Now, i trully believe that the owner makes the temper of the dog..

Staffordshire Bull Terriers are one of the more common breed of dog in Australia. Bull Terriers are also well known here. American Pit Bull Terriers have been a prohibited breed here for a long while now, and the majority of folk wouldn't know one if they saw one.
People here tend to referr to these 'type' of dog as 'pigging dogs'. The same way the americans reffer to these 'type' of dogs as 'pit bulls'.

Ok, this is a great video and I would LOVE to show it to the classes I teach, however the background music is absolutely terrible!!!!! Why in the world would you put some club-type song with chicks talking about what kind of guys they want to a video promoting pit bulls???? The music is incredibly distracting. I have owned pit bulls my entire life and I love them so much, and I have been looking for a video to raise awareness. This one would be great if the song was not so aweful.

It is not an 'American' dog in any sense of the word. Those with even an inkling of the historical origins of this 'type' of dog know full well that it is a uniquely U.K animal. ( I am not Birtish by the way). But I guess with folks walking around speaking 'American' it should not come as a great suprise that it should be seen as 'originating' here since 'the beginning'. Thank you for putting together this video. I work at an animal hospital and I advocate as much as I can for the "bully breeds". Truth be told, I'd rather work with pitties and other such breeds as they are wonderful dogs and not vicious like the majority of people make them out to be.

Nice collection of old photos. However, Homeward Bound featured several American Bulldogs, Snatch had a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. "Pit Bull" is a shortened version of the UKC/ADBA etc registered name of "American PIT BULL Terrier", just because dummies chose to misuse those words to identify "type" doesn't make using "pit bull" a legitimate shortened name, like a "Lab" or "Springer" or whatever breed shortened. Sadly a lot of people have pit bulls because of their macho image though. I know they can be loving affectionate dogs but a lot of people dont want that, they want killers, or something to oppress and abuse to make them feel better about themselves. The fact of the matter is that the same potential damage can be expected by any dog in an equal or higher weight range. Why ban this breed and not all large breed dogs? Not that I want all dogs of a larger weight to be banned but It makes no sense! It's unfair and it does not solve anything!

You're right. Banning doesn't help a thing. I live in West Virginia. Most places I know of haven't banned the APBT. We have very few dog attacks anyways. But, when we do, it usually goes un noticed. Until of course the dog is a pit. Then it's all over the news and such.
Ten years isn't enough, people who are cruel enough to fight dogs should spend at LEAST 20 years in prison, if not more, and never be allowed to own animals of any kind again. My sister has a pitbull named Shortie, who she lets play with my two-year-old niece, and he's always gentle with her and will let her do anything she wants. He's even stood quietly while she yanks on his ears and lips, just taking it all in stride. Pit bulls and other large dogs are wonderful animals, don't ban them!
This is an awesome video...I always thought Pitt Bulls were very scarey dogs until I talked with my friend Ted in Alaska..I have seen so many pictures of Ted and his Pit Bull Terriers and they have so much love for each other. I have realize it is never the breed or the dog it is the people who turn them the way they are. Love is never wrong. Give your dog so much love and he or she will save your life one day. I used to be scared to death of pit bulls untill I actually started doing some research into the best dogs for children. Now I can't get enough of this breed. Fear is based off of pure and simple ignorance. Place a tiger into a darkened room and it is a horrible shapeless monster waiting to destroy you. Turn on the light and it is just an animal. I had my light switched on and now I trust pit bulls, amstaffs, and many other bully breeds more than I would trust many other breeds of dogs.

i have a male that is 1/2 German shepherd, 1/4 boxer, and 1/4 apbt. He's awesome, four yrs old and still has very "puppy" reactions and behaviors (probably the Boxer coming out in him), loves everyone around him, and very protective if the situationn warrants

You have to be proactive and stop the behavior before it escalates. Move toward her and make a sound like 'sssst' every time she starts to misbehave. Once she calms down then you can give affection like saying 'good girl'.
The key is stopping her in a split-second. Behavior can go in the red zone very quickly.

It is not an 'American' dog in any sense of the word. Those with even an inkling of the historical origins of this 'type' of dog know full well that it is a uniquely U.K animal. ( I am not Birtish by the way). But I guess with folks walking around speaking 'American' it should not come as a great suprise that it should be seen as 'originating' here since 'the beginning'. A fantastic type of dog to be regardless, and and another example of the ingeniousness of the British.

I never said they originated in America...I am well aware of the history. Just because this video focuses on America, does not negate their prior history. I was referring to the impact APBTs made on the foundation of America. They as well as many other Pit Bull-type breeds had a major and significant role here. They still do. I am just bringing attention to the fact that they deserve respect as any other war hero does. They earned it!

Thank you for putting together this video. I work at an animal hospital and I advocate as much as I can for the "bully breeds". Truth be told, I'd rather work with pitties and other such breeds as they are wonderful dogs and not vicious like the majority of people make them out to be.

It's a must the public learn the real nature of pit bulls. 2, at the same time, they R not dogs who should B adopted by first-time dog owners either. A owner without knowledge is likely 2 B miserable & have a miserable dog. They R the "Einsteins of the dog world" & the 1 dog known capable of reasoning. Most males tend 2 B very territorial. The fact remains they were bred 2 fight other animals. Be careful who U get them from. Anyone who would fight them should be "used as bait!

