this is the original performer (not writer) and i dig it! also, in case your interested anybody recognize that guitar in there? Jimmy Page doing session work. Cool
The song was originally recorded by Lulu and released on the same label Decca, she said they told her no one else was planning to release it, but the writer Bert Berns claimed he wrote it for Them and when their version was played on radio in favour of hers Lulu refused to plug her version, she left Decca as soon as she could.
Great song, great version and great animation - but a shame about the anachronistic telephone boxes. Phone cards appeared in the 80s from what I can remember. Otherwise excellent - well done!
@john111257 My goodness, I never knew that! I am aware it was recorded before Them, and often wondered if it was an influence on Bowie's approach, but didn't know it was actually a Lulu single. Thanks for the info!
@iangordoncraig I'm a bit late coming to this, but Lulu and Bowie worked together around the time he was doing the Pin Ups album. He produced her comeback single, a cover of his song "The Man Who Sold the World," and the band used are the same players from the Pin Ups record. He did such a great job on it I kind of prefer her version of the song (depending on the mood?)
Great video, Kinda suspected this was Jimmy Page on guitar..Great guitar work.

@concretefeet3 Correct. Lulu was not the writer, BUT the song was written for a girl.
