oh so sad im crying,, i used to be VERY afraid of pit bulls coz my neighbor has one and this poor dog is so badly treated, once he unleashed himself and attacked my mom (lots of stitches were needed), but my bf just bought a blue pit 6 months ago and im so in love with this amazing dog,, he is so kind and friendly he loves children too, he loves to play with other dogs and loves to be hugged. Now, i trully believe that the owner makes the temper of the dog..

Vickyspin, you might want to let the APBR Thats AMERICAN PIT BULL REGISTRY, the AKC, the UKC, the NAPDR, the NKC, the CKC, the APRI, and the ACR, that the dog they register as an American Pit Bull Terrier isn't a breed.
Staffordshire Bull Terriers are one of the more common breed of dog in Australia. Bull Terriers are also well known here. American Pit Bull Terriers have been a prohibited breed here for a long while now, and the majority of folk wouldn't know one if they saw one.
People here tend to referr to these 'type' of dog as 'pigging dogs'. The same way the americans reffer to these 'type' of dogs as 'pit bulls'.
dont punish the breed for the way some owners treat them bunish the deed not the breed ive had 8 pitts since i was 6 months old my first one i used to ride like a horse and hang from his tail while he drug me around the house my current one is the best babysitter i could ask for my 9 month old daughter he keeps her close when i am busy cooking or cleaning and i would never second guess him about people that come over if he dont like them then there is a good reason pitts are american heroes
Ok, this is a great video and I would LOVE to show it to the classes I teach, however the background music is absolutely terrible!!!!! Why in the world would you put some club-type song with chicks talking about what kind of guys they want to a video promoting pit bulls???? The music is incredibly distracting. I have owned pit bulls my entire life and I love them so much, and I have been looking for a video to raise awareness. This one would be great if the song was not so aweful.

Thank you for putting together this video. I work at an animal hospital and I advocate as much as I can for the "bully breeds". Truth be told, I'd rather work with pitties and other such breeds as they are wonderful dogs and not vicious like the majority of people make them out to be.
Nice collection of old photos. However, Homeward Bound featured several American Bulldogs, Snatch had a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. "Pit Bull" is a shortened version of the UKC/ADBA etc registered name of "American PIT BULL Terrier", just because dummies chose to misuse those words to identify "type" doesn't make using "pit bull" a legitimate shortened name, like a "Lab" or "Springer" or whatever breed shortened. I prefer APBT but that's a mouthful.

I'm deeply depressed of what people think of this Breed. 35 people died on dog bites last year in America. That inc. all breeds not just pit. I don't know what the fuss is about. They r good dogs. And just do what we make out of them.(any dog 4 that matter)People always point the finger on this breed and forget how much good they do. You're right. Banning doesn't help a thing. I live in West Virginia. Most places I know of haven't banned the APBT. We have very few dog attacks anyways. But, when we do, it usually goes un noticed. Until of course the dog is a pit. Then it's all over the news and such.
Ten years isn't enough, people who are cruel enough to fight dogs should spend at LEAST 20 years in prison, if not more, and never be allowed to own animals of any kind again. My sister has a pitbull named Shortie, who she lets play with my two-year-old niece, and he's always gentle with her and will let her do anything she wants. He's even stood quietly while she yanks on his ears and lips, just taking it all in stride. Pit bulls and other large dogs are wonderful animals, don't ban them!

Actually my facts are absolutely correct...all of the dogs listed are "Pit Bull-Type" breeds. The name "pit Bull" can cover a wide variety of breeds including all of the ones named in this vid. There are also over 30 bulldog breeds included as well.

This is an awesome video...I always thought Pitt Bulls were very scarey dogs until I talked with my friend Ted in Alaska..I have seen so many pictures of Ted and his Pit Bull Terriers and they have so much love for each other. I have realize it is never the breed or the dog it is the people who turn them the way they are. Love is never wrong. Give your dog so much love and he or she will save your life one day. Dogs are very forgiving animals when you show them love.

