Great video as always Shawn. When I hit certain balls I get that really "heavy" feeling in the clubhead just post impact. In those swings, the clubhead heads for the follow thru position with some authority.
I find myself chasing this feeling in my golf swing on the range with limited success. I think this post will help me make it happen more often.
Interesting theory! Just that you dont cross your legs before the release of the hammer, and the reason why you want to use both shoulders is not to keep control. its to increas radius. Good Idea anyway! I throw hammer, check my vid :)
Nice technique Ohedd! I agree with you on the radius...this is the reason I don't like the long or the belly style putters as they are anchored in one place instead of 2 which has a wider radius at the bottom of the putting stroke...I use your hammer throw analogy for the feel of a very important aspect of the dynamic balance in the golf swing;
WOW! that is awesome. I'm not really a golfer but my mom is and she really wants me to! But I am a hammer thrower so maybe I can use this tip and get better so thank you very much!
Very Cool! I was wondering if any of you guys were going to comment; I think what you do is totally spectacular and that you should have no problem with the golf swing; When you go to my website at shawnclementgolf dot com check out the "Swing Plane", "Taut Arms", "Arm Motion", "Swing Sequence" and "Sequence Power Drills" for your swing; Shawn
Shawn, should we focus our attention on the weight of the club head inertia or the weight of the hands together pulling on the shoulders at impact? I notice the hands more with the weighted club and since the hands should be forward at impact the club head is not necessarily the extension of inertia at impact, correct?
It is the Club and Arm unit pulling of the shoulders through the downswing to follow through; Also, a little in the backswing as you toss the arm and club unit into the backswing;
first off, thanks for the great tips. I will definately get your DVD.
I think i have the swing nailed up until after the arms fall infront of the chest. from there to the impact im still alittle unsure what to do with the arms. Should there be any concious effort to release the arms and roll the wrists, or should this go on its own if all else is done correctly? I've heard the leading arm(left for me since im a righty) should be the one pulling down through the ball.
You will find all my videos on You tube start with "Golf Pro Lesson..."
The videos you want to see are: "...Arm Motion", "...Right or Left?", "...contact and Spin", "...Through Ball","...Leverage Power"
Let me know how you do; I can send you an invoice through Paypal for the DVD if that is OK, so if you can email me at shawn@shawnclementgolf dot com I can respond back to you then; Shawn
So if i understand the "Right or Left" video correctly the dominant hand/arm should always be dominant also in the downswing?
I think the analogy some other teacher used was dragging a carriage vs. pushing it. point beeing it would easier get off-line if pushed (left=drag right=push).
If you go to the arm motion video, and get to the position just before impact and imagine someone holding the clubhead and you were pulling; feel how you would be also pulling with your right arm, elbow first and you would feel it in your right pectoral muscle, Lat, firm bicep etc. Then be aware that you pull also with the left side and this pull is from the ground up;
i prefer the analygy of a bucket of water. if you get a bucket of water half full and swing it at arms length around you and keep swinging it, you wikk not get covered in water! lol with regards to the golf swing, keeping one arm fully extended through out the swing through the pull of inertia is what this will help with
Wow, i went out this weekend and had the best ball striking days i have had in a long time. My drives were more powerful, my irons were crisp. Your drills are truly unique, with a way to describe that is easy to understand and implement. Although hitting balls with the step drill was not very productive, i found that rehearsing it prior to actual hitting the ball helped a whole lot
When swinging the Momentus weighted club, I notice a jerking motion on the downswing after impact position. I feel this is caused by the straightening of the right arm. Do you have a similar experience?
Working on this some more, I notice that if I brace/pull back just after the impact zone the jerking stops. I can kinda see this in Ben Hogan's swing with the right leg braced in. I'm interested in your comments.
That's right! The force of inertia is very strong through impact and you must brace for this; the one leg drill comes to mind with the butt returning away from the target to counter that force smoothly and seemlessly;
Hi Bart; this tells me that your swing sequence is late...you are letting the momentus club swing down before planting the left side...or you are getting too far from the left side in the backswing; see if it tugs the same way with your feet together;
Yes with feet together, keeping in mind that my right arm is not extended til after impact. If I hold my left wrist firmly, more than a normal, I can elivate the tug. I actually feel the my hips more in both directions - no sway.

Good comprehensive clip, thank you Shawn!
Although I'm not totally sure if I should also imitate the scream of the hammer throwers on the golfcourse ;)

That Scream is great for the long Drive competitors, but it would not go down so well at Augusta National! LOL
Thanks for your comment;
