  • Love this........ still got the vinyl under the stairs.

  • Bono is not even worthy to take out Phil's trash.

  • Racism did Phil Lynott be less well known in the world but people who enjoy the true Best Rock Band can find them all.

  • saw em at leeds queens hall in 78ish amazing gig

  • bast band EVER!

  • I'm only 16, but Thin Lizzy are absolutely amazing - total credit to my Dad for playing them to me from birth! <3

  • @TheFlapjack95 thumbs up for your dad!

  • those guys were so fucking cool!!

  • @dreadtodred hell yeah

  • Afro....check, thin tash....check, dangly earrings....check, crisp white shirt....check,white necklace thing....check, leather strides....check, black bass with extremely shiny mirror thing....check, Phil Lynott the king of cool, RIP.

  • Much Better than Guns N´ Roses.

  • A plethora of talent unseen ever since their demise. There have been a few reincarnations of the band without Phil, but far short of the mark.

Tinn Lizzy/Hoodoo Rhythm Devils led by Johnny Conlon from Dundalk, Ireland are by far, the best at recreating the true sound. Look either up on Youtube and see for yourself. By the way I have no vested interest, I'm just a fan.

  • 100% irish and proud of it

  • Check out the original by Bob Seger...this version is just OK!

  • Look at Phil throwing a shape @0:26. That's what I want from my rock stars. Bloody brilliant!!!!!

  • Without question, the coolest band in the history of our solar system.

  • Lizzy had everything for me. They were flash & swashbuckling but they had the talent to back it up. When I first heard them back in the 70s, I knew this was the sountrack to my life. I'm now 46 & still a Lizzy maniac. They always were & always will be the greatest band to have ever graced this earth. There is no argument.

  • @whitbyjet65 I'm a Lizzy fan but they can't hold a candle to THE WHO........I can't even put Lizzy in the Top 10 Best Bands of All Time.

  • @455Transam That's ironic because I think The Who are good but they don't get in my top 10. So who are your top 10 bands? I'm intrigued. Lizzy are easily number one for me.

  • @whitbyjet65 My Top 10? Just off the top of my head, I'd probably edit it some but.... 1. The Beatles 2. The Who 3. Led Zeppelin 4. Hendrix 5. Stones 6. Bad Company 7. Aerosmith 8. Deep Purple 9. Jefferson Airplane/Starship 10. Chicago
  • @455Transam Good choices except Aerosmith & Chicago. Is Chicago a joke???? Jefferson Airplane? Dubious. Still Lizzy at the top for me followed by UFO & Black Sabbath. But whatever bands we choose & in what order, they're all a million light years better than the crap out there today.

  • @whitbyjet65 Aerosmith is the greatest "American" Rock band IMOP.....decades of hits and repeated success even after being left for dead around 1980.

CHICAGO (I'm talking early Chicago) was a great band and had a LOT of talent, Jimi Hendrix said TERRY KATH was the best guitarist he ever saw!

I'm not a fan of the "Pop" Chicago of the last couple decades.

  • @whitbyjet65 I'm also a big fan of Blues Rock......bands like FOGHAT, J GEILS, BLACK CROWS ect.....

  • @whitbyjet65

    Swashbuckling eh? I like that.

  • @whitbyjet65 I agree with you, The best ever :-)

  • lol i heard bono say in an interview ''if we play good we are the best band in the world'' and they ar not even the best band in ireland because thats LIZZY

  • Phil Lynott what else can you say <3

  • Wish I was Scott Gorham..then

  • I was just listening to the Rockpalast version of this song and there was a huge difference, the vocals and guitar were crap in the other version, but this version is way better.

  • Gorham and Robertson were the best duo Lizzy ever had, even better than sykes and Gorham.

  • @163388416 As a Lizzy fan since the 70s, I thought the Sykes era was the worst for Lizzy. He was too metal.

  • @whitbyjet65 Yeah I agree

  • @163388416 Good man!

  • Lizzy kicks U2's ass anyday, and they always will.

