though I'm a Canon user I have been looking at the Sigma for the last 2 weeks, the comparisons and in-depth testing you have made has made my budget conscious decision making even easier. The Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 OS HSM will be my next lens purchase. Thanks Matt!
Hey Matt, greetings from your Kiwi cuz. Any chance you could test the new
Sigma 120-300 2.8 HSM OS? This lense seems to generate a lot of interest , myself included but there's not much hands on info out there yet. JaredPolin done a test but it left more questions than answers. Maybe some decent AF speed tests along with sharpness to confirm if it's a true sports contender.
Hi Matt thanks for you response and look forward for the final part.. however, just a quick question.. which one would you suggest me to go for.. Sigma with OS or Tamron does not have VC. Sigma with OS is somewhere around 1200 USD. Honestly I am I am confused. Please advise, I own a Nikon D90 also please advise your views on Nikon D90. Thanks
HI Matt great review.. very precise and informative.. I saving money for a very long time to buy this lens.. cant afford Nikon.. so I guess would have to settle for Sigma with the OS version.. I believe Sigma has an edge over Tamron.
You're a pro photographer, you do whatever you want. but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE if at all possible, use the lens' tripod mount instead of the camera body's. That's putting a big percent of the setup's weight towards the front and that could warp the connections or worst case scenario just snap and fall off the tripod one day. I wouldn't wanna see that happen to you at all. My friend the other week dropped his d700 and lens and i nearly broke down in tears for him :( . Just sayin..careful!!!
Thanks for great series of review. I think I'm gonna save up for the Nikon one. Fast focus in low light is important to me. Btw, do you own all these camera bags? I thought I have many until now :)
I used the Nikon 70-200 briefly a few weeks ago, one thing that caught me out was the lens foot. It just seems to be right in the way of the zoom ring. Maybe i was just holding it wrong? :)
i really like the lens comparisons that you do it does help us chose one over the other. It helped me pick the nikon 50mm 1.8 over the 1.4 don't see a need to spend that much more money.
I admire your enthusiasm and your hard work to find time to do all this reviews, behind the scenes videos and etc. Matt you rock bro. Keep them coming. :-)
Hey Matt, I don't comment too often on videos (bad habbit) but I have to say that I really appreciate the time you're putting into making and uploading yours. Next to Digital Rev, you are my most watched photog channel. Jared Polin is... How do I say? ... Annoying and amateur-esque.
See that is where Tamron and Sigma roll in, price..some of their lenses are really really good for the price. Yes less then first brand but. But allot less in price to and you know there is a difference between a pro photographer and a person who wants just a bit better then usual.
i take it that since the tamron is slow focasing that it would NOT be recommended for sports?
