he can be pretty dumb sometimes like one time he fell off my bed and banged his head on the dresser but u know what he did he got rite back up and started wagging his tail

I've never tried that. Our Peruvian does that on dry land... even in his crate -- acts like he's digging to China or something. I'll have to try this with a kiddie pool... and remember to shoot it.

Funny, my PWD, Arlo does exactly the same behavior in a kiddie pool, and with a bowl of water outside.

This is really a great breed.

being firm with a PWD will get you no where. They see through it, all they think is "whats your problem? being so rude!"

Just say come in any other voice you use.

find out what motivates them! for some its food or for others its praise.

hello, i just had to put down my german shepherd it was really tough. Now I'm getting a portugusse water dog, can any of you tell me some information that could be helpful for when i get one???

They are really smart! I've lived with them since I was born and they are like sibilings.

Its like raising a child. Keep that in mind.

Clementine:We adopted puppy in March who is now 8 months old. I'm quite certain he's a PWD (or PWD mix). He has all the physical characteristics...wavy coat, doesn't shed, long back, flipped over ears, big webbed feet, etc. From what I'm reading, he has a PWD temperament as well. He's VERY smart and energetic (must have daily walks/physical exercise)..and I'm having to be VERY consistent in training. (I let one thing go once--and it's 3 days of retraining.) Do you have any tips?
