  • How'd you get the mic output to sound like that?

  • @naanod

I was using one of my carbon microphones. The other ones were packed away. Check out "Bing" microphones.

  • sounds like you are together with neil armstrong in space.

  • oh man. get a decent mic :P

  • @LzI

    I have a few.

  • Great demo man! Much appreciated. I just bought a TM-1 because of these tonezzzzzzzzz. Thanks for recording and posting.

  • @kostaStratigos

Hey! I just saw this one. Sorry about that. The TM-1 is my favorite yellow box. I hesitated on getting one for quite some time, but Hawt Damn! I love it. It also really goes well with my Wretch Machine. I'll have to bust out a video of that one of these days... If I can ever leave my Euro-rack alone.

  • I never understood the "ring modulator" on this module. On mine its not summing and dividing the two signals, just mixing them together. Are you able to get a pure sum difference signal out of yours? Its possible also that the machine is misappropriatly called a ringmodulator, when in fact it is a waveshaper in which you can also mix signals.

  • Fair points. I don't have a schematic or block diagram so I just roll with the nomenclature provided.

It is possible that the devices is inappropriately called a ring-modulator. However, it is appropriately called an FSU and/or Bringer of Yellow Sonic Death and Dysentery.

  • Hehe- true on the naming. I would rather have called it a Tubey Dirtulator since i use it mostly as such. :) I am still a bit disappointed that it doesnt give a ring-modulated signal.

  • is the adsr controlled by the cv coming from the voyager to the tm-1?

  • Yes. Exactly.

  • so let me get this right.

im going to need a synth that can send CV. this CV is sent to the TM-1. send the audio to TM-1 to. then send the mix into the VCA, which is also being controled by the same CV? is that right?

  • Here's how it went:

Moog audio output to TM-1 input

TM-1 output to Blacet VCA signal input

Vostok Oscillator to TM-1 Ringmod Carrier

Pitch CV out of Voyager to Vostok Osc.

ADSR out of Voyager to Blacet VCA's CV input

Optionally, you can connect a Mod Wheel output, joystick, or any EG to the TM-1's VCA CV or Beam CV inputs for added fun.

  • thanks for your feedback ;-)

    very imformative

  • hi mate,

I have a TM-1, and been thinking I need a VCA or some sort to control the beast. so was very interesting in your set up

is the Blacet the best choice for this task? I know you own one and so choose to use it, Im just assuming you did a bit of research so might now more about what options are out there. what are the strengths of using the blacet vca?

    cheers

  • Any VCA will do. Just run the TM-1 into it and use the ADSR from your synth (in my case the Moog Voyager) to open/close the final VCA.

I used the Blacet simply because it was nearer to the TM-1 than the other VCAs that I have.

  • How do you like the metasonix modules? I have an Assmaster that at different frequencies sound great but others you can not tell if it is on or not.

  • I'm a bit of a Metasonix fan. I've got an Assblaster that is getting repaired at the moment. I've also got the TM-1 in this video, a TM-2 &, as you can see, a Wretch Machine. Oh, and an R51 Euro-module. Out of the modules, the TM-1 and R51 are my favorites although the TM-2 is damn close. The Wretch machine is unique and can sound quite warm and lovely. However, it is a cantankerous bastard; especially about tuning.

  • Excellent!

I think you need to get a Moon Modular M569 sequencer to run your Voyager for the ultimate Lunar Experience! ;-)

  • Don't tempt me, man! You know that I'm weak... I think I'll live with the Octopus for now... just got an Encore Expressionist yesterday too.

  • Hey, weird! Just by happenstance, I was looking at your comment while listening to Supper's Ready by Genesis and it kind of lined up like you were playing along! Sure, not exactly Dark Sied Of The Moon with Wizard Of Oz but . . .(maybe it's from all the nasty stuff I was just breathing trying to cut down a steel shelf . . . ) Anyways, start your video right at 20:04 of Supper's Ready (first chime).

  • John, you old Prog Geezer... I don't even know the song that you are mentioning here! 20:04? I don't have that kind of attention span!

  • LOL. Get the Foxtrot album by Genesis and listen to it continuously until you understand! (could take years ;-)

  • Dirty and beautiful! Love it.

  • Thanks! You guys have some of the consistently best-quality synth videos on YouTube!

  • Congratulations! An awesome machine.

  • Dankeschön! I've recently come up with a very cool patch uses the Metasonix TM-2 and a totally different Voyager patch that involves oscillator sync. I've connected the Key Pressure (aftertouch) CV output (VX-351) to the filter sweep of the TM-2. It's pretty damn great!

  • :D I get it! "Lunar"... "Moon"! :D

I agree. I find it gorgeous and inspiring.

  • you sound like yer talking from the moon. :) nice lunar it really is pretty.

  • @syzygywell The Moon is just far enough away to where I can make these noises and videos without getting funny stares from my wife.
