On January 4, has been 26 years since you went away, but you will always be among us Phil. The Thin Lizzy is still one of my favorites. This fantastic music is never lost.
Afro....check, thin tash....check, dangly earrings....check, crisp white shirt....check,white necklace thing....check, leather strides....check, black bass with extremely shiny mirror thing....check, Phil Lynott the king of cool, RIP.
A plethora of talent unseen ever since their demise. There have been a few reincarnations of the band without Phil, but far short of the mark.
Tinn Lizzy/Hoodoo Rhythm Devils led by Johnny Conlon from Dundalk, Ireland are by far, the best at recreating the true sound. Look either up on Youtube and see for yourself. By the way I have no vested interest, I'm just a fan.
Lizzy had everything for me. They were flash & swashbuckling but they had the talent to back it up. When I first heard them back in the 70s, I knew this was the sountrack to my life. I'm now 46 & still a Lizzy maniac. They always were & always will be the greatest band to have ever graced this earth. There is no argument.
@455Transam That's ironic because I think The Who are good but they don't get in my top 10. So who are your top 10 bands? I'm intrigued. Lizzy are easily number one for me.
@whitbyjet65 My Top 10? Just off the top of my head, I'd probably edit it some but.... 1. The Beatles 2. The Who 3. Led Zeppelin 4. Hendrix 5. Stones 6. Bad Company 7. Aerosmith 8. Deep Purple 9. Jefferson Airplane/Starship 10. Chicago
@455Transam Good choices except Aerosmith & Chicago. Is Chicago a joke???? Jefferson Airplane? Dubious. Still Lizzy at the top for me followed by UFO & Black Sabbath. But whatever bands we choose & in what order, they're all a million light years better than the crap out there today.
lol i heard bono say in an interview ''if we play good we are the best band in the world'' and they ar not even the best band in ireland because thats LIZZY
I was just listening to the Rockpalast version of this song and there was a huge difference, the vocals and guitar were crap in the other version, but this version is way better.
TOTP crowd... the worst dancers in the world ...when those people in the crowd look back at this video hopefully the image of them bobbing up and down on the spot to one of the greatest rock bands ever should make them ashamed!
@fultonfroth TOO RIGHT! (I have lived in the UK and my boyfriend there, who had been born in 1965, grew up loving Lizzy). All Americans have ever heard is the one US hit they ever managed to have: The Boys Are Back in Town. It's a national tragedy. How can people like you and me create a community that's all about spreading the word? Rebecca
Phil is dam fine looking and sounds amazing unreal!Miss him so,he really was a genius, one of a kind man!I will love him forever!!!Cheryl Delaware US Forever Philip Parris Lynott Just the best ever and so glad i had the chance to see him in 1980 just amazing man!!!!!
Lip Syncing....Miming....Whatever you like to call it was the norm in the '70's and '80's on TOTP and these foreign channels. Am I bothered?? Not bloody likely, at the time all I wanted to do was see and hear the groups I liked on the box as there was no chance of seeing them live as did thousands of others I bet
Roll me over turn me round and I will move my fingers up and down, up and down.(Did he really play his guitar in bed at his girls request, brilliant!)
majority of the world's best bands have already broken up or disbanded only a fraction of them is still among us. I want to thank all of those people that I've already outlived, but you make every single day special to me.
on monday morning I'll stick thin lizzy CD in my car's stereo and tape down the CD slot for good!
@rickfisk Yes by far the best thin lizzy guitar team,my biggest regret in my life as a rock fan was to never see this line up play live, seen the new band about 5 yrs ago when they toured in the uk with deep purple and styx and they were not up to the standard of this line up.
Well, I guess too that the biggest mistake would be to take somebody like Gary for a "band member". Gary was (and still is) his own patriot. A great song writer and performer but definitely not the kind of guy for supporting the sound of a group other than in his own thinking. He is too "individual" for that.
And so I also think that Gorham/Robertson was the best to happen to Thin Lizzy. No Gary Moore could replace them there.
Wonder if Robbo's white cords (pants) will come back in fashion? Complete with Budgie smuggler??? Ha Ha. Seriously the band were at there peak in this performance!!!
I have to say I have never known a band that is so "Loved" By it's fans... Those who saw them live will know what I mean??? Without doubt Lizzy's music will live on for a very long time!!
Could this be the most spot-on rock performance of the late '70s? Possibly! I've only been a proper dedicated Lizzy fan for the past year or so, thanks to my British partner who grew up alongside (I'm a mere 35 years old), but the energy, the skill and the perfect timing are remarkable. Phil Lynott's cheek during the coda: priceless. And to take someone else's work to an altogether higher plane: bravo!
I love this song! It was the first Thin Lizzy song I remember seeing on TOTP. There used to be a priest at the church I went to at the time who looked a bit like Phil Lynott. Now there was a guy who could sing and play bass well, he's right up there with the likes of Quatro, McCartney, Sting, and Steve Kilbey. Shame he died so young. RIP Phil.
from the album black rose yes my mam said ;-) she was a big fan of Phil lynott she has 3 daughters named after thin lizzy songs me Roisin Sarah and Kathleen she met phil lynott when she was 15 at a concert in Macroom and he gave her a kiss on the cheek she tells us she didnt wash her face for a week ;-)

What a band!! Even in '78 the talent oozing from Thin Lizzy eclipses nearly every other band of the time or since. So obviously live and perfectly flawless.

@whitbyjet65 Aerosmith is the greatest "American" Rock band IMOP.....decades of hits and repeated success even after being left for dead around 1980.
CHICAGO (I'm talking early Chicago) was a great band and had a LOT of talent, Jimi Hendrix said TERRY KATH was the best guitarist he ever saw!
I'm not a fan of the "Pop" Chicago of the last couple decades.

myrainbow must have lifted this from a t.v. studio (she USED to work at!) GREAT video quality. Really NICE sound. Love TL's version of this song so much better than Bob Seger's! Never saw this before on TOTP. Thanx for posting, rainbow!
