  • "this little-known work"

Why o Why does a comment that states something as silly as this

get top voted and stuck to the top of the page? Arrrrgh

Vote me up people so I can displace this base crasness!!!

  • Great

  • This prelude is stunningly beautiful. And she plays it wonderful. The separate voices, the voice in the left hand, the tempo, not too pathetic, just in balance. Great!

  • I was imprest by Gould....Richter.......not anymore

  • i wonder why she plays with such a high wrist though.. doesn't it cause tension?

  • beautiful interpretation very soft

  • beautiful!

  • It's just AMAZING!

  • I hear SCARLATTI sooo dominantly here!!! Is it just me??

  • Just a few minutes ago, the very first time I listened to this something pierced my ear very badly, a bass note, I stopped and went to check it out and found out there is an E instead of E# in the second bass descent. Can someone explain it this to me. How can both be right? Did Bach intend it be played by choice, since both can fit, each in it's own way?

  • Lovely.

  • Nice played! I also did a try on this piece on my electric piano

  • Wonderful She looks just a young princess Anne

  • That is phenomenal!!!

(A real alternative to Friedrich Gulda.)

    Played on the highest level!!

  • This women is a GENIOUS!

I heard her play the complete work over two concerts. By now one of the best classical live experiences in my life.

  • This is yet another example of why she is considered one of the best interpreters of his work.

  • I just love the way Hewitt plays Bach. I love the way she brings out the counterpoint in this beautiful prelude and the fugue is hauntingly beautiful too.

  • Brava Angela...ogni tanto qualcuno che fa provare qualcosa...

  • Admirable Angela Hewitt ! Comme on la sent intime avec l'oeuvre de Bach, avec Bach lui-même ! Le plaisir qu'elle ressent, on le partage. Quelle délicatesse, quelle probité ! Un grand merci pour cette vidéo.

  • Hi everyone,

If you guys had to chose a Bach prelude & fugue to play for a piano competition which one would you chose?

I'm just so confused, I've been listening to all of them and I though I'd liked one then, the next one, then just thought too fast, too slow, couldn't make up my mind, they're all really beaufitul!

    Please HELP! THANK YOU!

  • For a showman's prelude/fugue play A flat Bk 2, or for a stylish and impressive p&f play the C sharp major Bk I or the B flat major / B flat minor Bk 2 as a stunning pair! Good Luck - Remember Bach is our daily bread, said Beethoven

  • Actually it was Schumann who said that about Bach ("Let it be your daily bread") and he was talking specifically about the works from the WTC.

    A perfect description !

  • Both Beethoven and Schumann said it. Beethoven was talking about Bach in general? Schumann was being specific.

  • It's just so FINE, I'm almost speechless.

Just listened to Andras Schiff in this little-known work, and found his version equally absorbing for similar reasons, and yet their approach is by no means the same.

Wanda Landowska, Agi Jambor, Myra Hess, Trevor Pinnock, Glenn Gould, Andras Schiff, Angela Hewitt -- take your pick. They are all great, and each gives a different view of thee music.

    Ms Hewitt is a wonder.

  • @Pischnaholic "Little-known work"?

  • wonderful experience this one of listening Bach's WTC played by this superb Angela Hewitt interpreter, nice posting of all the preludes and fugues that comprises this colossal work

  • You must be kidding! Personally, I am very put off by Glenn Gould's humming which is just too distracting!

  • Grandioso mi corazon late a 1000 por segundo con Bach.

Gracias por este canal, será mi visita diaria para curar cualquier mal.

  • Quite amazing with one exception:

She is playing an E natural in the left hand on measure 6 of the prelude whereas an E# is found in the score. She does this on the repeat as well. I take it to mean that even the best of us will err.

  • You have a really good ear! You are correct, she is playing an E natural in measure 6.

However, of the two copies of WTC 2, the Altnickol copy (also known as P43O) that you must have learned from has the marked E#. The London Autograph copy has an E natural within its contents.

Because both copies are viewed as the primary source of the WTC 2, you are then both right! Great ear!!

  • Some scores do switch a little. I'm playing Nocturne in C# minor by Chopin and I know there's one note that can be played as A and A#. However she might have made a mistake, but if she did it on the repeat then maybe her score is slightly different.

  • I'm probably not the first to notice this but has anyone else noticed the similarity of the fugue theme to Dominico Scarlatti's L413?

  • Yes, I was thinking about that today! The start is exactly the same, but Bach's version ends up being "just a bit" different.

  • Beautiful quality sound, fantastic playing and the commentary before the piece is interestling also.

  • lovely

  • A joy to hear. A lovely legato for the fugue with a strong, positive finale. I normally prefer the clavichord, but a piano in the hands of Angela Hewitt is enchanting.

  • best WTC ever !!!!!!

  • Brilliant Bach playing. Thanks for sharing.
