I have successfully landed my ship on the surface of Zebes, in what appears to be Crateria if memory serves. The rain is heavy, coming down in sheets. Heavy lightning and thunder activity. Low level flooding through underground indicates this is a long-sustained storm system. Is the planet reacting to Mother Brain's experiments? It seems so relentless..."
Summer of 1994, baby! Aw man, I remember the first time I played this jawn so vividly ... at a friend's house with a group of buddies on the weekend of July 4th (a day or two before or after, but definitely a Saturday in early July). We'd rented a bunch of anime from Blockbuster (Genocyber, Doomed Megalopolis, and Deviman), and this amazing game. It rained so hard the entire weekend, and it was so goddamned hot, both of which made this part of the game, and Norfair stage, fit so perfectly.
This is why I love the Metroid hacks being made. When I make planet fall, I know that I am discovering a new place previously unspoiled by prior knowledge of a FAQ or Youtube video. A whole new planet awaits, with every door leading to a new mystery, with every pathway leading to untold possibilities, with every nook and cranny containing a secret. The elements of the game may get stale over time, but that sense of exploration, will never fade.
Totally agree with both Zethys and Eprosis, proper moody brooding, atmospheric, music. Its saying something is out there, its watching you and u just dont know where or where it is. I may read into it abit too much, but thats the feel i get from listening 2 this music, after stepping out of ur ship and hearing this. No other game is like Super Metroid, not even the newer recent follow-ups, and they're good. But Super Metroid just has totally different feel.
This is the very reason I'm making a survival horror adaptation of Metroid.
(universe wise that has no cannon with Metroid)
STORY SUM: It's going to be based on the first testing of the new power suite, when on the way to the testing ground you pick up an S.O.S. from a nearby planet. After landing and entering the planet facility you find it empty and the signal was sent 30 years ago. You hear scratches echoing the hall as you leave and find your ship ransacked.
@AshtonF2 You're right I am feeling rather happy at the moment, but I don't exactly know who or what "fuck" implies so you either need to use your words properly or people love not making much sense if you really think about it.
I remember being totally creeped out playing this one way back when. Compared to today's Survival Horrors, it's quite tame, but that sense of eeriness I get from this music lingers even after all this time.

I always remember coming out of Samus' ship with this theme. Just picture her coming up with the little elevator and hearing ZOOOWHAP.

Sometimes, when walking in the rain at night, I think of this song.
It makes me prefer rainy weather, over sunny weather.
