Lot of good stuff here and a lot of strange stuff. From one filmmaker to another, I applaud the effort, special effects work, camerawork, lighting, atmosphere and acting that went into this. On the other hand it's random how Batman is nearly offed by a bunch of thugs and a really pissed off hottie haha. Nevertheless, it's Gotham, and anything could happen, especially on a night where Batman's beat up and fatigued. Good stuff.
you know me and my friends have always wanted to make something like this but we just lack Visual Effects...which i am still in the process of learning -_-
Bad acting. Great color rendering. Is this comedy? Was Batman smoking crack, getting leukemia treatment, or on a diet? My advice to you is to steal and modify the best scenes from superhero movies... don't act just direct movies. And try again. DISLIKE CAUSE YOU CAN DO BETTER.
lol all this hi tech stuff and batman pulls out a shitty phone. You could tell there was sunlight as the blue was too lit up. But overall great job guys :)
This could be more awesome HitFilm! My suggest are the angles are not like a movie looks, it more like just a person trying to record the scene unexpectedly, second the Day to Night convertion, maybe you gotta set the contrast down a bit, and also get rid the vignette! well if you wanna use it though, don't do it too much.. less opacity should be good.. and last, The Music. Make the music louder, one of the reason The Dark Knight is so intense is the music, remember that music hold them all! :D
That being said, this is a great attempt and I can only imagine what great things we'll see next. I'd be interested to see a slower piece about Batman and Gotham. I think it'd be easier but somehow more fulfilling to pull it of if we could relate to the characters. Maybe rope in a script writer or two!
Might I suggest using one cinematographic feature the Arkham series uses for their combat. Speed things up before the impact and slow it down immediately at the point of impact. Might disguise the rehearsed pace of action that you get during the fights. Usually only people with a great deal of experience in a martial background can pull it off convincingly real time. Adding some cutaways of a street lamp or garbage can also set a tone for the scene. It felt too clean and generic for Gotham.
Personally I think Conroy's voice is the only Batman voice. Bale's is great but still kinda silly. Since you guys were already doing a tribute to the Arkham series, I think some variation of Conroy's voice would have been more consistent! Other than that, colour grading slightly overdone. It's beginning to be a hallmark of fan made films. Over saturation can be very hard on the eyes after while and 5 minutes is about the max.
Great fanfilm! But I'm not a fan of the way Christian Bale does his voice for batman. I guess it is to make sure people don't recognise him as Bruce Wayne, but it must hurt his throat. And it doesn't sound cool.
Not a good advertisement for HitFilm.. gotta do better than what the average 13 year old in his bedroom can do.. especially when you created the amazing HitFilm! LOL
Color correction was to dark and don't do slow mo for fighting, doesn't look convincing then. Also im sure no one shoots three feet of blood if they get punched
Hey guys - we just wanted to say thanks for all your feedback (good and bad!). We are reading all the comments. This is the first time we've attempted anything like this, so all of your feedback is hugely useful for our future projects.
We'll have some Making Of stuff up as soon as possible.
Great effort and it was pretty good, but there were a few highly offputting things. A lot of the camera angles were corny and cliche'd. Some of the action looked slow, thus fake (eg. when batman pulls the rope it looks slow, but the bad guy falls quickly). The biggest thing though was the colour. You should have taken a hint from Christopher Nolan's movies that real-er is better, even if you were trying to make it look like a game (which was sort of awkwardly done too).
Eh, this would have been better if the color wasn't so weird, the action wasn't so slow, and why the hell did the notifications flash over their heads way before they attacked?
@skinlo01 I know it is, but my point is that the notifications flashed over their heads way before they attacked. That's just stupid, bad editing, or both.
Eh, this must of been made disregarding that Batman fights super villains, has been trained extnestively and would never be almost killed by three street thugs.
If they wanted it to look like night, why didn't they film like night? I doubt they had a deadline for this film, so I don't see any reason not to make it look right. Otherwise, it's pretty cool.
@LithuanianWolf Filming at night is a lot harder if you have a limited budget. Most night scenes you see in films were actually shot in the day and colour corrected to look like night.
While i like what you were trying to do....you kinda made Batman look like a pussy.....i mean seriously all the special effects are cool, but you really must suck at arkham asylum/city if that was your inspiration. Not trying to hate on your video, but this really is kind of a insult to WB/DC/Rocksteady.....p.s. nice batman begins reference at the end
I'm dissapointed what rocksteady did from Batman in Batman: Arkham City - hes professional again and this is not a real Batman. Batman is emotional character and weak if he tired when fighting to all criminal scums and super villains. Yes, real Batman sometimes is pussy because hes ability have limit, it's only human guy with extreme abilities but not immortal.
@jaruto7 Batman was never shown as immortal in the game, he was very emotional in the game!!! He was about to let hundreds of people die just so he could be with talia!!!
@jaruto7 Check out the battle damage, plenty of injuries and wounds. And it took about 10 hrs to get all of them, he didnt get his bat-dick handed to him by 2 punks AND A FRICKING WOMAN. Hell Kick-ass was a better fighter than the way Batman was portrayed in this video! In the Game you can take out 30 thugs armed with knifes, tasers, riot shield, hammers...etc and still remain unharmed.
@jaruto7 Batman CAN!!! He wouldnt get surprised from behind by some woman either! Unless she was specially trained in stealth. In the real knightfall batman gets his back broken, which also happens in the bane fight in AA when u lose
Batman refers more failures than successes, even if it has been trained and no matter if you fight with a woman or a guy, people have limits, even Batman because is a human only.
Just wondering, why didn't you use a hose for the rain?? Because using the fake rain the rain has no physical contact with batman and co. so that's a problem Lol! But it was not half bad!
@Froiproductions Partly because we wanted to do some tutorials of how you can make these effects using the basic vfx in HitFilm Standard but also because the whole thing was filmed in one day, around 10 hours. Thumbs Down:
1.) Fight scenes are not suppose to be in slow motion. (at least use speed ramp)
2.) The whole short film was of batman getting his ass kicked
3.) Batman is a master in martial arts and he got shanked by a 5 foot tall woman
4.) Batman is know for high technology and he pulled out a 5 year old nokia cell phone to call Alfred.

Nice video but not as expected. Here are three things you should do:
1) Fighting Scene - Fast Cuts
2) Try to use some fancy camera shots like overhead, first person can also do extremely nice
3) The soundtrack should be loud as it gives the feeling of real batman
I will give 6/10 . Waiting for sequel ........!
