There is something overbearing about this video, like you want to look out for everyone else in the world. It's a good cause, to be sure. But this idea presupposes that everyone will eventually get married. Should procreation then really depend on who can find a life-partner as opposed to the poor sod who finds nothing more than a 'normal' partner? It just doesn't seem... Right.
For the record: I deeply regret the night I lost my virginity. The young man in question was horribly bad for me, and did not love me.
However, I have had other boyfriends, and yes, I have had sex with most of them. I do not regret this; I remember them fondly and have shared an experience with them that we will never forget. Best of all, I know how to breach the topics of sex and physical love (among TONS of others!) with my future spouse. I did not know this when I was a virgin.
@hellokittyxsuicide - As a married women, I can say there are many other things important in a marriage like communication and laughing together. Selfless love is another good example, rather than being consumed with your own desires. I would agree that sex is important, but studies show that people who save sex for marriage are more successful and have a lower divorce rate. So if you care about your future marriage, waiting for marriage is one of the best things you can do!
@dayofpurity That depends. People who get married YOUNG in order to avoid the pressure of remaining a virgin into their mid-20's are more likely to get married FOR sex, and to have no clue of how to sustain a marriage or handle pressure. Guess what? The younger you get married, statistically, the MORE likely you are to divorce!

God has given us His word that tells us plainly that whoever practices the sin of fornication cannot enter heaven. Why would anyone want to risk this and forever regret it? God bless you for sharing! Even if just one soul is helped it will be worth all your efforts.
I dislike the notion that because someone has decided to engage in healthy sexual activity they are "impure" that's just ridiculous and offensive. Virginity is overrated. It doesn't "mean" anything it's just something that people made up so they can control how you think about sex and your body.. seeing at as something you need to fear instead of embrace and understand or have access to information about sex and sexual health.
This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen in my life. What teenager in his/her right mind is going to pay attention to a stuffed bear? Condescending and DUMB.
I support choice. If someone feels like waiting, then that's fine, even if they want to wait all the way until marriage. And if someone is comfortable sleeping with another person after the first, second, or maybe even not a date at all, that's fine too!!! Neither decision is higher than the other, it's all about what's right for the individual person.
Alright, the "purity bear" is absolutely cheesy. But I think the message is good! I'm proud to say that I'm staying pure until marriage. Not only physically, but mentally too. :)
@livedinbarz - The decision to wait for marriage is a very personal one, nothing can 'make' someone wait. We are encouraging people to think about it.
@livedinbarz . I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have waited 'til marriage after seeing this video. But w/ that said, I did wait 'til marriage...I was 33 and have never regretted it, not even for a millisecond! My husband is amazing and worth the wait. (He also waited 'til marriage and he was 37!!) We just had our first baby boy, also worth the wait! But that was done w/ lots of prayer in a God that I trusted had the best waiting for me. Not everyone has that same motivation/belief.
@MegaRoodypoo So if their ideas were to match up with yours, then it's not seen as narrow minded? But if they have their own ideas, that don't match yours, that is narrow minded? See the holes in your argument?
@dayofpurity These are serious matters that show that sex was not created for multiple partners. There are even well researched statistics on the dangers of sex. The divorce rate for women goes down 76% if she remains a virgin before marriage, and for men it's 63%. Also 2/3 of people wished they had waited according to a poll, 77% of those responses were female, and 60% were male. There are more statistics to back up our views at our website lc.org.
Look. I think it's great that you're expressing an opinion and promoting a cause. Causes are good; I think everyone should support at least one or two, whether they are popular or not. Freedom of speech is one thing that makes this country great. I won't criticize the idea you're conveying like a lot of hypocrites here, but I will say that this video is comically terrible. Yep. It's horrible. It's just not something you want to use to further your agenda. Because people will laugh at it.the end.
I can agree with both sides of the issue. On the one hand, the fact that teenagers feel sexual urges is not an excuse to indulge. And all forms of sex-oriented birth control money, coordination, discipline, or all three. Teenagers are in short supply of those in the heat of the moment. But, "other ways" to vent those urges should be regarded as entirely appropriate vs. being shunned (I'm trying to be polite, but you get the idea.) Full urge-repression is a huge obstacle to practical virginity.
