I watched that tour when Clapton came to Bercy, France in 2004. Until Eric presented the band, I had no clue the organist was Billy Preston. Shame on me...
Eric is classic skool and Robert is that newer high energy skool. Players seem to get better all the time with the licks. Musicians just borrow the best of everything polish it, mix it up and make their sounds. Its all good you can draw from anything if your in the zone to pick up on right vibe.
Robert Randolph is quite incredible and Clapton should kiss his ass! Clapton is great but so is Randolph. Cannot acknowledge one while dismissing the other.
@ozzy4president91; you nailed it, the rest of these guys are regulars and Robert was sitting in as a featured player. @Glenneveaux: Oz wasn't trying to upstage you, he was just pointing out that this is EC's regular band. If you've ever seen Doyle Bramhall II before, you'd know that his body language is pretty normal for him....he's a journeyman guitarist with a really good gig...it's what he gets paid for. As for your "pearls" comment...get over yourself...it's an open forum.
Was that old Billy Preston on organ? RR is a superb musician - would love to hear RR and BP together without the rest of 'em - although t has to be said that Clapton is a great multi-tasker: he can, at one and the same time, tap his foot while playing guitar and it is rumoured he can even chew gum and walk at the same time. Awesome!
Luv ec, but sad that he "only" acknowledges" rr at the end, and not the rest of the band, including the great Billy Preston (RIP). Anyway, if I was as talented as ec, I would show respect and thanks to "everyone" for their incredible contribution. A band is not one person, but a collaboration of incredible talents that add the "spice" to the stew. peace:)
@glenneveaux At a show like that the rest of the band is a "core" band and plays most of the set with him. Robert was just a guest on that song, maybe a few more. Clapton would've credited the others at another time.
@ozzy4president91 thx 4 ur fucking pearls of wisdom. he dissed the band. look at the guitar player when e is "worshiping" r.j. at the end like he's j.c. (i'm an atheist so don't hurl no religious cunt-shit at me) the guitar player's bod language seems to say; what the fuck am i, window-dressing? same shit goes for thegenius that was b. preston. u can "weakly" cover for ur "white fuck," but ur just "frontin.' go "enlighten someone else.
You are an idiot. Musicians that spread their wealth are a god send. He lends credibility to his accompanists and legitimizes their talent. You really think god needs exposure?
hi not quite shure what you mean, but if you are calling me an idiot for giving my praises the i am sorry that you feel that way.
i think its a shame that people like you can only call other people idiots under the security of anonimity, you would probably shit youself if i where to confront you face to face.
like i said i am sorry you feel the need to insult me this way ,
Great. Saw RR and the Family in Telluride a few years ago they rocked. And for all the people who think it is so fashionable to try and piss in Claptons cheerios. I have followed Clapton since the 60's and he has never proclaimed himself to be anything other than a blues guitarist. He is more than well aware that he stood on the shoulders of giants. And now, Clapton is a giant. So for all you detractor and wannabees.... post a few hundred of your songs and concerts....I'll listen.
RDRCRXR: who are you trying to kid? Eric is one the greatest blues players to ever live. This style is precisely what he does time and time again. Robert does a hell of job; as does Billy Preston but this is truly Eric's song on this outing. No one owns the stage, and does so as graciously, as well as Eric Clapton.

YES!!! I first heard Robert Randolph on the Eric Clapton Crossroads DVD. Happy as hell to see him on stage w/ Mr. Clapton. He is way too talented not to get noticed by mainstream musucians :-)
looks like the sound guy was keeping robert's lap steel super low in the mix before and after his solo which is why he keeps looking to his left like "why the fu*k can't I hear myself"
@zerotozenith : He was actually looking to his right, not left. I believe RR was looking at Clapton (who was center stage) for cues. As a veteran of many jams, I can tell you that this is not unusual.
This type of playing is kind of out of Clapton's repitiore, but for Randolph this is the same stuff we play in church everyday, so it is easy for Robert.
man i saw this show front row in cayuhoga heights (30 miles from claptons american home town) and robert randolph shit in claptons cereal.....totally stole the show....1 song encore, each take solo, RR head and shoulders better and more technical, no way to argue against it....clapton put on a weak show, washed up if u ask me......still a legend though....long live 1960s....long live robert, one of best musicians walking planet today
Clapton sure knows how to pull off some Muddy Waters. He and Robert Randolph were amazing. With Billy Preston, this was history in the making. I wish they included BP a bit more.
So here's the deal...all the posers and pretenders that "think" they are bad ass guitar players?...heads up!...just listen to robt's smoking fills and solo...kids, just put the guitars back into your cases, you ain't got nothin' in a cuttin' contest with this cat!!!
wow, the dude in the audience mooing like a mad cow at the end is insane
he sounds like he's inside of a football hudle as opposed to a rock concert
i love my sports, but i also love my music...learn to seperate the 2
going ape shit like that is okay inside your living room but try to get yourself together a little better before going out in public and popping veins in your neck
because let's face it, that's a real douchebag noise your making and nobody wants to sit next to that
Loved his concert in Dublin last week. Was really loving this song up until it cut out again. Claptons awesome-ness was too much for these puny amps and so he cut out twice!
