  • xD one of my fav comedians

  • Hes right on about modern country music. That stuff is just re-packaged pop rock garbage that hateful ppl use to make themselves feel better. Really enjoyed this espisode.

  • what the hull was with flying Garth?

  • Am I the only one that liked the English Folk Music?

  • @duckingforcover09 nope. i liked it too. so did rich

  • @duckingforcover09 I love all English folk, you're not alone.

  • that is also june carter

  • I like Garth Brooks!

  • Rich Hall is sex on legs.

  • Love his raspy voice

  • I take date rape drugs and ask myself out ;)

  • 2 Garth Brooks did not like this

  • whats the name of the song he played

  • the song Rich sings at the end remind me of 'You've got a friend in me'

  • English Folk/Country's got an undeserved reputation for being naff and shit. There are some naff and shit songs but there are also some great ones. Ewan MacColl's Manchester Rambler for instance is brilliant, so is Cousin Jack by Show of Hands and anything done by Fishermans Friends.

  • Time to type midget again. No need to use the 'F' or 'C' word anymore. Midget is now so ofensive, that is knocks fuck and cunt out the door.

  • Our version is The Worzels!

  • according to them; midgets are people of satan...you cant even mention their names, they should always be known as: they who must not be named

  • cash is king

  • Although the song at the end was funny, I felt really touched by the honesty of it hidden behind the humour.

  • Midgshit.

  • Cut the line!!!!!!

  • The great thing is that the clip they showed of Garth Brooks isn't even the weirdest shit he's ever done. I'm referring to the whole Chris Gaines fiasco.

  • Cool song.

  • Anyone else think that Rich's song sounds a bit like a theme for an adult Pixar film? Maybe like 'Sex Toy Story'.

  • isn't it basically the rhythm section of heart and soul?

  • And to think, this is before the advent of Taylor Swift!

  • Two things:

    1) Rich Hall is an awesome musician.

    2) Rich Hall's smile is the cutest god-damned thing ever. Bar none.

  • Didn't know Rich could play the Piano, only seen him on Guitar.

  • haha that song was jokes

  • Paul is totally wrong about "our equivalent of country" - some folk (like the one he showed) sucks, but some of it is the shit

  • I think Billy Ray Cyrus' main mistake is being the father of that pompous bitch they call Miley Cyrus

  • I love Rich's song at the end!

  • to me i think real country music is great but modern is just horrible, mass produced shit.

  • Rich is right about modern country music..it's become Disneyfied and lost it's true grit.

  • @mooneepondskid i see what you did there...

  • That woman singing 'Blow Away the Morning Dew' is awesome. That's a classic Sam Larner song. Why are English people so down on their indigenous music?

  • Like Rich's laugh at the buddy holly joke at 3:03. Sort of a naughty laugh there.

  • that song was great

  • Country music = maple syrup?

Rich, I think you've been doing the UK too long.

  • that english "country singer" sounds more like a very bad irish folk impersinator

  • She's still singing and teaching,Google Chris Coe

  • The girl singing Blow The Winds Hi Ho was Chris Coe,and she is French. She married the English folkie Pete Coe.

  • Thanks for posting these, mate - quality comedy (though Merton sounds better when he's not scripted) :)

  • I never realised before just how much this show uses VT's

  • may i just say that woman is oviasly irish not english and i didnt think it was that bad better than the crap these days

  • @rhysdegnan To be perfectly honest when I first heard Bob Dylan he sounded Irish (I already knew he was an American), so I figured out it was probably just a silly accent for the song. So I reckon she was putting on the Irish accent to make the song sound a bit more folky, however in reality she probably speaks like some chav xD

  • @TopGearFanForever She has a west country accent, it's not irish in the slightest. 90% of english folk sounds like this, and it sounds nothing like irish folk music.

  • @maureenOWW I don't know. I hate folk music anyway xD

  • @rhysdegnan 'may i just say that woman is oviasly irish not english ' - firstly, the word is OBVIOUSLY. Secondly, she is clearly english, she doesn't sound irish in the least. She is using the standard voice and tone for english folk music. Clearly you've never heard any before, so don't talk about things you know nothing about. Ape.

  • @maureenOWW "oviasly" you got to be kidding me!

  • If hes from Virginia and North Carolina, why does he have such a northern accent?

  • @VASINGER Maybe because he lives in Montana

  • agree abour Billy Ray Cyrus, not only did he "give" the world Achy Breaky Heart, he's also responsible for Hannah Montana eugh

  • Can there be such a thing as a country song without a lyric about "pick up truck"

    ....

  • @numbersabcdefg yes I listen to tons of Country music and not one mentions a pickup truck.

  • Fairport Convention did some good things with English folk music

  • 'I'd take date rape drugs and ask myself out! Thats great.

  • 100% agree with Hall regarding the "new country music". Garth Brooks et alia are pop garbage. Bring back bluegrass (Ole timey) and let American Idol foist the 'Billy Ray Cyrus' shyte on the tone deaf and gullible.