Like any other organism on this planet we humans are meant to copulate, in essence as much as we can with as much members of the same species to increase our chances to pass on our healthy genes. If not our species will become extinct, simple. That said, of course we should take responsability. Teach our children the risks of unsafe sex, but come on sex is one of the most natural things in the world like eating and taking a piss. What's the difference with or without a ring? religious dogma...
@RwehappyRudy That's sad that you compare humans to mere organisms on the planet. We are so much more, that's seen through the differences between organisms/animals and humans. We have the ability to make conscious decisions and actions and think for ourselves, they do not. I don't think they are saying that sex is bad and that no one should have sex, but rather that sex is for marriage and should be enjoyed in that realm.
@RwehappyRudy Also, I think we are more in danger of overpopulation than under population in the world. There are more risks involved in having many sexual partners than in waiting for marriage and having one partner. I don't think you can compare waiting to have sex to eating and going to the bathroom. If you don't do these things after a while you will die, but you can wait to have sex without these same consequences.
@Tomazzs01 No, it is not normal in America. America has many different views and oppinions because it is a country of immigrants. It might be normal in a certain region, but definitely not everywhere.
@ArsNova1377 We actually are doing nothing even close to forcefully taking away rights. Our message is positive, encouraging a lifestyle that is often ridiculed and belittled by our culture but does actually have great benefits. The message is one of edification, not assault.
@Refalm If you are implying that condoms are safer than abstaining from sex, I think you might be wrong. Don't you think not engaging in the act is safer and will produce less causes of pregnancy and STD's than using a condom and having sex? There are actually statistics out there that would say that is so. Along the same lines, abstaining is safer and will not produce STD's such as HPV, which can eventually lead to cancer and which condoms provide almost no protection against.
@vanaerde Actually, the United States is a large country with many varying views. The middle states are usually far more puritan than others. For instance, you'd practically be mocked for acting like this in California.
@narutowned I am proud to say that I from California and share these views! Although these views may not be popular in California as it is much more of a liberal state, there are still conservatives there who hold these values.
As best I can tell from the muddy research, an abstinence commitment cuts the annual pregnancy rate about in half. An IUD or implant cuts it by 99.8 percent. 88 percent of abstinence pledgers have sex before marriage including over 80 percent of evangelical abstinence pledgers. Even with Jesus looking over your shoulder, an abstinence pledge is a shoddy contraceptive. Imagine if the Pill worked as badly as prayers and promises.
@TrustingDoubt Its true that a lot of people want to wait for their spouse and recognize that as the best option, however, there is a lack of respect, tolerance, and encouragement in our society to keep that decision. That is why the Day of Purity educates and encourages people to stand strong, that their choice is a healthy one and that it is worth the wait!
@arkboy3 Is this the "liberal" version of tolerance? It looks a lot like intolerance to me... arkboy3 you need to open up your mind to, if not embrace, at least tolerate opinions that differ from your own narrow-minded view.
@MegaRoodypoo I think this video is for everyone, not just for religous people. How does trying to expalin your point of view to a society where this is somewhat of a "foreign" concept make you someone "who can't think on their own?" Obviously they could think on their own if they made the follow up video with an explanation.
@TrustingDoubt You can't really use the example of those who didn't follow through on commitments to abstinence to say the method itself doesn't work. Abstinence is 100% effective. The problem is the people who don't take it seriously, not the method itself. It's only "shoddy" when it is not given the respect it deserves. Obviously that will happen, but that speaks to human mistakes, not an ineffective idea.
We owe our children an education, not just a wagging finger and a disapproving teddy bear. I thought protecting children meant making sure they can protect themselves, not just telling them "no". But protecting children obviously isn't the point.
The point is to get them to obey and not ask questions.
@1xrosexredx1 No, quite the opposite. Our site DayofPurity org encourages youth to educate themselves and their peers about the benefits of waiting for marriage. Did you know a woman who marries as a virgin has a 76% decreased chance of being divorced? Each year we spend $16.5 Billion dollars on STD treatment. There are SO many different reasons to wait for marriage!