  • His Mam is proud

  • TOTP crowd... the worst dancers in the world ...when those people in the crowd look back at this video hopefully the image of them bobbing up and down on the spot to one of the greatest rock bands ever should make them ashamed!

  • Two people never met Rosalie...

  • My name is Rosalie, because my MOM always heard this song. And yeaah. I'm proud of my name : )

  • awesome, love you always phil <3

  • why doesnt fender make a phil lynott signature bass?

  • @fultonfroth TOO RIGHT! (I have lived in the UK and my boyfriend there, who had been born in 1965, grew up loving Lizzy). All Americans have ever heard is the one US hit they ever managed to have: The Boys Are Back in Town. It's a national tragedy. How can people like you and me create a community that's all about spreading the word? Rebecca

  • Bob Seger wrote and performed this song.

  • @JoeAble72 with thanks to phil

  • What about Belfasts own Eric Bell?...........LEGEND!!!

  • Phil is dam fine looking and sounds amazing unreal!Miss him so,he really was a genius, one of a kind man!I will love him forever!!!Cheryl Delaware US Forever Philip Parris Lynott Just the best ever and so glad i had the chance to see him in 1980 just amazing man!!!!!

  • phil lynott was a genius. i hope that gary moore and him are playing for all the people in the sky.

  • Of rock music i mean

  • Monkey on the tree

  • Much better than "The Boys are Back in Town."

  • Lip Syncing....Miming....Whatever you like to call it was the norm in the '70's and '80's on TOTP and these foreign channels. Am I bothered?? Not bloody likely, at the time all I wanted to do was see and hear the groups I liked on the box as there was no chance of seeing them live as did thousands of others I bet

  • Lip Syncing! Watch @ 1:57 when Phil points, you can still hear the bass part being played!!

  • @Milewskige TOTP always had lipsyncing, it was their thing

  • philo has more rock star than bono has in his little finger.

  • I always knew Robbo did the solo on this...Just blew Gorham away. This and Still in Love with you..amazing solos.

  • phil is like stevie wonnder hits hts hits Orgmas songs

  • Phil was a genius musican,rip

  • why does Phil have a clothespeg on the 3rd string strum?

  • Comment removed

  • One of the best covers of a Seger song out there.

  • thin lizzy>led zeppelin.

  • Roll me over turn me round and I will move my fingers up and down, up and down.(Did he really play his guitar in bed at his girls request, brilliant!)

  • Cosmos bless Phil for doin his thing when everyone else was tryin to be a Punk Rocker!

  • 2:34 Cowboy Song...WTF?!?!??!?!?

  • @scorpionsfanzrw

    Cowgirl Song! :)

  • Some rock stars don't really like look like rock stars, especially modern ones but Phil is more or less the stereotypical rock star, cool as fuck!

  • these irish boyz could rock it.....

  • majority of the world's best bands have already broken up or disbanded only a fraction of them is still among us. I want to thank all of those people that I've already outlived, but you make every single day special to me.

on monday morning I'll stick thin lizzy CD in my car's stereo and tape down the CD slot for good!

thanks phil, jimi, mr page, mr gibbons, everyone!

  • Man do they LOOK great here. Phil was a friggin' STUD a friggin' ROCKER

  • Sadly missed but not forgotten. If only Phil were alive today he would be packing out stadiums!

  • its the way scott actually looks round when phil says turn around

  • No offense to fans of Gary Moore but Scot Gorham and Brian Robertson was just the best two guitar punch ever. They were just brilliant together.

  • @rickfisk Yes by far the best thin lizzy guitar team,my biggest regret in my life as a rock fan was to never see this line up play live, seen the new band about 5 yrs ago when they toured in the uk with deep purple and styx and they were not up to the standard of this line up.

  • @rickfisk Maybe ? Fact is ! Gary was much better than Brian and he was a big friend from Phil .

Good times good bands !! Now they are together !

  • @rickfisk

Well, I guess too that the biggest mistake would be to take somebody like Gary for a "band member". Gary was (and still is) his own patriot. A great song writer and performer but definitely not the kind of guy for supporting the sound of a group other than in his own thinking. He is too "individual" for that.

