I have a BEAUTIFUL 10 year old Doberman and she still acts like a puppy. She is so very healthy and absolutely gorgeous. She's so protective, but such a cuddly love dog at the same time. I honestly believe the Doberman is the best dog you will ever have. I love my Sammy. <3
My best friend was a Doberman. The most loving animal I've ever met. Not a mean bone in his body. I think it's terrible that people still think of them as being vicious. They are so not. They're velcro dogs and will stick with their person no matter what.
@MrRbn5 theyre bred with greyhounds so they do need a good amount of exercise. a sufficient walk every 3 hours is equivelant i guess. (brother of kakashi010203)

This dogs have serious issues second only to pitbulls. And both are inferior to German shepherd, very intelligent and will certainly beat those two breeds in a fight.

we had a dobey. he was soooo loyal and protective of our family. our dobey was old and died on the same day as my son's funeral. i like to think our dobey went on to protect my son. couldn't have had a more loyal dog.

dobermans r one of my favorite dogs. Someday i will get one. But the real misunderstood dog is the pitt bull. I think ppl should get hung or executed or just arrested for abusing pitt bulls or any kind of dog. Pitt bulls are not ment to be fighters they r ment to be family they are also not breeding dogs. I have owened dobies for 30 years. My first was a female in 1980, currently have a pair, red female uncut, black male cut. I have also known countless other dobies owned by friends and family, and I have yet to meet a dobie that was anywhere near viscious. Thats because I don't associate with assholes! if anyone is going to get a dog consider a mixed breed shelter dog. they dont have a fraction of the health issues as pedigree's do and they live alot longer and the shelters are full of them. if some one does get a pure bred remember to study the parents of the puppys and never trust the breeders.

I grew up with dobies since I was a little girl and I have only good things to say about them. All my dogs have been my guardian angels and my most loyal companions who showed nothing but love. Out last dob just passed away this year, a beautiful black and rust female 10 years old from cancer. She was in every way a perfect dog. We hope to now adopt a rescue dobby who is 8 months old and named Roxy. Can't wait to bring her home.

First of all,a well bred dobie should never,ever,ever be aggresive!protective of their homes and family,but never aggresive!Socialize and train them young.I suggest you do some more reaserch before you get a doberman.They are the most loyal,wonderful breed in the world,but make sure it's the breed for you

We have had our Dobe girl for 7 months now and she is madly in love with every member of the family, especially my 5 year old son. He climbs on her and teases her and she busts into his room at night to snuggle with him. She is amazing! Once you o doberman nothing else will do. I have had a couple dobies and indeed they are smart! I had a male dobie who would answer the phone if no one was home! He would put the receiver on the table, bark several times then hang it up! Now that is smart! Yes, they are protective of family and kids! Anyone saying they are vicious has never owned one.

I have had at least 14-all so sweet and smart-raised my kids with them,they would "ride" them when they would come home from the barn after seeing their horses.Of course mine had ample room to run(farm) but a nice dog room to sleep in as well..they like being pampered!

I owned Dobermans 30 yrs, they are the most intelligent of dogs I have ever been around. However, they are very territorial and the owners must spend the time to train them & always realize these dogs will protect their territory meaning; the family to whom they belong if a situation arises where the dog feels his family is being threatened.

i've had 2 dobermans. but my first one, "Duke", died at 9 weeks, he had parvo.
my second one i've had for 5 years now, Sony. a red dobie. he's amazing and definitately has a personality. he can be stubborn at times, but he is definitately very loving .
Someday when I have enough time to devote to a dog, I want to get a doberman puppy. But I know you have to work with them a lot because they have dominant personality types and you don't want to have to correct it later. But I agree - totally misunderstood breed, along with the pitts!
psych0tych0- my horse was so torn up by a it- and the dog also tried to tear me up while I was on the horse who was getting attacked- I have personally seen 2 other pitbull attacks- on innocent people walking in the public- not good!
However- I would love to have a doberman- they look like a very loyal, smart,clear headed breed.

