  • TOOGLE SWITCH EXPLANATION:

I think it's about time to explain what the secondary toogle switch does, as it seems no one really knows :) According to Hagstroms own product catalogue the toogle switch has a neutral position (middle position) a down position (Hi-Cut) and an up position (Hi-Middle-Cut). Amazing tool which makes the guitar worth it alone. I'm selling my Gibson Les Paul Standard and buying the Hagstrom Northen Swede. AMAZING guitar for jazz, blues, rock and groove metal lovers!

  • @thomashimzelf, of cours

  • hey robert

    love your playing

i have the change to trade my mexican fender for a hagstrom super swede black.

seems like a sweet deal to me if i see your demo.thanks for sharing.

  • I've got this guitar and it sounds so good, better than some gibson les paul studio's

  • @hagstrombraam

Thats shit talking dude! The studios rock!!! I got a premium plus and it rocks your socks of!

  • I think that's what Susan Tedeschi plays.

  • First electric I ever played, 10 years ago.

  • So nice!

  • Robert, just curious, why did you decide on the swede over the super swede? I'm having a hard time deciding between the two.

  • I have the feeling that this guy could make any guitar sound good. So I don't know if this helps me or not.

  • How difficult is the access to the upper frets ? I imagine it's not as easy as it would be on an SG, obviously, but compared to a Gibson Les Paul, how would it be ? Thanks, and nice video !

  • today i bought my hagstrom swede :D i love it x.x

    got a black one :D

  • 3:24 ha ha I see what you did there! I'm considering to get this guitar sooner or later btw.

  • totally amazing playing! I use the same axe in my band The Gypsy Bangles, we've got a pretty vintage tone...

  • marco pirroni has a few of these in sparkle finish, cool!.

  • I was playing one of these today and the filter switch baffled me.

  • I have one that looks like the one in the picture on the left of the 1975 catalog picture. I was told when the guitar was bought that the wood was Fruitwood, and the catalog and other people say Mahogany, but it does not look like Mahogany to me, it's a lot lighter in color, any comments on this would be appreciated. Thanks

  • theyr heavy, but I never paid attention to that, I had a cherry red one and it played better than anything id ever had.

  • Its not very useful to still hear the sound of the strings rattling through the mix...

  • I have a weakness for gold top guitars and this one looks great.

I particularly like the sound with the filter switch in the down postion.I read somewhere that it gives a fixed wah sound but I think it's more of a P90 vibe.Whatever,I like it.

  • the cramps?

  • The Swedes are great guitars for the price. Also the Vikings. I have one of each and couldn't be happier...

  • does the split switch adds a volume loss??

  • @Piripitollooo it's not a split switch and no, no volume loss.

  • Robert, love your playing. You helped me decide to buy a Goldtop Swede over an Epi. I have a request. I won't have access to this guitar for awhile so I'm at my wits end trying to get anyone to tell me what the center-to-center dimensions of the tune-omatic bridge, tailpiece and coverplate holes and the diameter of the bridge posts. Not even Hagstrom will respond. I'm trying to plan a new bridge and Bigsby.

  • @zulujosp Thank you. I don't know what those dimensions are.

  • @zulujosp 7.34cm pole-pole

  • @zulujosp you do realize that they came out with a super swede tremar with a bigsby on it already...

  • @M1n1assassin It's not a Bigsby....

It is very similar, but it is not a Bigsby.

  • Amzing guitar

  • Wich one is better, this guitar or an epiphone standard or custom?

  • @Crucius1 This by far. Was better than a Gibson Standard I played today. Got raped by a Gibson custom though.

  • That extra switch you have on the guitar switches the pickups from single coil to humbucker. You can easily tell by the change in hum and fuzz.

  • @ThriftyStranger Nope.

  • omg look at that sustain

  • The filter switch appears to be a Low Pass filter... onboard EQ

  • 0:41 Smokestack Lightnin

  • I just realize something about this video. There is very little non-solo playing. I think tone is two-fold, both singular notes and chords. Some guitars sound better doing solos than chords and vice versa.

