  • I like the video, I don't think the bitch was necessary.

  • how about fire can they withstand that?

  • good work, but

    1. 10-20 yrs later, how's rotting going to affect the straw?

    2. They did not collapse, YET. If a poor person goes thru 1 earthquke, then fails to repair, or just patches cosmetically, will it hold up in earthqake #2, or 3, like they had in Chile? You might give them a false sense of security. Run the simulator till it fails, so you know the outcome.

  • @light4darkness

    1. Put adobe around the straw bales and you have a perfect material to absorb and distribute any moisture.

  • Actually magnusalexa, the use of straw is quite fire resistant. As hard as it may be to believe, it's true.

  • @britlit101 nope...

  • @kkage2 I found a website, quite reputable, TLC.com, that describes the resistance of strawbale homes to fire. But according to them a study was conducted by the Research Council of Canada and to my surprise found that strawbale walls resisted temps as high as 1850 degrees fahrenheit for TWO HOURS. Cool, huh!! But the reason is simple, according to TLC the straw is tightly compacted together which reduces the amount of oxygen between the straw. And we all know fire needs oxygen to burn.

  • @britlit101 same as if you take a BBQ lighter, and put the end in a container of gasoline, so the end is completely submerged, and attempt lighting it, it will still spark in the gas, but the gas will not light because there is no oxygen..

  • building homes in pakistAN WITH STRAW IS A FIRE RISK WAITING TO HAPPEN

  • you are the problem with your narrow mind set. It's about saving lives not your political bullshite!

  • Wtf you talking about man?

  • but the big bad wolf might blow it down

  • Sorry the little pigs just forgot to stucco!

Starting my straw bale house next week!

And let the priairie winds blow, and know I don't have to worry about the ground shaking! Excellent work!

  • Amazing, people saw a need for this and set out making it happen. Looks like they were pleased with themselves seeing the result, and they should be pleased. Much respect.

  • Aaahhh... But is it fire resilient as well?

  • you can really see the blood and tears this women has put in this project through her eyes! its heart warming to see this much passion for such a noble cause. Bravo Darcey! we need more people like you

  • Looks good except for all that dust they will be choking on.

  • her voice its so annoying

  • US taxpayers paying to reinforce al-Queda's buildings.

    Marvelous.

  • i tired to type everything that is wrong with that statement..but i find its alot more simpler so just say..you are a complete moron!

  • I've not once called a comment on Youtube stupid. I've tried to look at others' opinions and weigh them against my own whether they agree with me or not. At the very least, that lets me see the other side a little better.

I can't do that with your comment. This is one of the stupidest comments ever written.

It must be amazingly comforting to have such a simple and narrow view of the world - to have a philosophy that never makes you think at all. Well done, sir. Should we invade Canada?

  • Ad hominem isn't a rebuttal.

  • None of their funding comes from the government (see website). Even if it did, "local" = cheap.

"Reinforced" - I'm sure the US Army would LOVE for Al Qaeda (please note spelling) to have "reinforced houses" made of straw.

100,000 civilian, non-terrorist men, women, and children died in the Kashmir quake. A little geography will show you that Al Qaeda is not based there.

But, to you, all research is government, all Pakistanis are terrorists, and all foreign aide is wasted. True?

  • "None of their funding comes from the government"

The University of Nevada receives no taxpayer money? Your ignorance, if genuine, is impressive.

al-Quida, al-Queda, al-Qaeda, ... journalists change the spelling every 37 seconds, genius. (It's called "Arabic".) Beyond that, you're sidestepping the point.

"Al Qaeda is not based there." -- clearly, no one knows, thanks to Democrats proudly dismantling our intel' capability "brick by brick". Regardless, you still evade the point.

  • This group lists their funding on their website. Please check that before just stating "I'm right, you're wrong." Beyond that (do I really have to explain this?), Universities don't get federal funding, specific people apply for funding for specific projects.

"Clearly..." Oh geez, don't make this Dem vs Rep. Even you know you don't like either one. But, you're wrong.

For one, it's the Taliban not Al Qaeda that's strong in Pakistan. For two, they're in the FATA. (Some of us know...)

  • "Universities don't get federal funding"

    This conversation is over.

  • LOL. Considering all the proposals and funding work I've done. Just, wow. Stay in that box and keep fighting those straw men...seems to be working out for you.

A conversation implies the exchange of ideas. I disagree that there ever was one.

  • Repeating HowTheWorldWorks quotes line-for-line isn't clever, and isn't original.

Do you really believe earthquake resistant houses are going to aid al-qaeda? Please respond I want to hear what you have to say.

  • "Repeating HowTheWorldWorks quotes line-for-line..."

Ad hominem argument isn't any less rancid when it's based on overt lies.

Do you really believe that helping the filth of Islam is going to stop their 1,400+ yr crusade against all of mankind?

  • Do you really believe every person who practices Islam is a radical fundamentalist? That's truly a horrible statement, one which Hitler would probably agree with though.

If you truly believe that the entire Islamic populace is "filth", then I recommend that you seek a psychiatrist.

THIS conversation is over, please dont reply, because your hard headedness and lack of empathy is disturbing.

  • Every person?

What if it's only 70% of the 1,500,000,000 Muslims?

Observing your illogical defense of the Islamic plague that is warring against all of mankind isn't "lack of empathy". In fact, it's sort of the opposite.

Consider protecting theologies that aren't so murderous.

  • You call me illogical but you just spouted complete nonsense. 70%? Where'd you get that number, the cavity of your anus?

"What if..." LOL you're a joke. Please, enlighten the YouTube community about the "Islamic plague that is warring against all of mankind."

And I dont protect theology, I protect common sense.

  • Your inability to understand my rebuttal to your "every person" idiocy isn't evidence of anyone else's "nonsense".

If your immaculate ignorance of the world around you is genuine, then explore the endless videos in "the YouTube community" on the topic, for starters. Don't stress yourself to read anything.

"I don't protect theology" -- no, only the world's most murderous -- Islam -- as your posts reveal. Not that you do a good job of it, but then no one can.

  • CNN reported that less than 5% of people practicing Islam are findamentalists. Im not defending Islam, Im defending the facts The only one with an "immaculate ignorance on the world around [him/her]" is you. Your level of ignorance is reflected by the statement that you think every Islamic person is a fundamentalist.

And yes, when you say something that stupid, it is definately evidence of nonsense.

  • "every Islamic person"

Again, that's "all you", as they say. Your nitwit comrade already tried to paste that hyperbole on me, and now you're both confused over your own contrivance, while boasting of your own confusions.

As for CNN, ... seriously, try a news source, and then try a metric that has a tether to reality.

  • TylerNull (6 hours ago)

"Do you really believe that helping the filth of Islam is going to stop their 1,400+ yr crusade against all of mankind?"

(in response to my question, "Do you believe every Islamic is a fundamentalist" TylerNull said, "Every person?

What if it's only 70% of the 1,500,000,000 Muslims?")

    I rest my case.

You're delusional, and what "Comrade"?, Im making my own points.

And seriously, try actually researching a subject before talking about it.

  • Eh hem. IF (BIG IF) your wild and horribly inaccurate guess were true, then 1.05 billion (15.5% of the world's population) homicidal maniacs would certainly make the world an awful place. IF that many Muslims are murderous, wouldn't this war be on a much grander scale?

  • No.

  • Hey TylerNumb Nuts, this is a video about making earthquake safe homes. Piss the fuck off and go rant your dumb-ass on some anti-Islam site.

  • what a fag get out of the US

  • Muslims & Liberals -- Life Partners

  • that hat is awesome. :p
