  • Every now and then, a performance is recorded that breaks the limits of what we thought humans can do. People screamed when Jackson did his first moonwalk on stage. Bobby Mcferrin's 1988 performance of "drive", where he sang two different notes simultaneously, shocked the audience to silence.

This flute performace was one of those reality shattering moments in history. Thank you for this upload. It is incredible.

  • is that Roger Daltrey at 2 mins?

  • sometimes is it not best to wonder how...but just sit back and enjoy

  • Matt Molly taught me how to play the flute, Thanks again sir!!

  • Outstanding!

  • 6 dislikes to Matt Molloy and Chieftains .... well ))

  • The Chieftains are the best Irish group in History.

  • @matthewosmond1984 Ah, Planxty aren´t bad as well...

  • As being cousin to the McStravicks I almost made it to Westport but then my friend broke her leg ....... guess you are still friends with our Jim (McStravick) say hello to him from me and and Mary Kelly (R.I.P.) I will be touring that part of my homeland next year and hope to gander in with my hubby for a wee bit of crack - maybe you could point me to a good B&B

  • is that laughin just after 2:25??

  • the masons apron is a very old scots tune from the 18th century called the Braes of Glenorchy.

  • I'll have what he had for breakfast thanks! Awesome!

  • but only now can a great banjo player play that tune

  • Great!

  • eh... it was alright

  • I bet he could take a big hit of crack with lungs like that.

  • the craic too, ah not bad, at all. pure magic, heaven meets earth.By the way, i believe he's a Roscommon man Ballaghadereen, i heard.

  • Impossible playing the flute like that!

  • Lol, i just tried to play this. It failed.

    Serious, he's pro :)

  • that fella has some lungs

  • The best of Irish flute playing

  • How the Hell is he doing that?

  • @GedKelly1999 he's going so fast that he's bouncing from a high note to a low note. . you can do it on violin too, but it's SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO hard O_O

  • Wonderful! How could anyone not like this!!? Stirs the Irish heart and all hearts.

  • omg!!! who disliked this???? amazing!!!!!! and there is only 1 flute, thats the beauty of irish music we don't need computers or backing tracks to achieve results!! :)

  • @goldenhair18

In fact that's the beauty of music. I love Irish music and I grown into celtic culture but all kind of traditionnal music in the world are amazing.

  • 1:52, WTF?! is he Roger Daltrey¿?!?¿

  • did we really need the cut to Roger Daltrey sitting in the corner?

  • that is amzing

  • the flute in the background makes the song. Dont be fooled.

  • @thefunnyfecker there is only one flute

  • @campfiredoug I play the flute. I hear the other flute, plus his finger movement and go to 3:48

  • @thefunnyfecker I believe Paddy Moloney was just throwing in a bit of sarcasm. There is one flute. Matt Molloy just does kick that much ass.

  • @thefunnyfecker It's just one flute! The thing is that there's a big difference when he changes between lower and upper octave, and he does it extremely often and fast.

  • Fair play to MM for pushing the boundaries on the flute!

  • its like heavy metal flute or something lol

  • Unreal!!!! I can hear it but I've no idea where he's getting that many notes from!!!! A true and absolute genius.

  • INCREDIBLE!!!

  • Thanks, this is GREAT -- Have been looking for ORIGINAL "Into the Mystic" SUNG BY Van Morrison ... I haven't found this on U-tube yet and with all you great guys out there, I'm sure someone can come up with Van Morrison originals. Thanks for your help!! (;

  • GREAT PLAYING, JUST LOVE THIS.

  • WOW. My jaw literally dropped. That was overwhelmingly amazing!

  • Matts great, apparently in his young days he played in my grandads house in Lismoiraine in bohola, my grandads dead since 1977, my mum & co have reel to reel tapes!!! They r great to listen 2, crackles an all!! xx

  • The only difference between my flute playing and Matt Malloys is Matt is awesome, and I apparently suck!!

Oh, and my flute is currently on fire, and Matts is not!!

Phenominal is not enough of a word for this!

  • Check out Matt Molloy & Donal Lunny - Bucks of Oranmore (1977) when he was in his prime.

  • Only then in his prime? Try listening to any of his solo albums from the mid-late 90's Molloy's 'prime' extends will beyond the Bothy years.

Not that 'The Bucks' video isn't brilliant.

  • I remember the great flautist Patsy O'Hanlon explained to us in a flute workshop that he met Matt Molloy when he was around 27 and Matt Molloy was 16.

And he said he knew Matt molloy would be if he was'nt already the best flautist in Ireland.

  • Oh dear lord!!!!

  • That is the reason I started playing the flute. I can't help but just gawp.

  • BRILLIANT PLAYING BY MATT.

  • The guy with the curly hair is Roger Daltry of The Who!

  • Isn't the guy with the curly hair his son, Peter Molloy?

  • After this flute solo.... Why do I even bother playing the flute anymore... T_T. I like Paddy's response to it all at the end, "Ah, not bad, not bad at all..."

  • that guy with the curly hair looked like Kenny G!

  • Derek Bell was still alive when this was done!

  • awesome!!!

  • amazing. I was told that if you can play this on any instrument, you have it mastered
