The deal was not as unprecedented as they made it seem, bad boy records (diddy) received a similar deal, less royalties but a higher money signing

Can someone explain to me what Baby and Slim did with the record deal when they first started...It says they sacrificed 85% of their royalties for ownership of their masters? Can someone please explain that to me? LIke does that mean that they set up a subsidiary company underneath Universal which is now Cash Money?

@GetDownOrLayDown31 no, they got 85% of the royalties plus the masters, cash money is technically not a subsidiary, as their deal is strictly a distribution deal, meaning that the only thing universal does it make sure there are CD's in the stores and songs on itunes, the other aspects--marketing, production, promotion, contracts etc... is cash money. The deal was not as unprecedented as they made it seem, bad boy records (diddy) received a similar deal, less royalties but a higher money signing