I used to be scared to death of pit bulls untill I actually started doing some research into the best dogs for children. Now I can't get enough of this breed. Fear is based off of pure and simple ignorance. Place a tiger into a darkened room and it is a horrible shapeless monster waiting to destroy you. Turn on the light and it is just an animal. I had my light switched on and now I trust pit bulls, amstaffs, and many other bully breeds more than I would trust many other breeds of dogs.

i have a male that is 1/2 German shepherd, 1/4 boxer, and 1/4 apbt. He's awesome, four yrs old and still has very "puppy" reactions and behaviors (probably the Boxer coming out in him), loves everyone around him, and very protective if the situationn warrants

Do you not think their devotion is what drives them to attack others though? It's almost devotion to the extreme. I mean all I can say about APBT's is that because I have seen all the press, especially that little girl who was mauled to death by an APBT in Liverpool because the dog was 'jealous', that they are vicious at times.
You have to be proactive and stop the behavior before it escalates. Move toward her and make a sound like 'sssst' every time she starts to misbehave. Once she calms down then you can give affection like saying 'good girl'.
The key is stopping her in a split-second. Behavior can go in the red zone very quickly.

thats what most people get dogs for. to deter anyone coming onto their property. i have not ever seen a dog bite someone who their owner shows them is no threat, and who knows the dogs personally. when they bite people it is normally the person who makes the mistake of agitating the dog, even in 'unprovoked attacks' this is normally the case.
so can any other dog, german shepards, doberman, and other type of dog can be TRAINED to attack, hell you could get a beagle to attack if you really trained it. It doesnt mean that the bred is a problem, just the assholes that use them

Please, everyone contact your local SPCA and help fight BSL. It does not work. What does work are laws that ban the chaining of dogs and laws that punish irresponsible owners. i'm the proud owner of two red nose pitboy rescues. i wish the los angeles long beach area had better rescue efforts, as the pounds are dominated by that breed, and they are usually killed, largely due to the negative publicity.

I respect your opinions and views first and foremost but I should clear a few things up. There IS an American Pit (1 t) Bull Terrier, It is recognized by both the UKC and ADBA. I have raised Pits for 15 years so I know they do indeed exist.

I have a twelve year old adba red girl,still a mass of muscle,weighs 56 lbs. I also have recently adopted a amstaff she's a big girl weighs 70 lbs. They are best friends .
On a side note , the previous foster home that the amstaff occupied counld'nt keep her because their golden retriever was jealous and wanted to fight!

my homeowners insurance won't let me have a pit, rott, or doberman. The thing that gets me is that the stats say the top 3 dog breeds that have killed people are, 1 pit bull. 2 rottweiler. 3 german shepherd. the doberman isn't on that list, but I can't have one.
"Pit Bull" in and of itself is NOT a breed, but a gross categorization of several large-headed breeds.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong on this, but one thing I do know is that APBTs look nothing like Bull Terriers other than perhaps a muscular physique.

Thank you for putting together this video. I work at an animal hospital and I advocate as much as I can for the "bully breeds". Truth be told, I'd rather work with pitties and other such breeds as they are wonderful dogs and not vicious like the majority of people make them out to be.

Nice collection of old photos. However, Homeward Bound featured several American Bulldogs, Snatch had a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. "Pit Bull" is a shortened version of the UKC/ADBA etc registered name of "American PIT BULL Terrier", just because dummies chose to misuse those words to identify "type" doesn't make using "pit bull" a legitimate shortened name, like a "Lab" or "Springer" or whatever breed shortened. I prefer APBT but that's a mouthful.

I'm deeply depressed of what people think of this Breed. 35 people died on dog bites last year in America. That inc. all breeds not just pit. I don't know what the fuss is about. They r good dogs. And just do what we make out of them.(any dog 4 that matter)People always point the finger on this breed and forget how much good they do. Shoot, they r the first ones that cry when they need a service dog, or get they butt saved on the airport because the dog is doing his job of finding explosives.

