  • My favorite is drunk fish try breathing air! Hahaha dftba;)

  • I have just recently started watching these videos and I regret not checking them before..But, what in the world does "DFTBA" mean?

  • @carl7342 Darling, fetch the battle axe.

LOL, NO JK, it means "Don't Forget to be Awesome"

  • @RyanMurphyTube

I'm just starting that too! So far I've been having fun.

    DFTBA

  • Five years ago today!

  • 30th c: DFTBA

  • If only they'd used that kind of story problem in my Algebra classes *Sigh*

    DFTBA. Love your awesomenessness.

  • First time we see Hanks awesome math nerdyness.

  • i decided to watch every vlogbrothers vid ever made wish me luck

  • @soulartistRiSK I'm doing that too :) So good. Including SciShow, crash course, hank games... the list goes on.

  • haha calculus book throwing

  • yes, but did the sundial calculate for daylight savings?

  • whoa I would have never figured out how to calculate that.

  • ahahaha half-life equations

  • God I love these guys

    (yes slightly homo)

  • That neighborhood reminds me of Dexter. :P

  • I LOVE the nerdiness going on in this video. I'm more of a John-type nerd, and I wish I could calculate that kind of stuff...

  • watching them all!

  • This was on my birthday.

  • He's starting to talk fast.

  • But... if half of the people die at 83, half of them already died at 57! >.<

  • This seems to be the first incarnation of the Thoughts from Places series....

  • Charlotte County? Really? Wow, I live in Charlotte County now (but in New Brunswick, Canada) and there are TONS of old people here also!!! :)

  • I love your math.

  • This video was made on my birthday!

  • How do you know which side of a napkin is the back?

  • Harry Potter was a B-O-N!

  • that neighborhood looks alot like what tobuscus lazy vlogged in when he was in florida!

  • Hank is good at math...John well not so much (sorry John but you know it's true).

  • watching al vlogbrother videos and am up to here :L X

  • the beginning of speed talk :)

  • Banana trees? Banana's don't grow on a trees!

  • @iGark

Thanks to your comment I learned that bananas are actually berries!

    What?!?!

  • commenting to help out the vlogbros!

  • I used math to find the speed of dark...it's 2 hours

  • :) I'm glad no one died

  • going a little Canadian, eh Hank?

  • 29 vid cmnt

  • Omgosh! My grandparents are currently in Englewood FL.... like seriously.... SWEET!

  • that really is what florida looks like. canals, orange trees, banana trees, the houses, and the old people.

  • i wish i could grow oranges

  • old people half lives? lol

  • I suck at math, and so you lost me at the first calculation. Then I stopped trying to get it after the fifth calculation.

Also, I thought everybody knew that all old people go to Florida for retirement. Florida is like the Old People State.

  • How could the average death age of a person aged 70 be not 70? They would have passed 70 to die and thus would no longer be aged 70.

  • He means that the average age of death for someone born in the year 1937 (making them 70 in 2007) would be 83, hence, the average age of death for someone who was then currently 70, would be 83.

  • Thank you for clarifiying.

But, how could the average age of death for someone born in 1937 be 83 if none of them had reached 83 yet because they were obviously born in 1937?

The only way I figure is that he was talking about the average human death age, applied to someone born in 1937. Is that right?

  • It's not so much the age of death so much as the life expectancy, based on factors like healthcare in the person's lifetime, wars, morality rate, diseases in the area, etc. The government can estimate, based on these factors and a census, what the average lifespan will be for a person will be when s/he is born in a certain year and area. Though Hank's math is clearly off, he has the right approach, to an extent. Does that clear it up?

  • Definitely, Thanks :)

  • Hank did not just apply the average human death age. Given that someone has already lived to age 70, the average age at which that person will die is greater than the average death age. i.e. The average life expectancy takes into account everyone who died *before* age 70 and those who died after age 70. If we know someone has lived to age 70, they'll live longer than the global average age. Therefore he's using the average life expectancy for people who are at least 70, disregarding birth year.

  • What kind of instruments are those? Skinny-neck acoustic guitars?

  • They were playing Banjos

  • *Dreamy Sigh* I love you Hank Green! <33

  • you must have been seriously seriously bored to do all that...wow rather intresting acutally :D

  • It's weird videos of Hank in them before he starts singing...

It's like watching episodes of Dragonball Z before Goku starts turning Super Saiyan

  • you would have killed one of those people with the brotherhood 2.0

  • hahahah.

  • It shouldn't have been "badly" it should have been "poorly".... Grammar Nerdfighter moment

  • bahahahhaha.

  • you lost me with the calculations. you sounded really really smart though xD

  • The 2nd, or is it the 3rd, mathematical fail of B2.0. No worries! It doesn't take away from the awesome.

  • Hank, I bet you could do the whole survey 3 times over in 3:30 at the speed you talk now! haha

  • Why is it that you're way better at math than you brother? Cool flaminigo!

  • OMG a Spartan old person lol. I never noticed that one banjo guy's MSU hat until just now, but then, I was never at MSU watching these videos until now.