@dayofpurity Maybe because the same people who believe their god doesn't want them to have sex also believe he doesn't want them to get divorced. That statistic, if true, says nothing about whether waiting for marriage to have sex actually increases the quality of that marriage. An unhappy marriage is not necessarily superior to a divorce.
@lizabethswann When you share a relationship with your spouse that is deeper than with anyone else, when you can trust that they waited for you and will be loyal to you, and they will love you for your whole soul and not just how you can pleasure them, that is what leads to a happier marriage!
@dayofpurity No its not. Being happy in marriage has nothing to do with being a virgin when you are married. The rest of your post I agree with, but the fact that you try to slip in "that they waited for you" really makes the whole thing miss the point.
@lizabethswann The reason we have such a high divorce rate is that people are only in it for themselves. The entire point of a marriage is what can I give to my spouse, not what can I get from them. If more attitudes were less selfish, divorce rates would fall at an incredible rate! Thus the entire point of the video, do not be selfish.
@charlesfosterkane This is why loyalty within marriage is also important - that is also something the Day of Purity encourages. While there are some other ways to contract an STD, its is most often from infidelity. If you and your spouse wait for each other and stay loyal to each other, your chances of getting it are pretty slim.
@arkboy3 Exactly. That's why we're promoting this. We recognize that not everyone follows through on their commitment, but are you saying we shouldn't bother encouraging them to?
@dayofpurity Correlation does not equal causation. A woman who marries as a virgin more than likely has religious beliefs that speak against divorce as well.
@1xrosexredx1 Everything they're promoting is about safety. It's about protecting people from emotional, spiritual and physical harm. How can you say they don't care about people? And if they didn't want questions, they probably wouldn't be approving all these comments.
As the population soars past 7 billion, I think it's not just irresponsible, but also morally reprehensible to teach abstinence in place of REAL sex education that has been proven to reduce the instance of early pregnancies and STD's. Seriously; it doesn't work and it only assists in the repression of young people as well as those of other sexual orientations. It's time for these people to join the sanity club.
@S3NT13NTGL1TCH Actually, abstinence works the best at preventing pregnancies :) ask any doctor. Blaming abstinence is illogical - it's precisely the void of abstinence in our culture that causes pregnancies. Nobody gets pregnancy without having sex first. If you're really concerned about the world population, you should be encouraging people to wait for marriage and supporting the Day of Purity!
@chriswonderboy A "lack of sex-ed" doesn't make you pregnant - no one skips a class a has a kid because of it - nor do you get saved and suddenly have a baby.
It's not "religion's fault." It's medically proven that sex is the only thing that gets you pregnant. The Day of Purity encourages and respects people who have made that choice to wait for marriage.
@dayofpurity Yes, abstinence works. However, it is not a realistic view of how teenagers will behave! It is completely normal and human to have sexual urges during your teen years. Your hormones are going crazy, and your sex organs are developing and maturing. Sex will happen between teens no matter what you do or say. How is it better for them to feel guilty for normal urges than to be smart and prepared and safe? I support sex education 100%. Preaching abstinence is just not practical!
@Bridges626 You have such a negative view of teenagers. Your post says "sex will happen no matter what" - This type of fatalist dismissal of all teens is EXACTLY what the Day of Purity is standing up against! We encourage youth that they can rise above animal instincts and choose the healthier option of waiting for marriage. Many teens have successfully done so and many others will.
@dayofpurity I don't have a negative view of teenagers at all; I have a realistic one. I don't think that teenagers are evil miscreants who want to have sex to make God angry. I think that sex is a normal, natural thing and teenagers are curious about it! I think that there is nothing wrong with teenagers having sex as long as they are being safe! And in no way am I 'fatally dismissing' them, rather, I don't think we should treat teens as if they are stupid. They're not.
@Bridges626 Sexual urges will develop, so will the urges to destroy buildings, get in fights, etc. The solution to these things is not to help teens to smash windows or shoplift more effectively, but to steer them away from it in the first place. Plus, it only "happens" because teens go out of their way to do it, and society sees fit to egg them on. It's really difficult for teenagers whose parents stay involved to find opportunities to have sex in the first place.