Wow jet, that's sad about the pitt attack. They can certainly be vicious if trained to be mean. But if trained consistently/patiently, like any protecting breed, they are the most loving family dogs ever.
I don't see why any dog wouldn't get along with horses if it were raised around them since puppy-hood and trained not to react negatively.
You can always go with a mutt or mix, which tones down the stronger negatives. Mixing genes is also good for reducing risk of certain diseases.
Oh, PS about horses - you would also have to keep in mind that horses are easily spooked! You don't want your dog or a rider getting hurt so the whole process might take a lot of patience. I don't know for sure though. :\

@psych0tych0 - Actually they aren't "alot" of work. I used to be a big fan of Siberian Huskies, having raised 3 in the past, and when we got our first dobie 3 years ago I was very surprised at how much easier to train she was. We got our second doberman 2 weeks ago and it is just as easy as the first. Dobies are very very loving and will follow you everywhere! Just show them love and socialize them with strangers early and you will have the best dog in the world. Very simple dogs to train.
Yes, Siberians have minds only of their own - you can almost never stop them! And again, yes, Dobermans are very sweet, intelligent, and wonderful family pets.

@psych0tych0 Just the same with me. I'm waiting for the right time in my life when I'll be able to take a dobe puppy home and start working with him as much as this breed deserves it. One of my favorite breeds, but it's really the same with any dog, purebred or not: if it gets attention and the owner is responsible, the dog will be calm and well-behaved. I have had my fourth and largest akc dobe Brutus for 6 yrs now. 120 pounds. It never ceases to amaze me how smart and loving he is.
House trained at 6 wks. learned to sit, lay down, blah blah in no more than 5 minutes. what big softies they are to their families, death to strangers. as nice and cute as they are they don't forget their instinct to gaurd you.
usayash- I named him Brutus beacause of the missconception that they turn on you- "ey tu Brute'?"-Ceaser. Gunther was a runner up, 'Gunny'. 'Fritz' is a good one syllable name also. Brute just happened to be perfect for this giant, now 122 pounds w/ 2 acres of exercise room. Have fun and be sure to read up on the breed.

They are great, but you are so right about the chewing. My Doberman Lucy has cut out the chewing on stuff after I bought her an ample supply of bones and toys.
my dobey is real good guard dog he listens and would never hurt a fly unless I give him the command and he senses the situation. Real smart dogs I love my Smokey
Dobes are AWESOME!!!! We have 4 and they would NEVER hurt a fly. They are GREAT guard dogs so really the dog will never attack anythung at all unless he senses his owner is in trouble. My dog, Ana has never growled in at ME in her life, and loves everyone if I let her know it is safe. Dobermans are as loving and fun as any other dog. I think their the most smart dogs too. :D

Only if the master told the dog to attack when it wasnt nessicary. If the dog attacks to protect its master there is nothing wrong with that. My dog isnt mean at all, very friendly...Until you come into my house uninvited or grab one of my kids and she doesnt know you.

From a doberman owner to another what you experienced in the park was typical of any untrained dog the most important thing you should do is to make him understand you're alfa and after that you're dog will do anything you ask it to do my dog was so aggressive when i first got him but after a couple of weeks of training i can honestly say that am so glad i put my mind to it and trained him. trust me it'll all be worth it in the end just don't give up

I had a Doberman for 14 years. He was loyal, smart, gorgeous and would have died for me and me for him. No other dog in the world comes close to this breed. people would pick their kids up and cross the road from him but he was just a big baby... So so misunderstood. RIP Zues x

My brother has a Rott. She looked like a bear cub when she was a puppy and looks like a bear now, but she is the damn sweetest dog ever. She's a big lover and is really sad when she has to get scolded. There is no such thing as a bad dog breed, or even a bad dog.

Best damn dogs ever....I left my doby (hehe I named him King :P) buy a buddies house while I was out on deployment and some jackass tried to break in the house while my friends kids were at home. King took a shot to the side and still gave that moron a dedicated asswhiping....but he died from the wound....King R.I.P....

if anyone is going to get a dog consider a mixed breed shelter dog. they dont have a fraction of the health issues as pedigree's do and they live alot longer and the shelters are full of them. if some one does get a pure bred remember to study the parents of the puppys and never trust the breeders.

I grew up with dobies since I was a little girl and I have only good things to say about them. All my dogs have been my guardian angels and my most loyal companions who showed nothing but love. Out last dob just passed away this year, a beautiful black and rust female 10 years old from cancer. She was in every way a perfect dog. We hope to now adopt a rescue dobby who is 8 months old and named Roxy. Can't wait to bring her home.

First of all,a well bred dobie should never,ever,ever be aggresive!protective of their homes and family,but never aggresive!Socialize and train them young.I suggest you do some more reaserch before you get a doberman.They are the most loyal,wonderful breed in the world,but make sure it's the breed for you

We have had our Dobe girl for 7 months now and she is madly in love with every member of the family, especially my 5 year old son. He climbs on her and teases her and she busts into his room at night to snuggle with him. She is amazing! Once you o doberman nothing else will do. She is loyal and sweet, caring and gentle, she is everything we have ever wanted in a dog. xoxo to my dobie heidi

I have had a couple dobies and indeed they are smart! I had a male dobie who would answer the phone if no one was home! He would put the receiver on the table, bark several times then hang it up! Now that is smart! Yes, they are protective of family and kids! Anyone saying they are vicious has never owned one.