And so I also think that Gorham/Robertson was the best to happen to Thin Lizzy. No Gary Moore could replace them there.

  • oh hell yes wicked version and at the bbc & no fake lip snyc as usealy did back then...fucking awesome version !

  • this is to mark my sisters dfirst birthday. rosalie, born 1977.

    when aaas one.

  • At 2:50 on the left you can see a very beautiful girl... or very lucky at least.

  • @danstortion

Nah! That was Scott Gorham! ;)

  • @UliJones Ah ah ah! No, he's on the right, Wino is on the left...

  • ive just listened to bob segers version for the first time. no way near as good as lizzys. phil and the boys where smart to speed the song up.

  • kinda cool and weird that Phil was only 29 years old here he looks like 32-35

  • @Grumberf

    It's the 'tache.

  • So help me, every time I hear a cover, I wonder if the band has any idea what (or who) they're singing about......

  • First time I've heard Thin Lizzy's version. Sounds like something from a hit music factory; no true spirit. Check out the original from Seger.

  • 100% live - thin lizzy - the greatest ever- phil you are sorely missed:(

  • Is this version alive? Anybody knows?

  • they are not lipp synicing. Brian kicked ass!

  • Simply one of the best bands ever and thats it....

  • Wonder if Robbo's white cords (pants) will come back in fashion? Complete with Budgie smuggler??? Ha Ha. Seriously the band were at there peak in this performance!!!

I have to say I have never known a band that is so "Loved" By it's fans... Those who saw them live will know what I mean??? Without doubt Lizzy's music will live on for a very long time!!

  • Its a peavy mustang bass.

  • Phil Lynott...the personification of a soulful, poetic, cool, mischievous, genius songwriter...who is Bono anyway lol

  • 1:40

  • Sedih ? kapal dunia akan mengingat Anda dengan sukacita yang Anda inginkan !

  • They could of included this on the greatest hits dvd. There are other totp performances on there in the extras so why not this?

  • Without doubt, the best band the universe has ever seen.

  • Saw them Paradiso in Amsterdam last tuesday! Still rocking! Paradiso

  • @spanie i was there too!

  • This Friday in Madrid. Everybody there!!!!

  • there is a GOD his name is phil.

  • cause murder here,,,,,, prefare rob to gary, , , , , seen both live with lizzy,,,,, rob was just easier playing

  • YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH MY FAVE RAVE BAND OF ALL TIMES 1973---1978. SAW THEM LIVE 1975-----THE BEST LINE UP WITH ROBBO WOW-

  • Eu queria ter a voz desse cara !!!

  • - one of the greatest bands ever ! and Rosalie is my fav.

  • Could this be the most spot-on rock performance of the late '70s? Possibly! I've only been a proper dedicated Lizzy fan for the past year or so, thanks to my British partner who grew up alongside (I'm a mere 35 years old), but the energy, the skill and the perfect timing are remarkable. Phil Lynott's cheek during the coda: priceless. And to take someone else's work to an altogether higher plane: bravo!

  • Brian Robertson doesn't look so good in this video.

  • @cheifguggletram when did he ever look good lol still great tho

  • This really epitomizes "guitar rock". So F'n good. RIP Phil

  • I love this song! It was the first Thin Lizzy song I remember seeing on TOTP. There used to be a priest at the church I went to at the time who looked a bit like Phil Lynott. Now there was a guy who could sing and play bass well, he's right up there with the likes of Quatro, McCartney, Sting, and Steve Kilbey. Shame he died so young. RIP Phil.

  • 0 people are... Oh wait you cant dislike a Thin Lizzy video

  • Phil is the coolest motherfucker ever!!

    RIP....You will never be forgotten.................

  • And I'll move my fingers up and down, up and down...I'm still using that line.

  • Zero people disobeyed her openly.

  • Brian Robertson > Scott Gorham in this video!

  • @tplessner4 Dislike

  • @Drewcole314 Hey man, I love Scott G! I'm just saying, In THIS video Brian is showing up Scott a little bit!

  • Great track from a greatt band. Thanks for sharing!