  • comment 28: that's a really funny calculation!!

  • BON calculations XD my dad does those!

  • 31. "were any of them going to die... while i was watching them?" god i love hank.

  • 31: "half life of an old person" is an extremely interesting phrase. I like it.

  • 28: "People are looking at me funny." I actually laughed out loud. And that microwave sounds just like mine.

  • old people with banjos ftw

  • he he, the start of Hank speaking fast XD

  • Comment 29: Why are you good at maths and your bother is crap?

  • How exactly do you define the back of a napkin? A blank napkin has no front or back, but if it has a logo (I'm thinking nerdfighter in a nice, big font splashed across a side of the napkin) then I guess it does indeed have a back.

  • you make my day.

    hehe.:)

  • I like old people. They have crazy stories and tell people to get off their lawns.

True story:My neighbor across the street growing up actually did yell at me and my dog to get off his lawn...and then my dog peed on it.

  • Englewood Florida looked really nice. The maths problem on Napkin looked cool yeah. I probably wont be able to do that lol.

  • That math problem is something that I would do...at any given time, even if I wasn't bored...ha

  • 30 down. I like old people, they're so nice... Except for the ones that well, aren't.

    Lunch break!

  • lol... I think you must have been REALLLY bored! My friend Eric does math for fun, like that, too...

  • that's charlotte county for you. :P

  • 28! (Comment, that is): I can testify to the old person thing . . . I now live in Flordia (previously Buffalo, NY), and their are old people E VER RY WHEEEEEERE!!!! God . . . I'm just waiting for the life-altering moment where I am forever emotionally scarred when some old person collapses over the counter at McDonalds, and I become a shut-in, curled in a fetal ball in the corner of my room rocking back and forth until I'm 46 and my midlife crisis kills me. Anyways, next comment, no. 29!

  • MY HEAD HURTS!

  • the avrage age of death of 70 years old poeple is 83 lol

  • guess what.....i was eating a corndog while watching this video.....0.o

  • kudos on the BON calculations

  • I do B.O.N. calculations all the time.

  • Word up to the old banjo player in the Michigan State hat!

    Go Green!

  • GO WHITE! =O

  • go michigan!

  • LOVE this video, Hank. It still makes me laugh!

  • as much as i love old people, they make me nervous. they are way too fragile

  • Old people creep me out.

  • Old people are depressing. They just make you think about thingsss... especially the really sweet old people that need help to get around and stuff... it's just really saddening... luckily Hank Greene's awesomeness far outweighs the depressingness of 400 old people! Which is saying a lot, mind.

  • I SPELLED GREEN WRONG! CURSES! I feel like a terrible person now!! Just had to fix my mistake.

  • will you tutor me in geometry?:D

    haha

  • uhhhgg! is there a reason as to why this video takes so long to load!?

    must...watch!

  • this video takes FOREVER to load!!!!! I WILL NOT REST UNTILL I WATCH IT!!!! lol :D

  • wow... this video is taking forever to load for me for some reason... but I WILL watch it

  • Interesting math. I've wondered the same thing when I come home to see the family, just didn't have the math to figure it out.

  • B.O.N!

  • illustration of how bored u where was.. hehe.. great

  • lol haha good maths bro . u funnier than yor bro hahah. nintendo

  • ... back o' napkin!

  • I was very surprised to see that there were only 18 comments! So I decided to comment too. Except my problem is is that I actually don't have anything to say...Hmm...Your video was funny! Yea...

  • interesting. i'm sure this has been theorised already...as this video is more than 10 months old (I'm playing catchup)

What event might there be with a death chance of greater than 0.53% when in attendance?

Pamplona bull running is too safe

A guy died in a nightclub I was in.

  • and you say you aren't mathematicians....

  • why does this....remind me of .... reunions..

  • ionteresting topics in your video. lol. but i liked it all the same.

  • lol napkin and sundial

  • haha, non-traditional pink flamingos!!

  • This is kind of odd. It really is 11 now. =D

  • I think he had a better chance of getting someone to poop in his pants at that event than seeing someone die. Wait... Depends undergarments... OMGoodness.

  • Excellent job on the calculations! BON's are my favorite too.

  • Lots of old people together in one place scare me...>,>

  • aw... they looked at him funny!!

  • lol the mecca of old people

  • now that was some fanstastic math work!! and surprisingly scary news too... 0.53% chance... thats way higher than winning the lotto... yikes!!

  • Well, as you will learn if you watch the next day's video, hank's math was actually massively wrong. :)

  • i did watch, and have been watching =)

i started at the beginning after seeing Accio D. H. i'm now on march 7th and working towards present day.

  • E-Wood represent. I enjoy living here, despite the incredible density of old people. As a young person in Englewood, it is my duty to attempt to make it a little cooler. And it is not easy.

  • <small> well, most people who are around me die. Hence jackie being a major caution in the ecosystem. i suggest standing 10 feet away or more.

  • lol .. still loving this project ,,

    you guys are truely entertaining