@S3NT13NTGL1TCH I'm not a Christian myself, but I think abstinence is something that gets an unfortunately bad rap. First off, if you're a teen and still in high school, no job prospects and still living with your parents, sex should be the least of your worries. I know there are safe sex practices, and these are great in the hands of responsible adults. But in the hands of gawky, clumsy, hormone-addled teenagers who are still learning to control impulses? Not so much.
@S3NT13NTGL1TCH The truth is that abstinence should be taught with the reasons for it given up front. That disease kills, pregnancy is a possibility, that saving yourself for your spouse is the greatest gift you can give them after loving them, and much more. Young people today see sex glorified on TV, but no one shows the awful effects of this carefree sex. REAL education contains ALL the facts, not just how to use a prophylactic.
@oxguy984 He waited because of his commitment to waiting and respect for her, not because of young lust. His character builds the moral foundation that will only help build and develop their relationship.
@oxguy984 I can see the concern. It's natural to want to have sex as soon as possible after adolescence. Unfortunately, many people do marry young because they're just compatible enough to have sex, but may not be compatible enough to cultivate a meaningful relationship. (And I do not buy the explanation that everyone can become compatible if they just work hard enough. Sometimes it really is beyond our control.) That said, teenagers, should abstain from sex. It really is for the best
@oxguy984 The message is not to get married young, it is simply to be secure in your decision and receive support for your decisions. I also feel that young people should be able to develop themselves and find out who they are meant to be before marriage. I thought this was the land of the free, and to be free from mockery for making such an important decision. Think of how wonderful it will be for a person to come to their future spouse and say I have waited ALL my life for you!
@oxguy984 That comment would be really clever....except that isn't the message. Forcing people into marriage just because they can't control their desire for sex was never promoted here. Perhaps you should go back through the comments and the video itself. Hopefully you'll see that this is a message of self-control, not making rash decisions RATHER than controlling yourself.
It's not verry clever to use a bear when "pedobear" is so famous on the internet. Even if I do not agree with this, another symbol would have been better.
@mrmody That's true, there are many stories in the bible that show different instances of sin for people to learn from instead of having to go through. King David's own son died as a result of his personal sin.
@WiggyMarmot Actually, the couple in this video explained "why." Check out "The Purity Bear Explained." There is a link to it at the very end of this one.
@WiggyMarmot I think he's making a strong statement about his pledge to wait for marriage. Although they're both attractive, he's willing to look past the present moment and voice his concern for her and stand by his commitment to wait! That's a real man!
Keep up the good work! Our grandparents (or great grandparents these days) did it this way, and for many generations before with astounding success! Nothing like a sound track record. Don't get discouraged by all the negative voices! Waiting for marriage is FAR FAR better then making mistakes like this one, which our culture now pushes! Be courageous and bold to stand for the best, and not settle for a cheap imitation!
@Cakiedel The video is supposed to be kind of funny! But the message is serious. The students did a much more in-depth response video that you should consider watching.
Awesome video! Being a teen myself, I think it's so important to wait until marriage because it's so much more meaningful and beautiful that way. Keep up the great work, and I'll be praying for you guys. God bless!
im sorry but i dont understand this whole "purity" what does it matter if you have sex before marriage? what you go to heaven if you wait? Im 15 and im sorry, im not waiting for that. I have come to realize that woman my age do not look for love, and thats a fact, dont get me wrong, there is nothing in this world i want more that a woman to love me for me, but that is not happening any time soon. im not tolling or anything but i dont understand why "purity" is so important
@spartansgestugatenso i found those kids response to be a good explanation of what purity really is, check it out and see what you think. I can't put the link on here, but it's called "The Purity Bear Response" and it's on the same channel.
@silverlake68 I think this is just supposed to show another perspective on the WAY overdone scenario of the guy being more "sexually agressive." If the scenario was shown the other way around, there would probably be even more comments about how stereotypical the video was against men.
