It's correct to observe that this behavior is largely limited to one ethnic group.
While there are some modders from other ethnic groups, it is effectively a white phenomenon.
I'd like to hear how the modders explain that.
Would they suggest that it is so because the other ethnic groups have no sense of 'art' or 'expression' or don't appreciate personal freedom? Or maybe the other groups don't know how to be 'kewl?' or how to show they have 'balls?' or ... ?

While many do it for attention and other superficial shallow reasons, others do it for very personal and spiritual reasons. For example stretched lobes is supposed to represent patience. Unfortunately, in my work I have access to ER reports representing a very large sample space you cannot argue. Attendant health complications aside, these poor coping behaviors ultimately implode. Survivors appear in hospitals having a single common denominator... without exception we find a failed home in the background of the desperate person. You fool yourself they got their start down this slope in a gesture of self expression. Average achieving families do not produce this.
