@drorjs At take off, not too much difference as the prop is the major source of noise. However, cruising is much quieter and much less vibration compare to 2 stroke motor.
@pjbeney are there any commercial electric models out there yet or are you guys kind of "pioneers" of that idea? i know there are commercail electric paragliders. i'm wondering what would be the cost of buying, maintaining ,and flight training for an electric trike.
@drorjs I think the cost of a complete unit will be around $15k. Maintaining will be probably much less issue than traditional motor as less complicated... I would not recommend to train on Electric as training require a lot of time with many hours in one day...
I am not a pioneer, few have been doing Electric PPG, but I think I am the first to have fly the original and great "Trikebuggy" with an Electric motor...
So let me ask what may be a simple question to PPG flyers;but as they say it 'explain it to me like a 10 yr old', what keeps you from just loading up on well-distrubuted battery weight on the undercarriage of the trike and change wing size until you compromise standards or FAR-103 rules?
@spurcross Simple answer: Nothing... You can put as many as practical the number of batteries in parallel. And you are right, you need to increase wing size (which I have done) to keep efficiency high
Bravo Pierre-Jean. Quand je t'ai vu bidouiller chez toi à Las Vegas le mois dernier et faire tes essais au sol, je ne croyais pas que tu aurais eu les couilles de vraiment voler ton engin. Je me suis trompé mon ami.
These are Hacker motors... for about 40HP (I know this is too much)... Yes, I looked also at the Etek ... It is 5 times heavier if I remeber correctly.
Great machine. Wheels means you can handle more weight, and make a good test bench for PPG applications. The more interest the more mainstream electrics will become and the more affordable it ends up... Like in the RC world.
That was awesome!! What is the batt voltage, also what is the batt weaght? I want to get into this. Bill and I have talked about it. Hey about a hybrid one lol
On that type of battery (LiFePO4) I think I have 20-30 minutes.... Though this type is safe to use, I am working on LiPo (not as safe) which will double the flight time or reduce the weight...
how much noise does it make compared to fuel motor?

@drorjs Also look at the "JrXe4LVO9LQ" video
that will give you another idea of noise... Keep in mind the close distance of the electric trike compare to the noise of the quad further away...

Good for you Pierre ! How long will it fly?
jo3jo2003 2 years ago
This will fly for about 30 min... With all the bad things in there I would hope to increase 50% the flying time.

Very nice rig. What type of motors are those? About how many total HP? Did you consider using an Etek motor?

The 2 batteries are 48V (LiFePO4 on 16S), they are 30Ah each.

Well done! what sort of flight time are you getting on a single charge?

There's some weight there!
Those axles 0:16 are going to need some beefing up to cope with any sort of heavy landing
Nice sounds..