Why not teach how to make decisions instead of simply "OBEY" commandments. Thinking and deciding is what free people do, obedience is what you expect from slaves and in totalitarian cultures.
@TheStoreyInstitute Christianity is not about obeying what you are told blindly, but about following a Creator who loves us and knows what's best for us. God gave us freedom to make our own choices and live the way we want, but there are consequences that will hurt us and take away the perfect plan He has set out for us. The bible tells us to save sex for marriage, for our own benefit. Look at all that's come from not waiting, diseases and broken marriages. The stats speak for themselves.
@randomchanges1 I agree that there are consequences. One of the consequences of casting marriage as the only "legitimate" environment to exert sexual impulse is that people will make poor choices about whom to marry, and that's not entirely their fault. Between hormones, and a brain that is not fully developed until (usually) age 25 the lust impulse can make someone who is a terrible match for them "seem" like marriage material.
This is a genuinely well done video... i can see where there is great potential for improvement with their moviemaking... however, abstinence only education is not backed up by the numbers, and when it comes to children's health, i would rather put my faith in numbers than in moral feelings.
I watched the "The Purity Bear" Response video. These people are hardcore Evangelicals. If their love and faith in religion is helping them ignore their natural God given sexual urges and desire. Good for them. Not my cup of tea.
@Centerman2k I appreciate that even though you don't agree with the message, you can still respect someone else's position. I wish we saw more of that in these responses. It's one thing to not understand the message; it's another to bash people for expressing their views.
Isn't he a little old to have a teddy bear as an imaginary friend following him around and whispering in his ear? Some would call that a sign of paranoid schizophrenia.
maybe instead of keeping kids in the dark about sex til the "officially sanctioned time when it's not a sin to do it" we teach them about the emotions, complexities, and yes, even (gasp!) PLEASURES that are associated with it. If we don't give them ANY knowledge, do we really expect a wedding to magically bestow wisdom of sexuality on them? How about telling them it's okay to laugh about it? It's ok if you DIDN'T enjoy it? It can take practice? it takes trust and communication?
@1000huzzahs All that's being advocated here are the benefits of saving sex until marriage out of respect for God and your future spouse. Any other opinions about what you assume Christians believe about sex are based on just that- an assumption.
@Traptintuck check out their latest video, it's called "the purity bear response" they seem to poke fun at the bear but they're serious about the message
Right.

RwehappyRudy 1 month ago
@RwehappyRudy That's sad that you compare humans to mere organisms on the planet. We are so much more, that's seen through the differences between organisms/animals and humans. We have the ability to make conscious decisions and actions and think for ourselves, they do not. I don't think they are saying that sex is bad and that no one should have sex, but rather that sex is for marriage and should be enjoyed in that realm.
californiasuperstar1 1 month ago
@RwehappyRudy Also, I think we are more in danger of overpopulation than under population in the world. There are more risks involved in having many sexual partners than in waiting for marriage and having one partner. I don't think you can compare waiting to have sex to eating and going to the bathroom. If you don't do these things after a while you will die, but you can wait to have sex without these same consequences.

Refalm 1 month ago 2
@Refalm If you are implying that condoms are safer than abstaining from sex, I think you might be wrong. Don't you think not engaging in the act is safer and will produce less causes of pregnancy and STD's than using a condom and having sex? There are actually statistics out there that would say that is so. Along the same lines, abstaining is safer and will not produce STD's such as HPV, which can eventually lead to cancer and which condoms provide almost no protection against.

TrustingDoubt 1 month ago 109
@TrustingDoubt Its true that a lot of people want to wait for their spouse and recognize that as the best option, however, there is a lack of respect, tolerance, and encouragement in our society to keep that decision. It's the most simple video there is. But I understand that religious people can not think for their own.
