Very nice nitrogen triiodide explosion! I tried myself to detonate two paper sheets, one under another and it was good. You made this with four samples of NI3! I love the color of iodine stains. I have mostly detonate samples which were drying all night and the explosions had brown stains. You have to did this after short time.
We actually just grinded potassium chlorate and sugar with one another, and then added drops of sulfuric acid to set it off. I still think it's pretty crazy that only those three can create fire like that.
yeah, well chemistry is awesome. Haha, yeah that is actually a fairly efficient rocket fuel (it's used by amatures and in some small military applications like hellfire missiles as a component fuel). Next you guys should work on making super symmetrical monomethyl hydrazine and use nitrogen tetroxide as an oxidizer to produce an awesome hypergolic thruster! I don't think this has ever been attempted by a chemistry lab before either!
