It's not that absurb that people eschew Linux. Windows is established and familiar. That counts for a LOT. Also, people don't buy a computer then shop around for an OS, do they? They're bundled together. It would be absurd if people uninstalled an OS that was bundled with their computer to install a free OS that is so unfamiliar that they couldn't find people to help them with it

There are solutions for the familiarity of the OS, I run XP Theme on Linux, works great. But you have to know the possibilities first.

...about preinstallation, I am pretty sure, that if your government has 10000 computers, then you can quite easily make a deal of buying them with Linux and get them all cheaper. MS makes software, not computers.

But one also has to consider, that shifting from a Windows environment to open source is not nessesarily free or cheaper. The software is free, but there are other important things like compatibility between documents fx.

On the other hand, if all you use in your work all day is Word and Oulook, you could as well use Linux.