The fact of the matter is that the same potential damage can be expected by any dog in an equal or higher weight range. Why ban this breed and not all large breed dogs? Not that I want all dogs of a larger weight to be banned but It makes no sense! It's unfair and it does not solve anything!

You're right. Banning doesn't help a thing. I live in West Virginia. Most places I know of haven't banned the APBT. We have very few dog attacks anyways. But, when we do, it usually goes un noticed. Until of course the dog is a pit. Then it's all over the news and such.

Ten years isn't enough, people who are cruel enough to fight dogs should spend at LEAST 20 years in prison, if not more, and never be allowed to own animals of any kind again. My sister has a pitbull named Shortie, who she lets play with my two-year-old niece, and he's always gentle with her and will let her do anything she wants. He's even stood quietly while she yanks on his ears and lips, just taking it all in stride. Pit bulls and other large dogs are wonderful animals, don't ban them!

Actually my facts are absolutely correct...all of the dogs listed are "Pit Bull-Type" breeds. The name "pit Bull" can cover a wide variety of breeds including all of the ones named in this vid. There are also over 30 bulldog breeds included as well.
My point is to bring awareness to all of the many breeds which are often included under the blanket term "Pit Bull-Type".

Actually, no. The name Pit Bull does not cover any bully breed you want it to - it's a breed in it's own right. It is NOT an American Bulldog, a Bull Terrier, or a Staff or AmStaff. I'm completely pro-bully dogs, but if you can't even get your facts right, at least refrain from snapping at people who correct you.

This is an awesome video...I always thought Pitt Bulls were very scarey dogs until I talked with my friend Ted in Alaska..I have seen so many pictures of Ted and his Pit Bull Terriers and they have so much love for each other. I have realize it is never the breed or the dog it is the people who turn them the way they are. Love is never wrong. Give your dog so much love and he or she will save your life one day. Dogs are very forgiving animals when you show them love.

I used to be scared to death of pit bulls untill I actually started doing some research into the best dogs for children. Now I can't get enough of this breed. Fear is based off of pure and simple ignorance. Place a tiger into a darkened room and it is a horrible shapeless monster waiting to destroy you. Turn on the light and it is just an animal. I had my light switched on and now I trust pit bulls, amstaffs, and many other bully breeds more than I would trust many other breeds of dogs.

You have to be proactive and stop the behavior before it escalates. Move toward her and make a sound like 'sssst' every time she starts to misbehave. Once she calms down then you can give affection like saying 'good girl'.
The key is stopping her in a split-second. Behavior can go in the red zone very quickly.

thats what most people get dogs for. to deter anyone coming onto their property. i have not ever seen a dog bite someone who their owner shows them is no threat, and who knows the dogs personally. when they bite people it is normally the person who makes the mistake of agitating the dog, even in 'unprovoked attacks' this is normally the case.

The little rascals dog is also a AB. AB are great dogs they are not well known but i like to give them justice where justice is deserved. If you dont know what they are goggle them to learn more. Pssst: If you want to know the breed get the Stratton books.Gives a true glimpse of this wonderful breed.
I have a twelve year old adba red girl,still a mass of muscle,weighs 56 lbs. I also have recently adopted a amstaff she's a big girl weighs 70 lbs. They are best friends .
On a side note , the previous foster home that the amstaff occupied counld'nt keep her because their golden retriever was jealous and wanted to fight!

my homeowners insurance won't let me have a pit, rott, or doberman. The thing that gets me is that the stats say the top 3 dog breeds that have killed people are, 1 pit bull. 2 rottweiler. 3 german shepherd. the doberman isn't on that list, but I can't have one.

STATE FARM insurance does not discriminate any dog breed.

"Pit Bull" in and of itself is NOT a breed, but a gross categorization of several large-headed breeds.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong on this, but one thing I do know is that APBTs look nothing like Bull Terriers other than perhaps a muscular physique.

there are 26 "PIT BULL TYPE" breeds. and no they don't all look the same but some are quite similar. All are targeted by BSL.
