Basically with 4 wheel drive each wheel is constantly being driven at the sametime. The same amount of power is at each wheel. Whereas with permanent awd the cars onboard computer is constantly monitor the wheels to detect slippage so power may be deverted from so wheel to another. Say your turning into a corner at high speeds and the rear end start to go out. The computer detects that and cuts power from the rear wheels and sends it to the front preventing oversteer.

i think you have it backwards, because i remeber the honda CR-V has "realtime 4wd" which only drives the front wheels until it loses grip then uses hydraulics pressure or something it engage the rear wheels. As for Awd, i remember that ken block's subaru has a stock transmission along with its drivetrain and all 4 wheels keep spinning throughout.

not really. awd gets u through the snow pretty good compared 2 a 2 wheel drive vehicle. drove the rogue in the snow and all other 2 wheel drive cars were stuck trying 2 get up the hill but i went around everybody! it has all wheel drive lock also splits 50/50

These luxury SUV's like this and the Lexus RX aren't made for things even this extreme but you should have got the new 2010 Lexus RX350. It had a snow mode (I think this had one too) and it has a AWD lock which would have helped in this situation I think

The FX35, 45 & 50 have all snow mode. This retard is not just punishing his car but stupid as well. When the VDC is engaged, it will feed more power to the wheel that has traction and less to the ones not having traction. The fact that both wheels are turning shows he is not engaging the VDC. He needs a horse driven carriage not a luxury car
