I ran that back a second time to make sure I read that correctly; you've never seen an actor any better than Sylvester Stallone?  The man is a pop culture icon, I'll give you that, but please..I'm not even going mention the mainstream actors out there who are better than him; when he started out he was unique, fresh, quirky and bold (still not a "great" actor), but he degenerated into one of the biggest jokes in Hollywood (Hollywood even!). Let's be honest, okay? I mean, "Over the Top"?, c'mon.

The original Rocky, which made Stallone a star, is an excellent film, a great character study and an old fashioned tale of romance and determination. And no one else but Stallone (I believe) could have inhabited that role the way he did. Paradise Alley is also a good film, full of quirky characters and great lines. But Stallone ruined Rocky with bad sequels and degenerated into a standard action hero in the 80s, destroying everything about him that was unique. Sorry.

Very true; let me leave you with one thought I had: think about what it would have been like if Stallone had made the first Rocky film in 1976, and then made no other Rocky movies until this last sequel, Rocky Balboa. I think it would have made a fascinating character study; the film as it was was a lot less embarrassing than, say, Rocky IV, but would've been all the more poignant if there had been no other bad movies to remember. A quiet introspection of the character.
