  • Mike Love has had different chapters in his career of of singing thru his nose. Thsi is an example of ML singing every single note thru his nose.

  • IS THIS THE CHIPMUNKS?

  • Wow, Bob! Thanks for posting this! I LOVE hearing alternate mixes and unreleased work from the Boys and Brian. Once I exhausted everything I'd ever heard by them I had to look elsewhere. Meaning, I had to get my hands on stuff like this. Have you been able to find the stereo backing track to Help Me, Rhonda?

  • for an alternate version, a rarity its a good song, I guess I'm like most people I prefer the overproduced version, nothing beats the sound of Roger McGuinn's Rickenbacker.

  • This version is better and more natural. The other version sounds too artificial and over-produced.

  • Sir, how you ever say this is beyond me! This is poorly done, & under-produced badly!! Terry Melcher & Carl did it right--3 years later. Wolfsky9

  • , This version is from a Tape made in '83, called " Rock & Roll City" & this IS the BB's contribution. 3 Years later, for the 20th Anniversary , Terry Melcher / John Phillips asked the group to re-do it; Carl re-did the charts, & that's the version people know. I have this tape, although it barely plays, it's so old & used! The Association, Paul Revere & The Raiders, Jan & Dean, & Heaven help us, 4 songs by Mike Love , are on this tape.[ Sugar Shack, Da Doo Ron Ron ] Wolfsky9

  • I love the drum machine but I hate Mike's voice on it, the guitar sound better on the final version, and the brass synth sounds like Europe's Final Countdown, still real good though

  • I really like this version. I like the guitar intro and how Mike sings the first verse (as opposed to Al). I even like the drum machine after Mike sings the first verse. The electric organ/synthesizer at 1:16 is great too! The sax solo is the same as the other version. Mike's "Cal...i...forn...ia....dream....in..." in the chorus is also more prominent which I also like. Both versions of this song are great, though. Thanks for the posts, bobssweetinsanity!

  • Hard to beat the original by the Mamas and Papas but this come close!

    {Click BB45s for rare Beach Boys archive}

  • Agreed, however, i dont like the mixing on the Mama's and Papa's version, all the vocals should be in the middle, or, just keep it in mono, instead on having leads on one side, and harmonies on the other, who knows, maybe i'm in the minority here

  • You are a top rate detective - How do you find all these gems?

  • I scour the internet like crazy, i know a few good sites from my obsession with unreleased beatles songs which i post under the youtube name of beatleboybob, if i hear about a song, and i know that it's been leaked, i dont give up until i find it, i have some more that i will be posting in time, i'm also really looking fowards to Al's album, which i hope will be out soon

  • Yeah I can't wait for Al's new album, I heard alot of people don't really like it, I think it's AWESOME!

  • I prefer the BBs version. The vocal intonation of the Mamas and Papas was never as close as the BBs. Mama Cass held them together vocally in my opinion. jhp

  • i have this on a cd! beach boys rarities

  • I can't find it on any of the Beach Boys rarities I've came across...

  • To misterslaughter, This comes from a tape made in '83, called Rock & Roll City, & it's a K-Tel production. My tape is no longer playable, & truthfully, you're hearing the only half way decent song on that tape. 3 years later, as a 20th Anniversary tribute, Carl & Terry Melcher did it right, adding that Rickenbacker 12 string, along with Tom Scott's wailin Alto sax, & the production was done right. This always sounds horribly underproduced . . Wolfsky9

  • great -love the song, love this take

  • Is that Mike on lead instead of AL?

  • Sounds like Mike starts it, then Carl does the "Stopped into a church" verse. Sounds like Al on the last verse.

This sounds like it's from the Radio Shack cassette that came out ~1983-84? It had a few new BBs songs, Jan & Dean songs, and others. I've never found this CA Dreamin' version elsewhere. I prefer it to the easily found version.

  • This version has that Mattel Toy / Radio Shack / Barbie Doll kind of sound, and i never cared for it LOL LOL ...but I bought it anyway

  • Comment removed

  • It sounds like it was recorded in a tin can and sung thru the nose by ML

  • @BeachBoysGuy1

    ;o)

I may be wrong but it also sounds sped up a bit.

  • Hey, bobssweetinsanity....what a GREAT find! Thanks for hunting the beach for the rest of us!

  • thanks, and the hunt shall continue, until the tide comes in.....or i run out of songs, i attempted to clean the audio a bit for this song, i think it came out O.K, i dont know, only really removed the hiss, and E.Q'd it