Nice collection of old photos. However, Homeward Bound featured several American Bulldogs, Snatch had a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. "Pit Bull" is a shortened version of the UKC/ADBA etc registered name of "American PIT BULL Terrier", just because dummies chose to misuse those words to identify "type" doesn't make using "pit bull" a legitimate shortened name, like a "Lab" or "Springer" or whatever breed shortened. I prefer APBT but that's a mouthful.

i love this breed. i have never came in contact with one that was mean. everyone that i have come in contact with has been very loving, i just wish people didn't look at them for there reputation and looked at them what they are. but people are so stupid that they have to listen to what the t.v and the media is saying that they don't even take the time to know them. people also don't realize that i little Pomeranian can attack a kid or anyone. I'm deeply depressed of what people think of this Breed. 35 people died on dog bites last year in America. That inc. all breeds not just pit. I don't know what the fuss is about. They r good dogs. And just do what we make out of them.(any dog 4 that matter)People always point the finger on this breed and forget how much good they do. Shoot, they r the first ones that cry when they need a service dog, or get they butt saved on the airport because the dog is doing his job of finding explosives.

the little rascals dog was a staffi,the homeward bound dog was an american bulldog,and dog from babe was a bull terier.The dog from Snatch was in fact a pit bull.I've never seen 2 days in the vally so who knows,you probably got that wrong too.My dog just had 8 puppies this morning so 8+1+3,I have 12 pit bulls I love them 2.I'm not knocking your video,just get your facts straight.Pit bulls get blamed for attacks because of mistaken identity>

Actually my facts are absolutely correct...all of the dogs listed are "Pit Bull-Type" breeds. The name "pit Bull" can cover a wide variety of breeds including all of the ones named in this vid. There are also over 30 bulldog breeds included as well.
My point is to bring awareness to all of the many breeds which are often included under the blanket term "Pit Bull-Type".

Actually, no. The name Pit Bull does not cover any bully breed you want it to - it's a breed in it's own right. It is NOT an American Bulldog, a Bull Terrier, or a Staff or AmStaff. I'm completely pro-bully dogs, but if you can't even get your facts right, at least refrain from snapping at people who correct you.

Sadly a lot of people have pit bulls because of their macho image though. I know they can be loving affectionate dogs but a lot of people dont want that, they want killers, or something to oppress and abuse to make them feel better about themselves. I'm not against them as pets, they are banned in my country yet there are still plenty of dog attacks...currently the beautiful rottweilers are the ones getting the blame. Its just a shame that assholes can own dogs. Or do anything really.

You're right. Banning doesn't help a thing. I live in West Virginia. Most places I know of haven't banned the APBT. We have very few dog attacks anyways. But, when we do, it usually goes un noticed. Until of course the dog is a pit. Then it's all over the news and such.

Ten years isn't enough, people who are cruel enough to fight dogs should spend at LEAST 20 years in prison, if not more, and never be allowed to own animals of any kind again. My sister has a pitbull named Shortie, who she lets play with my two-year-old niece, and he's always gentle with her and will let her do anything she wants. He's even stood quietly while she yanks on his ears and lips, just taking it all in stride. Pit bulls and other large dogs are wonderful animals, don't ban them!

This is an awesome video...I always thought Pitt Bulls were very scarey dogs until I talked with my friend Ted in Alaska..I have seen so many pictures of Ted and his Pit Bull Terriers and they have so much love for each other. I have realize it is never the breed or the dog it is the people who turn them the way they are. Love is never wrong. Give your dog so much love and he or she will save your life one day. Dogs are very forgiving animals when you show them love.

yea i grew up wtih an 80 pound pit named "THE ROCK" he was a beast i rode around the yard on his back when i was a baby he was like a golden retiriever but smarter pits are incredibly smart and if you knw anything GS'S german shpeherds are easier to train and thus easier to train to attack

I used to be scared to death of pit bulls untill I actually started doing some research into the best dogs for children. Now I can't get enough of this breed. Fear is based off of pure and simple ignorance. Place a tiger into a darkened room and it is a horrible shapeless monster waiting to destroy you. Turn on the light and it is just an animal. I had my light switched on and now I trust pit bulls, amstaffs, and many other bully breeds more than I would trust many other breeds of dogs.

To the person that said that were not sure about pits because of a little girl that got mauled. That was very sad but, Chows, labs, german shepards are quicker to attack than a pit. Do a little research on that. Pits just have a bad rap because their appearance and the jerks that raise them. Do you have one? Most likely not, because if you did you wouldnt think the same. Do you not think their devotion is what drives them to attack others though? It's almost devotion to the extreme. I mean all I can say about APBT's is that because I have seen all the press, especially that little girl who was mauled to death by an APBT in Liverpool because the dog was 'jealous', that they are vicious at times.

You have to be proactive and stop the behavior before it escalates. Move toward her and make a sound like 'sssst' every time she starts to misbehave. Once she calms down then you can give affection like saying 'good girl'.
The key is stopping her in a split-second. Behavior can go in the red zone very quickly.

The press is retarded. You shouldnt believe half of the crap you read. They never tell you about any other breeds of dogs attacking people. Ive never seen a vicious pit in my life and yet i've been bitten by a lab. you shouldnt blame the breed for what owners train the dogs to do.