  • 'If you come down to my father's house there you may lay me down,

And take away my maidenhead, likewise ten thousand pounds.'

We strolled down to her father's house, where she quickly locked me out,

She said 'Young man I'm a maid within, and you're a fool without!'

  • @SonofCuhulainn Ah, sex and violence, the backbone of any good folk song.

  • We both strolled on together 'til we came to some cocks of hay,

I said 'Young lady it's a very nice place for you and I to play.'

I put my arms around her and tried to lay her down,

She said 'Young man this dewy grass will spoil my new silk gown.'

  • The song she's singing is "All Hail the Dewy Morning":

I went out one May morning to see what I could shoot,

    I there a-spied a fair pretty maid a-rowing in a boat.

Chorus: Singing hail the dewy morning,

    Blow the winds high-ho,

    Clear away the morning dew,

How sweet the winds do blow.

  • i wonna buy this song, what is it called?

  • Whats wrong with folk!?!?!

  • Ah, rich hall, a brit born in the wrong country. What a legend

  • heh, couldn't dis Johnny Cash; who would?

  • the english woman is talkin about gettin laid

  • I thought for sure that #5 was going to be that second moon.

  • bourbon with cornflakes..... the breakfast of champions

    xDDDD!!

  • They say the word shit, but they bleep the word midget?

  • Never knew Rich was a bit of a musician, sounds a bit like tom waitts dont ya think?

  • Pull Lol

  • Who was the english folk singer that sang that song halfway through? Or a song name at least?

  • Honestly, Rich's song doesn't sound half bad. :|

  • @manasmith

if you liked that check out the other stuff he does as Otis Lee Crenshaw, he is brilliant : )

  • i could actually see him singing, hes got a cool voice ;)

  • Anyone else look at Garth Brooks on the ropes thinkin "snap snap snap snap"

  • I was praying for a heartattack

  • maidenhead? nice, neva realised. I guess it makes sense as maids are meant to be virgins hence brides "maids" at weddings

  • I live in a town called Maidenhead, read into that what you will.

  • They didn't censor shit, but the censored midget?

    Nice.

  • @jammybizzle666

B'cuz they don't wanna offend anyone obviously XD I'd be offended if they omitted the word shit..................then again i am constipated ;P XD Rich Hall rocks doesn't he

  • @jammybizzle666 The BBC were probably worried about offending people with the word midget, particularly with the Daily Mail riding their arse all the time.

  • @amazingrandy900

It wasn't the BBC that muted it, it was Virgin.

  • @jammybizzle666 Really? That is pretty ridiculous then.

  • @jammybizzle666 I thin they censored midget because people could find that offensive, and shit isn't really offensive

  • @jammybizzle666 its because we're lax on swearing in the uk, but midget is discriminatory, like the dreaded "n" word.

  • @jammybizzle666 Well you can anger a midget, but can't piss off shit.

  • from what I can gather she is singing about losing her Virginity, and then waking up in the morning.

  • Must have been the best episode of room 101 i've seen. RIch Hall is great

  • i bet some of those red neck fucks actually thought he was flying

  • I love Rich Hall, probably my favourite American comedian :)

  • I think you're right, I seem to remember from GCSE shakespeare that 'maidenhead' is an old term for virginity, I thought that was weird too.

  • He seems like a dashed decent fella :o)

  • I really do love Rich Hall!

He's just so smart and funny.

    Thanks loads for uploading :D

  • mertons enjoying him-self at the end

  • I think they both enjoyed it. Rich Hall smiled more during this than I've ever seen him smile.

  • @gnikrnov might be the only time I seen him smile!

  • his song is GENIUS ! ! !

  • the song is awesome. love it!

  • that song is brilliant!!

  • why was it even censord? anyone could tell what he was saying....

  • I was more irritated at how they consider 'midget' to be so offensive when 'shit' is a far worse term, I agree completely that censorship is useless and causes more problems than it solves. It's completely obvious what word they blocked, and they've achieved nothing but drawing attention to it, whereas leaving it uncensored would've drawn little to no attention at all.

  • The reason why BBC does not censor shit and fuck is that they are used as expressions and expletives, which is considered freedom of expression. If they used "shit" to referring to the act, or fuck in reference to the act, they may censor it, as this is "indecent." They also censor anything that could be construed as derogatory towards a certain group.

    Yeah, it's stupid.

  • wait they censor fuck in QI dont they?

  • depends on what time its on

  • They'll censor 'midget' but not 'shit' =\ yeah, that makes perfect sense.

  • They think that saying midget would offend people with dwarfism but shit won't offend anyone. :/

  • Midget can offend people for 'reasonable' reasons. Shit is just a bad word.

  • 2:15 was that a Bill Hicks refrence?

  • Damn well sounds like it. I'm sure Rich Hall is familiar with Hick's routines.

They're very similar personalities, I think.

  • I was thinking that too..

  • Lol is Rich Hall actually Otis Lee Crenshaw? Hence the winking? lol alter ego?

  • Yes it is. It's a character he plays.