  • That was awesome when they played that bit from Cowboy song :D

Rosalie is such a beastly song

  • Wow, what hotness.

  • very good song

  • fuck me! it doesn't get cooler than this..

  • from the album black rose yes my mam said ;-) she was a big fan of Phil lynott she has 3 daughters named after thin lizzy songs me Roisin Sarah and Kathleen she met phil lynott when she was 15 at a concert in Macroom and he gave her a kiss on the cheek she tells us she didnt wash her face for a week ;-)

  • Delicious rocking song. RIP Phil.

  • Aint much too say, I think Phil was crazzy when he played It back in 1975, but when he did it at live at Live and Dangerouse! It got be my favorite cover made by a Band ever!

Good Tune here too I like Thin lizzy! :)

Rip Phil you were Talanted! a gift! a frontman!

  • Ya know,I go to these videos only meaning to watch n listen,..but,in the end,I cant help but comment. These guys were HOT! Especially Phil. He's soo slick. I just love htis song!

  • REAL ROCKERS !

  • @beatlebabe6766 Yeah LIZZY are the real deal, bands these days just don't cut it!

  • Just fantastic ! Noted that Robbo has the exact same guitar as me. Made my day!

  • im called roisin after this song

  • @berniebop39 Are you sure you are not called Roisin after another Thin Lizzy song ... Roisin Dubh .. Black Rose ? ...Rosalie is originally a Bob Seger song.

  • The real deal!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great totp appearance by one of the best live bands ever- for me.

  • Probably one of the manliest bands of the 70's besides Zeppelin and AC/DC.

  • What a band!! Even in '78 the talent oozing from Thin Lizzy eclipses nearly every other band of the time or since. So obviously live and perfectly flawless.

  • Kick ass band, Phil shines like a diamond and the rest of the band is top class!

  • Lizzy at their peak!

  • Duel Les Pauls (ballsy to the max), a shiny Rogers drum kit, a reflective face-plate on the Fender bass, super talented rockers and a kick-ass song by Seger - what can be better than this? Flash with talent to back it!

  • @ronbo11 the first black irish man/

  • @ronbo11 I When did phil first put the refelctive face plate on the Fender Bass. As I know Thin Lizzy supported Status Quo around 1973 at That time Alan Lancaster had just put something similar on his Bass. Did Phil get the idea from Alan or did Alan get the Idea from Phil

  • @ronbo11 Dual.

  • @ronbo11 Better words could not have been said! RIP Phil!

  • @ronbo11 Great comment ronbo.

  • damn, Phil is cool like a panther .

  • Comment removed

  • How about those people "dancing" in the front row?

  • Uau! Scott Gorham is so sexy!

  • Great band - much love for the lads & Phil so bloody cool..

  • i love way scott gorham bends his legs out like he's going to have a crap

  • I love the little shape Phil throws at 0:26 it illustrates what a great frontman he was, the bridge is my favourite part of this song, I also throw shapes whenever I play that bit!! One of the greatest bands and live performers ever!!

  • Aint this Bob Segers Song? But Thin Lizzy Made It 100% better.

  • I think both are excellent!

  • where are the band members now?

  • Still alive. but Robbo's a drunk and lost his talent, Scott still plays with the re-incarnation of the band, Downey also... oh and er Phil's in heaven. ;)

  • Phil Lynott didnt just write great songs, he was amazing performer.

Phil Lynott is a true lengend.

  • What an amazing singer Lynott was.

  • this clip is a boner-isaster!

  • The classic lizzy line up ! No one could touch them.. Legends!

  • Robbo's solo on this still sends shivers down my spine after 30 years...brilliant clip from a brilliant band.

  • a fantastic song from one legend of a band

  • This one rocks!

  • That Was Awesome

  • myrainbow must have lifted this from a t.v. studio (she USED to work at!) GREAT video quality. Really NICE sound. Love TL's version of this song so much better than Bob Seger's! Never saw this before on TOTP. Thanx for posting, rainbow!

  • What great quality great video

  • its great quality and live too, cheers for posting!

  • Comment removed