MegaRoodypoo 1 month ago
@MegaRoodypoo I think this video is for everyone, not just for religous people. How does trying to expalin your point of view to a society where this is somewhat of a "foreign" concept make you someone "who can't think on their own?" Obviously they could think on their own if they made the follow up video with an explanation.
bagels595 1 month ago

1xrosexredx1 1 month ago 3
@1xrosexredx1 No, quite the opposite. Our site DayofPurity org encourages youth to educate themselves and their peers about the benefits of waiting for marriage. Did you know a woman who marries as a virgin has a 76% decreased chance of being divorced? Each year we spend $16.5 Billion dollars on STD treatment. There are SO many different reasons to wait for marriage!
dayofpurity 1 month ago
@dayofpurity Maybe because the same people who believe their god doesn't want them to have sex also believe he doesn't want them to get divorced. That statistic, if true, says nothing about whether waiting for marriage to have sex actually increases the quality of that marriage. An unhappy marriage is not necessarily superior to a divorce.
lizabethswann 1 month ago 4
@lizabethswann When you share a relationship with your spouse that is deeper than with anyone else, when you can trust that they waited for you and will be loyal to you, and they will love you for your whole soul and not just how you can pleasure them, that is what leads to a happier marriage!
dayofpurity 1 month ago
@dayofpurity No its not. Being happy in marriage has nothing to do with being a virgin when you are married. The rest of your post I agree with, but the fact that you try to slip in "that they waited for you" really makes the whole thing miss the point.
narco73 1 month ago
@lizabethswann The reason we have such a high divorce rate is that people are only in it for themselves. The entire point of a marriage is what can I give to my spouse, not what can I get from them. If more attitudes were less selfish, divorce rates would fall at an incredible rate! Thus the entire point of the video, do not be selfish.

charlesfosterkane 1 month ago 4
@charlesfosterkane This is why loyalty within marriage is also important - that is also something the Day of Purity encourages. While there are some other ways to contract an STD, its is most often from infidelity. If you and your spouse wait for each other and stay loyal to each other, your chances of getting it are pretty slim.

@dayofpurity IF IF IF IF IF if you and your spouse wait for each other and stay loyal to each other, your chances of getting it are pretty slim.

@arkboy3 Exactly. That's why we're promoting this. We recognize that not everyone follows through on their commitment, but are you saying we shouldn't bother encouraging them to?

@dayofpurity Correlation does not equal causation. A woman who marries as a virgin more than likely has religious beliefs that speak against divorce as well.
papagena552 1 month ago 7

dayofpurity 1 month ago
As the population soars past 7 billion, I think it's not just irresponsible, but also morally reprehensible to teach abstinence in place of REAL sex education that has been proven to reduce the instance of early pregnancies and STD's. Seriously; it doesn't work and it only assists in the repression of young people as well as those of other sexual orientations. It's time for these people to join the sanity club.
S3NT13NTGL1TCH 1 month ago 10
@S3NT13NTGL1TCH Actually, abstinence works the best at preventing pregnancies :) ask any doctor. Blaming abstinence is illogical - it's precisely the void of abstinence in our culture that causes pregnancies. Nobody gets pregnancy without having sex first. If you're really concerned about the world population, you should be encouraging people to wait for marriage and supporting the Day of Purity!
dayofpurity 1 month ago
@dayofpurity No, it's because there is a lack of sex-ed and it's religion's fault.
chriswonderboy 1 month ago
@chriswonderboy A "lack of sex-ed" doesn't make you pregnant - no one skips a class a has a kid because of it - nor do you get saved and suddenly have a baby.
It's not "religion's fault." It's medically proven that sex is the only thing that gets you pregnant. The Day of Purity encourages and respects people who have made that choice to wait for marriage.
dayofpurity 1 month ago
@dayofpurity Yes, abstinence works. However, it is not a realistic view of how teenagers will behave! It is completely normal and human to have sexual urges during your teen years. Your hormones are going crazy, and your sex organs are developing and maturing. Sex will happen between teens no matter what you do or say. How is it better for them to feel guilty for normal urges than to be smart and prepared and safe? I support sex education 100%. Preaching abstinence is just not practical!
