you are also looking at a singe issue - protein - there is a complex diet that must be balanced, minerals, energy, fat, fibre, and yes protein is important but not the be all end all. poor video for a university to be putting out!
In the video you show mule deer, there is a large difference in how mule deer process feed in their rumen vs how whitetail process feed. A mule deer needs higher fiber feeds. these are very general comments and you can not make these comments for all species in all areas!
Wrong!!!! What cattle eat is what deer eat. Clover, corn and alpha is much higher protein content then branches. The reason they dont want you feeding in the winter is because the metabolizem of a deer slows down in the winter and if u feed them a high protein source like the ones you say arnt high protein it will speed back up there motabolizem then if u stop feeding them they will die from lack of protein because there motabolizem is high.