  • Robert great playing....! can you inform us about the weight of this guitar ang what about the string action... thanks.. and keep the vibes high....!.

  • @anorimos68 Weight: 8.75 lbs. You can have the action really low. The fretboard radius is quite flat.

  • @rotren do these weight about the same as a Les Paul....I found the les paul a little too heavy for me

  • Wow those Swedes really know their way around a guitar xD

  • Robert,

Just curious- have you played any of the swedish made Hags? How do you think the new ones compare to them if so? I have an old swede from the 70s but have yet to play a new reissue.

Great playing as always and great review.

  • @poostanky I played those when about 27 years ago... can't quite remember how they compare to my Swede! The new ones are great. I love mine.

  • i ordered a cherry burst super swede of ebay, gunna be tight

  • hi, I have an epiphone lp standard and I´m thinking sale and bying a hagstrom sewed or viking. Do you think hagstrom is better than epiphone?

    thanks.

I´m brasilian, so my english is not so good.

  • I have an old Hagstrom from the 70's and have difficulty in pressing the strings. Does anyone know if there is a difference between the old Hagstrom and the new ones? What strings are best to have on so it doesn´t hurts so much to play? As it is, I get sore after 10 minutes. At the moment I have 012-054.

  • @Amissimal

Most people play 10s or 11s. You could go even lighter than that, but you'd sacrifice some tone in doing so.

  • awesome sustain and tone and playing :]

  • What is the song starting at :41? I dont know why I can not think of it.

  • Middle position always sounds SO beautiful clean. Just gives you the best of both worlds. You don't want the cleans to be muddy nor ice picky - just awesome.

  • sounds awesome? Where are these guitars made?

  • @edwardtang1977

in sweden! hagstrom is a swedish based company.

  • @FjordMonkey really? I only asked due to its affordable price tag...thought it might be made somewhere with cheaper labour

  • @edwardtang1977 Mate, they are made in some third world country now... but i have one that was made in sweden, it wasnt cheap. but now as i said a third world country but in the 70s (since this is a 70/71 model guitar) they were constructed and made in sweden, beacause it wasnt so easy to get labour power in say china...so yeah my guitar is a vintage one yeah. but the afordabilty comes from where they are made. so there you have it.

  • Robert how much does it weigh? like in kilos..

  • What is the neck like on the swede? I was thinking of ordering one but no one has one for me to try out where I live. I would hate to not like the neck or action.

  • @monsonbrewing action can be set very low for a really fast neck,, the h truss rod is great

  • i might buy one of these in the near future....great demo!

  • very nice , every demo should be like this one

  • Nice vid and nice playing, you convinced me.

  • i have that guitar except in white

  • Great Playing! Would you recommend the Swede or the Super Swede and why? thanks!

  • Why does this guitar have tits x) ? Is it a killswitch or a pickup splitter ?

  • Great demo! I'm just curious what kind of frets this guitar has. Are they medium, jumbo, etc.? Thanks.

  • That will be my next guitar...or the Super Swede. Great sound and they are quite cheap by the way.

  • @Kokki66 Mine too! Could you give me some advice on which one to buy: The Swede or the Super Swede? What's the main difference? I already got the XL5 and the HJ-500.. Need something in between! Thanks!

  • @dennoow

On the Hagstrom Swede there's a toogle switch, and you can change the tone with that. On Super Swede, there's no toogle switch, but it has another one and you can split the pick ups to get a single coil sound. By the way Hagstrom Ultra Swede is a really nice guitar too.

  • *...you can split the pick ups ---with that--- and get a single coil sound.

  • @Kokki66 Thanks man! I've got another question. I'm familiar with the single coil-switch (it's on the XL5 too), what's the main difference between that and the toogle switch? How does te toogleswitch change tones? With the Ultraswede you can't control the volume and tone from every pick-up seperatly. All Hagstromguitars are nice though!

  • @dennoow In both guitars you have humbuckers. The toogle switch only change the tone a bit - you can hear that in this demo - but you will get a humbucker sound. On the Super Swede you can split the pick ups, so if you use it in humbucker mode - there are humbuckers in it - you'll get a humbucker sound, but if you split them, you'll hear a real single coil sound from the guitar.