I have had at least 14-all so sweet and smart-raised my kids with them,they would "ride" them when they would come home from the barn after seeing their horses.Of course mine had ample room to run(farm) but a nice dog room to sleep in as well..they like being pampered!

I owned Dobermans 30 yrs, they are the most intelligent of dogs I have ever been around. However, they are very territorial and the owners must spend the time to train them & always realize these dogs will protect their territory meaning; the family to whom they belong if a situation arises where the dog feels his family is being threatened.

i've had 2 dobermans. but my first one, "Duke", died at 9 weeks, he had parvo.
my second one i've had for 5 years now, Sony. a red dobie. he's amazing and definitately has a personality. he can be stubborn at times, but he is definitately very loving .
i love him and miss him when i'm at work.

Someday when I have enough time to devote to a dog, I want to get a doberman puppy. But I know you have to work with them a lot because they have dominant personality types and you don't want to have to correct it later. But I agree - totally misunderstood breed, along with the pitts!

psych0tych0- my horse was so torn up by a it- and the dog also tried to tear me up while I was on the horse who was getting attacked- I have personally seen 2 other pitbull attacks- on innocent people walking in the public- not good!
However- I would love to have a doberman- they look like a very loyal, smart,clear headed breed.

Wow jet, that's sad about the pitt attack. They can certainly be vicious if trained to be mean. But if trained consistently/patiently, like any protecting breed, they are the most loving family dogs ever.
I don't see why any dog wouldn't get along with horses if it were raised around them since puppy-hood and trained not to react negatively.
You can always go with a mutt or mix, which tones down the stronger negatives. Mixing genes is also good for reducing risk of certain diseases.

Oh, PS about horses - you would also have to keep in mind that horses are easily spooked! You don't want your dog or a rider getting hurt so the whole process might take a lot of patience. I don't know for sure though. :\

@psych0tych0 - Actually they aren't "alot" of work. I used to be a big fan of Siberian Huskies, having raised 3 in the past, and when we got our first dobie 3 years ago I was very surprised at how much easier to train she was. We got our second doberman 2 weeks ago and it is just as easy as the first. Dobies are very very loving and will follow you everywhere! Just show them love and socialize them with strangers early and you will have the best dog in the world. Very simple dogs to train.

@psych0tych0 Just the same with me. I'm waiting for the right time in my life when I'll be able to take a dobe puppy home and start working with him as much as this breed deserves it. One of my favorite breeds, but it's really the same with any dog, purebred or not: if it gets attention and the owner is responsible, the dog will be calm and well-behaved. Wish you luck with your doberman-to-be ;)

I have had my fourth and largest akc dobe Brutus for 6 yrs now. 120 pounds. It never ceases to amaze me how smart and loving he is.
House trained at 6 wks. learned to sit, lay down, blah blah in no more than 5 minutes. what big softies they are to their families, death to strangers. as nice and cute as they are they don't forget their instinct to gaurd you.

usayash- I named him Brutus beacause of the missconception that they turn on you- "ey tu Brute'?"-Ceaser. Gunther was a runner up, 'Gunny'. 'Fritz' is a good one syllable name also. Brute just happened to be perfect for this giant, now 122 pounds w/ 2 acres of exercise room. Have fun and be sure to read up on the breed.

Dobes are AWESOME!!!! We have 4 and they would NEVER hurt a fly. They are GREAT guard dogs so really the dog will never attack anythung at all unless he senses his owner is in trouble. My dog, Ana has never growled in at ME in her life, and loves everyone if I let her know it is safe. Dobermans are as loving and fun as any other dog. I think their the most smart dogs too. :D

Only if the master told the dog to attack when it wasnt nessicary. If the dog attacks to protect its master there is nothing wrong with that. My dog isnt mean at all, very friendly...Until you come into my house uninvited or grab one of my kids and she doesnt know you.

From a doberman owner to another what you experienced in the park was typical of any untrained dog the most important thing you should do is to make him understand you're alfa and after that you're dog will do anything you ask it to do my dog was so aggressive when i first got him but after a couple of weeks of training i can honestly say that am so glad i put my mind to it and trained him. trust me it'll all be worth it in the end just don't give up