Bridges626 1 month ago
@Bridges626 You have such a negative view of teenagers. Your post says "sex will happen no matter what" - This type of fatalist dismissal of all teens is EXACTLY what the Day of Purity is standing up against! We encourage youth that they can rise above animal instincts and choose the healthier option of waiting for marriage. Many teens have successfully done so and many others will.
dayofpurity 1 month ago
@dayofpurity I don't have a negative view of teenagers at all; I have a realistic one. I don't think that teenagers are evil miscreants who want to have sex to make God angry. I think that sex is a normal, natural thing and teenagers are curious about it! I think that there is nothing wrong with teenagers having sex as long as they are being safe! And in no way am I 'fatally dismissing' them, rather, I don't think we should treat teens as if they are stupid. They're not.
Bridges626 1 month ago
@Bridges626 Sexual urges will develop, so will the urges to destroy buildings, get in fights, etc. The solution to these things is not to help teens to smash windows or shoplift more effectively, but to steer them away from it in the first place. Plus, it only "happens" because teens go out of their way to do it, and society sees fit to egg them on. It's really difficult for teenagers whose parents stay involved to find opportunities to have sex in the first place.
BlueTravesty 1 month ago
@S3NT13NTGL1TCH I'm not a Christian myself, but I think abstinence is something that gets an unfortunately bad rap. First off, if you're a teen and still in high school, no job prospects and still living with your parents, sex should be the least of your worries. I know there are safe sex practices, and these are great in the hands of responsible adults. But in the hands of gawky, clumsy, hormone-addled teenagers who are still learning to control impulses? Not so much.
BlueTravesty 1 month ago
@S3NT13NTGL1TCH The truth is that abstinence should be taught with the reasons for it given up front. That disease kills, pregnancy is a possibility, that saving yourself for your spouse is the greatest gift you can give them after loving them, and much more. Young people today see sex glorified on TV, but no one shows the awful effects of this carefree sex. REAL education contains ALL the facts, not just how to use a prophylactic.

Getting married young for lust. Good message.
oxguy984 1 month ago 154
@oxguy984 He waited because of his commitment to waiting and respect for her, not because of young lust. His character builds the moral foundation that will only help build and develop their relationship.
dayofpurity 1 month ago
@oxguy984 I can see the concern. It's natural to want to have sex as soon as possible after adolescence. Unfortunately, many people do marry young because they're just compatible enough to have sex, but may not be compatible enough to cultivate a meaningful relationship. (And I do not buy the explanation that everyone can become compatible if they just work hard enough. Sometimes it really is beyond our control.) That said, teenagers, should abstain from sex. It really is for the best
BlueTravesty 1 month ago
@oxguy984 Like Romeo and Juliet. Because that turned out SO well!
lotrlvr87 1 month ago 3
@oxguy984 The message is not to get married young, it is simply to be secure in your decision and receive support for your decisions. I also feel that young people should be able to develop themselves and find out who they are meant to be before marriage. I thought this was the land of the free, and to be free from mockery for making such an important decision. Think of how wonderful it will be for a person to come to their future spouse and say I have waited ALL my life for you!
randomchanges1 1 month ago
@oxguy984 That comment would be really clever....except that isn't the message. Forcing people into marriage just because they can't control their desire for sex was never promoted here. Perhaps you should go back through the comments and the video itself. Hopefully you'll see that this is a message of self-control, not making rash decisions RATHER than controlling yourself.

Why not teach how to make decisions instead of simply "OBEY" commandments. Thinking and deciding is what free people do, obedience is what you expect from slaves and in totalitarian cultures.
TheStoreyInstitute 1 month ago
@TheStoreyInstitute Christianity is not about obeying what you are told blindly, but about following a Creator who loves us and knows what's best for us. God gave us freedom to make our own choices and live the way we want, but there are consequences that will hurt us and take away the perfect plan He has set out for us. The bible tells us to save sex for marriage, for our own benefit. Look at all that's come from not waiting, diseases and broken marriages. The stats speak for themselves.
randomchanges1 1 month ago
@randomchanges1 I agree that there are consequences. One of the consequences of casting marriage as the only "legitimate" environment to exert sexual impulse is that people will make poor choices about whom to marry, and that's not entirely their fault. Between hormones, and a brain that is not fully developed until (usually) age 25 the lust impulse can make someone who is a terrible match for them "seem" like marriage material.