  • @Kokki66 Thanks so much man! So the Superswede had an even wider variety of sounds! that one it is ;)

  • 10s are great^^ i personally use 11s but 10-11 is great, 9s are to thin and sloppy.

  • what thickness of strings are on the Swede ?

    Thanks for the demo

  • 09-42 but I have now changed to 10-46 which sounds better.

  • Great demo Robert. The neck pup alone sounds great compared to a LP, which can be a little too muddy & beefy for me. This is a NICE guitar.

    Nice playing too.

  • Thank you.

  • Cant decide between this and the Gretsch Electromatic Corvette (which is kinda like a gretsch SG design mixed with an epiphone wilshire) they're both oh so sweet...

  • I love Hagstroms :)

  • He forgot to add that they have week long sustain Great guitars that play very well . I have 4 of them.

  • About time someone does a proper review of this great guitar... Awesome review, and great playing!

Robert, what gauge of strings are you using for this demo?

  • Nice tones! you jam too!

  • Put a PuPSwitch on that thing in place of the tone filter toggle.

    Google PuPSwitch

  • Fine playing Robert and that Hagstrom sounds great. How do you think it compares to your Michael Kelly?

To me it sounds a lot fatter and more Les Paul-like.

How about doing a side by side comparison of the two guitars? That could be quite revealing.

  • AMAZING Jazz

  • dude i really appreciate your videos and ive learnt a lot from them, but id like to point out in a totalyl non offensive way, that at 1:10, it sounds like hes saying "today i have a hagstrum swede in my ass" Lol

  • Hahah lol you;re right!

  • :p what does he say? in my hands???

  • yup

  • haha oh okay :)

well all in all, hes pretty amazing :)

  • @luidodds HaHa! - Remember that if you or I tried to say "pass the bacon" or something in his language it would probably sound like "I want to eat your children"...

  • Thanks for the vids and as always, great playing!

  • line6 totally killing that

  • Sounds incredible, except for the filter switch which sounds like a gimmick totally redundant with tone controls. I wish it was a coil tap instead. I'd love to see such a detailed demo of the Hagstrom Ultralux guitar though.

  • Robert, you the man! `Great playing and good revue

  • I love your vids. I don't comment much tho. I should.

  • sounds good, not for me though.

  • it's sounds so good

  • Good guitar i had one of these back in the 70s when they first came out ...super hot pickups

  • robert you've got one of the best tones. man. that guitar and amp just sounded so warm and smooth...on the neck pickup it had a nice "woman-like" sound i guess...i don't know if it was a lot on the guitar part or the amp but it sounded great. awesome review. amazing playing

  • Great playing, and great demo!

    Also, Amazing guitar!

    How much does it costs?

  • Thank you! $549 Canuck dollars.

  • @rotren Nice A found a few Super Swede at Kitts for just under 500$ canucks.

Still im acquiring a Swedish made while my trip too Stockholm. 1961 to 1983 god willing

  • great guitar!*****

  • How much did you pay for that?

  • wow . instead favoring john mayer's tone ..

    you're definitely on my 2nd !

  • I admire the heck out of your playing.

    Nice guitar review.

  • Thanks for this vid Robert! I just bought a Hagstrom Swede a couple of weeks ago and love it! I'm also seriously considering the Line6 M9 because of your vids!

  • i think for future vids, you should turn your amps up and your mics down a little, cuz it kinda sucks hearing the raw picking noise. to me, anyway.

    great playin tho :))

  • specially with the frets buzzing

  • man, the playing in clean damn near gives me hard on! sounds wicked

  • Good sound.

  • Sweet with "line 6 drive" mode

  • that's the best sound, but i reckon it has to do with the line6

  • cool strum

  • 1st comment. 1st comment. 1st view. :D

  • I myself have a Hagstrom, gotta love that thin neck!!!

  • @Meatwad07

Is the thin neck difficult to play for short, fat fingers?
