it is a region where the major population are ethnically bosniacs. That's why they have "better" relations to Sarajevo then to belgrade.
Ask your bosnish friends about the "Sandzaklije", there are also a lot of Bosniacs from the Sandzak living in Sarajevo. Because when Sarajevo was attackt about 30.000 or more men go to Bosnia to protect it from the serbian agression.