  • Comment removed

  • Rich Hall sings OWNS.

  • that girl singing the english folk song at 4:00 is actually pretty damn hot

  • You mean the lass from Steeleye Span?

  • The song Rich Hall sings is my favorate

  • i smell some bill hicks.....

  • Rich Hall is one of the rare American comics who is actually funny- which is why he's based in Britain. American's have a crap sense of humour and probably wouldn't get him.

  • He says as much himself, and I doubt anyone here would shoot him in the head. Waste of talent if they did ^_^

  • LOL. This from someone in a country where Bernard Manning is one of the best paid comedians in the country.

  • Err... he's dead. And most people hated him anyway.

  • LOL. How many more very bad comedians do you want from the uk who are popular. By the way, you mean most people YOU KNOW hated him. That way you can discount the millions who liked him in your country. My god look at the popularity of Peter Kay, one of the most mediocre comics I've ever seen.

  • Peter Kay is a family comedian... his stuff isn't too offensive. He's the type of comedian you'd watch on Sunday when you visit your grandma.

  • @DayveIsh Yeah, I thought he was funny, when I was 10.

  • @Randiriel01 As an American, I take slight umbrage to your assessment of the American sense of humor. Rich Hall was a big star in the US nearly 30 years ago. He was on Saturday Night Live, Fridays, And Not Necessarily The News. So, we "got him." He works in the UK primarily because that is where he has chosen to live. I live and work in Thailand, because I choose to. He is a very funny man indeed, but he isn't even in the top 50 of American comedians historically. Just saying

  • @kissrev1 That might change over time, him not being in the top 50 I mean.

  • @Randiriel01 A rather strange generalization... especially considering that Rich Hall is successful in America as well as G.B. There are those of us in the States who appreciate a British style of humor, as opposed to the, for lack of a better word, shit that is pumped into our mainstream.

  • anyone know the name of the song rich sings? can't find it in any of the otis lee crenshaw stuff on youtube

  • There's an entry called 'Women call it stalking' - under the user 'singingbanana'.

  • much as i dislike country music, i can see where rich is coming from in this. i don't really see anything to identify with in country music, but i can see what he's talking about with the lack of authenticity in the new stuff. i guess i just didnt grown up listening to it and it's not my thing

  • @somerandomer how could you not like country music?

  • God...lol...I would actually listen to that all day :P Twas awesome

  • Old School Country is pretty good. David Allen Coe, Merle Haggard, etc.

  • Has anyone else noticed that both Paul and Rich are both wearing jackets with flowers on?

  • Yes she is, the storyline of the song is that the girl is being hassled by a bloke, so she tells him to come to her father's house and she'll give him money (and sex) but then she tricks him and locks him out. The song is originally sung by a man it seems, and ends with some advice to other men, that if you encounter a pretty girl, just have sex with her there and then. Song is "Clear Away the Morning Dew"

  • Yaaaas I totally agree with Rich about country music..I cant stand Garth Brooks, Dixie Chicks and all that crap.

  • He seems to have done more good PR for America than Obama every will.

  • I first saw Rich on QI a few weeks ago and I thought, Man he's weird. But he's really been growing on me ever since. :)

  • hes very good live

  • I've seen him and he is absolutely awesome. He did the first half as himself and then was Otis for the second half. I had an argument with Otis. He improvises a song about a person in the front row and their job, which would have been me but I was unemployed. I told him I was a music student. "How am I doing then Nick!" and I had also played on that same stage a week before (End of year concerts happen there) to which Otis took great offense and he screamed at me!

  • I saw him do the same thing. Tbhe woman he chose had a job where she recorded audio books for the blind. When she told him that the look on his face was priceless.

  • same here, first time i saw him was on QI, didn't like him at first but now i kinda do. ihs stand-up is pretty good.

  • Same with me, liked him on QI saw some of his Stand ups.

  • and with the british folk music....

  • i'm with him on the country music thign!

  • rich hall= Legend

  • cant get a bargain anywhere now!

  • lmao that song was awesome

  • he is the american Bill :D

  • That Garth Brooks clip is hilarious. Its so cheesy it almost made me throw up!

  • agreed

  • has anyone else ever had a 100% record on room 101?

  • Marcus Brigstocke i think

  • yeah, you're right, he did too! So did Dara o'Briain, come to think of it.

  • Garth Brooks can fly!? o:

  • I would have to agree with Rich on his distaste for certain modern country musicians.

Give me some Patsy Cline or Marty Robbins or Johnny Cash any day. But I very much dislike the sort of self-important, often jingoistic pop crap that is cranked out by the likes of Toby Keith.

I quite like Rich's music. I didn't know he could sing... he sort of reminds me of Rick Moranis' country album.

  • i didnt know that hall could sing as well!

  • waterbed down a pair of wranglers, brilliant

  • Did they just leave the keyboard out from when bill bailey was there? lol ^^

  • rich's song was brilliant =)

  • Rich Hall is a class act

  • wow all his stuff got in prob. cause he's funny

  • they bleep out midget but not simeise twins
