Came back to say that I tried the monkey again and that I truly hate him and will go as far to say if I ever meet the person who placed this guy in the game I will kick them in the balls and spit in their face. Anyway, I also tried your freestyle running trick and gave up almost instantly, though it is brilliantly exciting to watch you play!

I doubt it. The TJ gets Mario past the "groove" in the mountain, and also gets a much better angle for turning around to wall kick (you'd have to do a couple of awkward jump kicks or something without the TJ).

I don't think this strat is faster anymore, even with the TJ. Olaus made a freerun where he goes through the mountain, but jumpkicks to skip the swimming animation entirely, so that' should be way faster.
